Yoselyn Ortega was a nanny who stabbed two of the children she watched to death. She did so because she allegedly strongly disliked their mother and wanted to seek revenge on her in the worst way she could. Ortega claims that she should not be responsible for her actions because she was suffering a psychosis which blurred her sense of reality. However, there were signs which showed that Ortega may have premeditated the murder and intended to carry out harm. In order for Ortega to be free from the consequences of the murder, there needs to be substantial evidence which proves that Ortega was suffering from a mental illness at the time in which she could not comprehend what she was doing or what was going on around her. lost their lives because someone could not control themselves. Identify the ethical issue(s) The ethical issues presented in this case are over justice, deception, and accountability.
The issue of justice is presented because the point of this story is to raise awareness about the case and for justice to be rightfully distributed to the proper people. Ortega should receive the just treatment for her action that she deserves and Mrs. Krim should receive the justice that she deserves for employing a woman who ultimately killed her loved ones. Deception is presented as the prosecutor claims that Ortega intended to carry out harm and deceive Mrs. Krim in the worst way possible. This article is presenting the issue over discovering whether or not Ortega really carried out the murder with harm or if she really was suffering a mental illness at the time of the event. The issue of accountability is raised as the jurors are trying to give the proper consequences and justice to the deserving …show more content…
parties. Present the key ethical values at stake The key ethical values at stake are fairness, respect and concern for others, law abiding, and accountability. Identify the primary stakeholders The primary stakeholders are Ortega, Mrs. Krim, and the jurors. If Ortega is declared guilty she will suffer innumerable consequences and most likely be imprisoned for the remainder of her life. If she were to be released from her sentence early, her reputation would most likely be completely diminished and would probably never receive another job again. If Ortega were to be free from consequences, she would still most likely would not receive another job after the news of the allegations against her would be made public. If Ortega is imprisoned, Mrs. Krim will most likely feel like she received a slight justice, even though nothing is quite comparable to compensate for the loss of one’s children. If Ortega is free from consequence, Mrs. Krim will most likely be enraged and feel like she was not given justice under the circumstances. Being let free would also perpetuate the idea into society that people can kill others without penalty if they claim that they had been suffering from a mental illness. Either way the jurors would most likely be judged my the public for not only taking so long to make a decision on this case, but because when it comes to sitjuations about children, most people would do anything to favor their part. State whether you agree with the decision and why I do not think that Ortega should have been allowed to be a nanny because she had been mentally ill.
I think that people with a restricted sense of rational should not be permitted to take care of young children who also lack rationale. With this being said, all babysitters and nannies should have to undergo some kind of background check to ensure that they are trustworthy, mentally stable, and reliable individuals. I think that Ortega should be punished for her action. I am actually upset that it has taken over three years to get to the bottom of this case. I do not believe that Ortega had been suffering from such an extreme mental illness. I think she is using it as an excuse to be free of consequence. I think it most likely would have been impossible for her to last so long without anyone observing the discrepancies with her mentality. The fact that she left things to be inherited and important papers for her family is an outright sign that she premeditated the murder. If she is able to be free from this case and not take responsibility I will be extremely upset. It does not seem logical that someone struggling from so many mental illnesses could last so long without being noticed or getting help. I think that justice should be given to the innocent mother who is grieving and the two innocent children who lost their lives because a person could not control their emotions. In my opinion, if someone kills another person, they should be punished no matter what the
circumstances are even if they did not intend to carry out harm. I do not think a mental illness is excusable for something as serious as the killing of another human being.

