Xbox Live is an online multiplayer service provided by Microsoft that allows gamers to play with each other through the internet through their gaming consoles. Xbox Live first released in November 2002. When Xbox Live first launched it was exclusively for online gaming. Throughout the years, however, it has grown from an online gaming service to doubling as an entertainment service that provides many different applications to watch and play. Today, with Xbox Live a subscriber can watch Netflix, YouTube, Hulu, and Crunchyroll just to name a few. A person who owns an Xbox One like myself can use Skype and video chat with people through the service.
Users that own an Xbox Live subscription can play through a number of platforms, including an Xbox, of course. The consoles available to use Xbox Live include: Xbox 360, Xbox One, Windows 8, and Windows Phone. I use my Xbox 360 and Xbox One to play video games through my Xbox Live membership. One month membership is $9.99, three months is $24.99, and one year is $59.99 according to the Xbox.com website and my own experience purchasing membership. This is a downside for Microsoft’s Xbox because their rival, PSN (PlayStation Network) which is a similar gaming service provided by Sony doesn’t require a fee for their features on the PlayStation 3 and 4. Simply because Xbox requires money for their service, many gamers steer away to their rival because it’s free and everyone likes free things. I would, too, but the Xbox Live has an exclusive game that only runs on the Xbox and it’s Halo. Because of my love for this game i’m willing to pay the membership fee to play the Halo game series on Xbox 360 and Xbox
