Doing crossword puzzles and reading helps seniors with their mentality. There are ways for seniors can be socially active and they are Bingo and going to church. Seniors have to either retire fully or work park time and it depends on how their finances are. There are reasons why senior retire at the age of 65. They have to work part time because their benefits do not cover all of their expenses. People have an advantage and disadvantage of deciding to either retire or work part time or just
The amount of people working into their retirement age is growing. The Bureau of Labor Statistics says that by 2014, 41 percent of adults aged 55 and older will still be in the work-place. The Metlife foundation and Civic Ventures found that 66 percent of adults age 50 to 59 plan to keep working during their retirement years and 15 percent of those say they will never retire (Sander 643).
There are many environmental influences as well as human behaviors that contribute to one’s expected life span. Health and lifestyle are two major factors that play a role in determining what life would be like during the senior years of life. There are many advantages to having a strong social support network that consists of caregivers paid and unpaid. Seniors with this tend to live longer, remain independent and stay active in their later years. Citizens in today’s society are living longer due to technology, medications and an overall healthier lifestyle. Many reach the age of 100 but the maximum human life span is 120 years old. One’s personal data, career choices, environmental influences and amount of active interactions will determine how those of the older population will experience the aging process.
Becoming older is a natural progression of life. Late adulthood is the period of life in every individual that follows the period of his or her life after he/she turns 60 years of age. Being active, eating healthy foods and handling stress have been shown to greatly improve the quality of life for senior citizens.
The older person that I interviewed was my great-grandfather, Kay Wilson. He is eighty-three years old and is currently retired, living at home. Wilson was born on February 27, 1934 and raised in Sylacauga, AL by his mother. His father was not active in his life, but his grandparents were his main caretakers growing up.
Another great benefit of living for many years is all the experience that came with them. When someone has past their fifties or sixties they no longer have a life full of drama like most of
(Bendick, Brown & Wall, 1999). A new awareness of older workers has emerged as retiring
The thought of aging is not void of hesitance given it produces questions deprived of answers in the absence of a crystal ball. Subsequently, aging parallels the unknown; thus, faced with uncertainty adopting a positive perspective remains elusive. Although, it’s preferred to view aging optimistically one cannot escape its negative connotations. Will I be an active agent or isolated burden remains a noteworthy unknown that enervates my optimism. Another consideration leading to my vacillating view on aging is, not knowing to what degree personal competencies and capacities will carry forward, thereby affording autonomy in the elder years. However, as research suggest, the aging process transforms healthy adults into frail ones; thus, dashing one’s hope that such traits will endure (Friis, 2010). Incidentally, at age 48, these lingering questions will soon be answered. In the interim, there is an inherent responsibility to prepare physically, psychologically, and financially for entry into the aging population. Ideally, the goal is to
These people may not be prepared to retire at the given age. It is possible that people who are forced to retire may actually choose to continue to work (“Should People Be Forced to Retire at a Certain Age?”). The United States should not force teachers to retire to retire at a certain age, because the students would not really understand what the teacher was teaching at the time she left when she turned at certain age. When one considers teachers and their well being then it is clear that teachers should be forced to retire at a certain age because they could survive on their retirement funds so people should let teachers work until they feel the need to
When elderly people move into the last of life’s eight stages of psychosocial development, they enter the ego-integrity-versus-despair stage. This process is defined by looking back over someone’s life, evaluating it, then accepting it. People who become successful in this stage feel a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment. Erikson refers to this acceptance as integrity. This differs from generativity because one is accepting the end of their life, instead of accepting where their life will start in a sense of career and self. However, if one is to look back on their life with dissatisfaction, they may feel they have been cheated or missed opportunities. Such individuals will mostly be depressed or angry about the way life turned out and
As early as age of 62 or as late of age 70 years old a person is entitle of retirement in the United States according to the social security service .This benefit is an saving
Prior to reading about “Aging in America”, I was aware of economic, long-term care, and health care concerns with “baby boomers” retiring over the next few decades. However, some of the actual statistics Squiers found were surprising, for instance there are approximately “75.9 million” adults in the baby boom generation (2005, p. 193) and the U.S. has the third largest population of seniors. Also informative was that the “baby boomers” will lose both Medicare and Social Security benefits due to there being “nearly twice as many boomers as there are current Medicare recipients” (Squiers, 2005, p. 193) and the funds will not be enough to cover the number of people aged 65 and older coming into retirement.
America is a country where everyone is free to live however they like, but it is possible for some people to live a happy life, if no one is around to take care of them. Nearly three hundred million people reside in the America, and out of those three hundred million populations, senior citizens make a 12 percent of the entire population. A senior citizen is commonly known as a person who is over the age of 65 and living on retirement, or known as social security benefits (Census Bureau). Ever since Franklin D. Roosevelt implied the act of Social Security in 1935, seniors are regularly provided a financial help, but seniors, along with financial help, seeks also accompany of someone who can look after them. Because of constantly growing needs of senior citizens, government as well as many non-profit organizations is working on helping seniors. Therefore I decided to research on this particular issue in my community, and I found that 64.5% of seniors are living alone in metropolitan area of Atlanta.
A term used for elders is aged, which is having reached a specific age (McKenzie & Pinger, 2015, p.273). Another term used by elders is aging, which means getting older. Some elders live in assisted-living facilities, which provide an alternative to long-term care in a nursing home. They also can live in retirement communities, which are areas that have been specifically developed for those in their retirement years (McKenzie & Pinger, 2015, p.288). For elders, health care is a major issue for them.
The conflict begun from some retires are complaining and show their not agreeableness with new retirement age since they not really interested in continuing their career due to cost of living in their place. Some of retires working at urban or rural areas but been paid in same wages. Even some of them are not agreeing but them hardly to ...
The retirement stage in the family life cycle experiences a lot of changes. At this stage the family begins to grown as a result of their children getting married and having families of their own. You are still exploring and cruising the seas and having adventures as a retired couple. Some couple experience illness, financial setbacks, and even death. The chances of having illness, chronic or mental increases with age. However, normal aging will bring about its changes of wrinkles, grey hair, and aches and pains, and maybe loss of bone density and a few grandchildren.
