Everyone loves a bargain; but when are the risks of going cheap too high? Focusing too much attention on price may lead to disastrous effects. There isn’t one step of the job that can effectively be skimped on. Preparing and installing granite countertops is a task only the most skilled practitioners can do right. In addition, good quality granite slabs are seldom cheap. You may opt to get thinner slabs or choose a style that isn’t as desirable. However when you consider that installation costs will be the same no matter how good the granite is, it doesn’t make much sense to compromise on materials.
The biggest disasters arise from small or unproven companies that employ shoddy craftsmen to do the installation. Woodworkers can make a few bad cuts here and there without causing a catastrophe. Fitters of granite countertops on the other hand need to make every cut close to perfect. While a less skilled worker can get the job done, there is a noticeable difference in craftsmanship when compared to the work of a more experienced, quality installer.

As long as it is the same model, you are getting the same thing so why pay more? Commissioned work is a different animal altogether. Pushing a reputable installer to go cheaper can comprise the quality of the final product. This is because the installer will try to get a job that pays less done in less time. To make matters worse the installer may have to direct his or her attention towards other projects on the day your project begins. An overworked craftsman of course leads to less than ideal results. Bigger companies may not go as low in terms of price to keep quality standards decent. Independents will usually be more flexible but at a greater risk. So as you can see, the price quoted by the flooring contractor hinges on several variable cost factors. It can be a difficult task as the contractor begins his business. If he underestimates the time required to install the tile or to do any of the preparation work, he may end up losing money. If he fails to order enough materials, then he will have to cover the cost of any additional materials needed, reducing his profit. If mistakes are made, then the cost of fixing them will reduce the amount of profit he earns. It is imperative that a flooring contractor understands how to properly estimate the amount of material and the number of labor hours needed for each job. Failure to do these tasks correctly, will cause his business to go under very quickly.

Many families moved from rural areas to new, industrialized cities. After a while things weren’t looking as “promising” as they did before (Boone 23). In order to maintain, families had to put almost all of their family members to work. This led to a rise in the number of child labor. Children were “mistreated, underpayed and overworked” (Kincaid 30). Using children to do all of the hard work, the mining companies believed, was the most sensible and efficient way to get the job done. Because the children were a lot smaller, it was easy for them to “maneuver through tight spaces” and on top of that the children demanded little or no pay at all(Boone 43 ). These wages were enough to persuade companies to use children for all sorts of dangerous jobs such as coal mining and chimney sweeps. Children were called to do many other “horrible” jobs, jobs that adults in this era could not bear, just so long as the bills were paid (Robson 18). The working conditions and treatment of young children during this era was horrible and a lot was done to put an end to it.

Child labor laws need to be enforced more because governments are paying little attention to those who abuse the laws; therefore children are being abused physically by long hours and economically by low pay. Farmers and many businesses in third world countries are accused of taking major advantage of these laws. This topic is highlighted as one of the highest controversial issues in labor politics. Child labor is a major issue in countries such as Africa, Argentina, and Bangladesh. For example, in Africa, some children do the work of a grown man for as little as one dollar a day. On the other hand, in the United States some studies show that child labor is a bigger problem in the U.S than some third world countries (Barta and others). Many farmers are facing a huge problem; the government is attempting to keep children from working long hours on their family farms.
Child labor is the employment of children, but not all work done by children should be classified as child labor that should be eliminated. Children’s participation in work that does not affect their health and personal development or interfere with their schooling is generally regarded as being something positive. The term “child labor” is defined as work that deprives children of their childhood, interferes with their ability to attend regular school, and that is mentally, physically, socially or morally dangerous and harmful.
Think about the cotton in your shirt, the sugar in your coffee, and the shoes on your feet, all of which could be products of child labor. Child labor is a practice that deprives children of their childhood, their potential, and their dignity and includes over 200 million children worldwide who are involved in the production of goods for companies and industries willing to exploit these kids for profit. Although most countries have laws prohibiting child labor, a lack of funding and manpower means that these laws are rarely enforced on a large scale. However, even for a first-world country like the United States, that has a large number of state and federal law enforcement officers, child labor is still a problem because priority is given to crimes that are more violent or heinous. Child labor must be made a priority issue because it is a global plague whose victims are physically and psychologically scarred, lack a proper education, are impoverished, and whose children are doomed to the same fate if nothing changes.

Most have a daily routine, you wake up, do what you need to do to get ready, then it is off to work. Of course you would rather sleep in or maybe your boss is not the nicest person, but for the majority of people that is the worst of their work problems. It is no secret that work is not always the easiest and most enjoyable thing to do, however if you consider how it use to be with fourteen hour work days, low pay, unsafe conditions and the fact that there was an excessive amount of child labor, it makes the present sound like heaven. After a long and hard commitment of forming unions, fighting for laws, going on strikes, and being restless the workers finally received the wages, hours, and safety regulations they deserved on top of ending child labor.

What do people think about their life purpose? Most of us think about life that is studying hard in order to get a wonderful job, working hard, and getting married. They have dreamed of one day having an eternal vacation for themselves and not having to work anymore. The traditional people around the world consider that overworking is an essential condition for the early stage of their life. Especially in most of Asian countries, the average workweek is 48 hours. According to the fulltime employment, people work 35 to 40 hours per week to be defined as full-time. If more than that number, that should be considered overworking. Overworking is an important issue because that can lead to some serious consequences. Thus, we should consider work-life balance more seriously.
Patience is probably the most important characteristic a woodworker can have. The process in which woodworking goes through is very time consuming. “There are five main steps in woodworking: (1) planning and design, (2) cutting, (3) drilling, (4) fastening, and (5) sanding and finishing.” (Jared, Pg. 1). Planning and design is the most crucial part of the process. During this step a woodworker must calculate precise measurements and create a layout of the final product. Cutting is done by using a variety of different types of tools to make very defined details or simple shapes aimed towards the expected outcome. Next in the process is drilling. Drilling allows a woodworker to connect each section of wood together using screws, metal plates, and hinges (Jared, Pg. 2). This can be done using either hand or power tools. After being drilled together, sections of wood are fastened to one another with screws, nails, or an adhesive. This is the second to last step in the process. Lastly, a woodworker sands the wood and then adds a finish. Sanding is done to remove tool marks and to make the wood surfaces smooth (Jared, Pg. 3). A finish is added to preserve the wood and make the natural wood grain stand out. “If you want a silky, smooth feel to your finish, you must sand between coats no matter what kind of poly you use” (Great Book Of Woodworking Tips, Pg. 71). This goes for both hard and soft wood products. It also adds onto the final product’s look by giving it a more professionally done look. In an interview with Mr. Palacios, he said, “the most challenging thing in woodworking is making a final product look professionally done. The least challenging is to find all of the right materials to perform the job.” In order to achieve the professionally done look some people add wood stain, a dye, to change the color of the wood without loosing the feel of the surface. Carpentry is an enormous part of our world and has had an effect on just about everyone. Without carpenters we wouldn't have our schools, roads, hospitals, hotels, etc. I believe that carpenters do not get as much credit as they should for all they do for our world.
