I had applied for a job at Catholic Guardian society; in 2001 I did get the job. It was working with young girls in a group home, place there by the court. A group home is a place that children are sent to, once in foster care. A child can be in a group homes for many reasons; such as running away from home, not going to school and getting being arrested. I work every shift that was allowed, sometime doing doubles. When I started the job, I learn my way around fast. My partner was Michelle S.; she was great she began working there three years before me. My thoughts, was if I could help young mothers to become better mothers to their children. I resigned from CGA, in 2008 and opened the doors to my daycare in 2009.I was a business owner, opened my 1st home based daycare, and that was my moment. It quickly became apparent to me that this was not just babysitting someone’s child/children; this was in fact a business with laws and regulations. I read and researched ever and anything I could find on daycare and how to run a business. Myself along with my little staff and the parents I had a team; and with their help my business became a company. While running a daycare and going through my educational journey, I have learn how blind I was to all the other ideas, theories and practices of other people. How accepting opinions and criticism would help me grow as a person and educator. My Company is made up of two separate businesses. But both have the same goal to teach children, and adults about child care. The daycare has been such a powerful influence in my life; it has given me a great since of accomplishment, and satisfaction. The daycare is designed for staff to supervise all of the children. All tables and chairs are different shapes and sizes to suit of the child. When you enter the daycare there is a big open space filled with bright colors, colorful posters wall decorations and a chalk board, our chalk board is made of a writeable black paint.