A horrific murder happened in tiny Skidmore on December of 2004. Lisa Montgomery and Bobbi Jo Stinnett met and found out that they had much in common and became good friends (Nunes 85-86). Surprisingly, Bobbi and Lisa met in an internet chat room. Bobbi was into puppy breeding and she occasionally served as a judge. Lisa lived in Kansas where her close friends were shocked about what she was talking about. Of course, Lisa shrugged it off and she sent an email to Bobbi saying that she wanted to see the puppies (Nunes 85-86). When Lisa met Bobbi Jo she had a fake name which was Darlene Fisher because she didn’t want Bobbi to know her real identity. When Lisa sent Bobbi the email she had a criminal intent on her mind. She was planning to choke Bobbi into unconsciousness and then cut open her womb and steal Bobbi’s unborn baby. When Lisa arrived at the house she threw a rope around Bobbi’s neck and choked her until she was unconscious. That is when Lisa took a knife and started to cut open Bobbi’s stomach. Lisa had to cut through skin, fat, and muscle to get to Bobbi’s uterus. Bobbi’s baby was in eight-month gestation; Lisa cut and tied the baby’s cord. Lisa stole the baby and fled to her house in Kansas. Unfort...
Thesis Statement: The Sacco and Vanzetti case was an unfair trial leading to the two men to be executed.
In conclusion, finding out the truth, the facts, and the goal of justice should be the main purpose of any civil case. Sadly, the judicial process gets in the way. The legal system becomes unjust and in some cases, justice is never served. Seeing the story unfold and reading about the struggle between wealth and power and justice is exciting, yet saddening. The book matters and should be read by all, from people who are studying the legal system to people who are not. It is an emotional and engaging book. It can’t be forgotten. One man can make the biggest difference and finding the truth is much more fulfilling than any riches.

On July 15th, 2008, Caylee Anthony was reported missing by her grandmother Cindy Anthony. Cindy Anthony in the report stated that she hadn’t seen her grand-daughter Caylee for a month and that she and her husband were suspicious because their daughter Casey’s car reeked of decay, as if a dead body had been stored inside the vehicle for days. Caylee and her mother resided with Casey Anthony’s parents. However, Cindy Anthony claimed that Casey had given different explanations about Caylee's whereabouts before telling Cindy that she hadn’t seen her own daughter for several weeks. When questioned by authorities, Casey told the detectives several lies: stating the child had been kidnapped by her nanny on June 9, and that Casey had been trying to contact the nanny to find her daughter. According to the National Children's Alliance more than 700,000 children are neglected and abused. Maria Santiago is one of the few children who was neglected and abused at a young age. Thus allowing the cycle to continue towards her own child. Her father had abandoned her at the age of 10, while her mother often physically and emotionally mistreated her from the day she was born. As she grew up, Maria strayed from the right path and went downhill from then on. Later on in her life, she had a child named Allison, who eventually ended up dying at the age of 6 months. I believe that Maria Santiago is guilty of Aggravated Manslaughter of a child.

A question arises whether they felt “coerced” to use the court system because the judicial system was the only avenue, other than violence, in trying to right perceived wrongs. A careful examination of “Scandal at the Church: José de Alfaro Accuses Doña Theresa Bravo and Others of Insulting and Beating His Castiza Wife, Josefa Cadena (Mexico, 1782),” illustrates the surprising role of an elite court system as an equalizer within a socially-stratified society. More specifically to this case, the court acted as a vehicle to restore honour in an attack from an upper class society member to someone in a class lower. The chapter chronicled a criminal proceeding initiated by the plaintiff because of the injury and insult inflicted upon his wife by the defendant and her family. The physical injuries inflicted on José de
The other kids should be given half a year in prison because they played a role in Sylvia’s death, and they should learn that this kind of behavior is wrong. Murder is the crime of unlawfully killing a person. While I might not agree with the charges brought against the accused killers, I do know that this was murder. Sylvia Likens was killed, but she did not die in vain. She lives on as a reminder of the abuse that goes on in our country today.
In closing, the criminal trial process has been able to reflect the morals and ethics of society to a great extent, despite the few limitations, which hinder its effectiveness. The moral and ethical standards have been effectively been reflected to a great extent in the areas of the adversary system, the system of appeals, legal aid and the jury
