I’m been driving for over 10 years and every since I took my first cruise around the neighborhood, I’ve been aware of the amount of angry, dangerous and aggressive drivers that are plaguing our streets and city. They make me nervous every time I have to get out and drive and I end up dreading going anywhere. We shouldn’t be worried about getting rear ended or t-boned everytime we leave our driveway. We need to band together and figure out an ultimate solution for this, so people don’t have to be anxious just driving to the grocery store. Just this week I was driving to work, going west down 34th during rush hour traffic and a lifted truck came up from behind me honking it’s horn as it passed multiple people while driving in the turning lane. I see similar situations everyday on my drive to work and it just seems to be getting worse. Everyone I talk to seems to have a weekly “crazy driver” story and there are endless news stories about hit and runs, wrecks and road rage incidents. Aggressive drivers are creating unsafe situations everyday, unaware that they are hurling tens of miles an hour in two …show more content…
I started off driving a little quicker to make it to work and then transformed to weaving in and out of traffic while driving. I was extremely impatient and would lay on the horn whenever someone wasn’t going quick enough. When I drove with coworkers they hated driving would be and would avoid it. I eventually stopped driving recklessly after getting rear ended by another reckless driver that wasn’t paying attention and trying to get to work himself. It helped me realize that the same would eventually happen to me if I kept driving in the same fashion. I began driving the speed limit, making sure I had plenty of time to get to my destination on time. Making sure I didn’t focus on the other drivers also helped prevent me from getting angry at their
Dangers on roadways is an issue that describes the discrepancy between perception and reality of road rage. The media, for some odd reason, tends to make road rage a huge controversial issue. As seen on talk shows from Oprah Winfrey to CNN, they reveal to people that road rage could happen at any time and to always be looking over your shoulder. These talk shows and news programs also put fear into our minds by explaining that most roadragers often use guns to kill or injure their victims. Glassner contradicts the media's speculations by stating that out of approximately 250,000 people killed on roadways between 1990-1997, AAA attributed that one in one thousand was an act of road rage (pg.5).
At the next intersection I get stuck at a light that just turns green while a kid, I can see the “Class of 2010” writing all around the car, has their head down tapping a text message out and looks up after I chirp my horn. By this time i've developed a touch of impatience that's working its way to road rage and its getting fueled by my commute that brings me across the Glen Jackson Bridge. Numerous times I see the “triangle”, which is the “ i'm on the phone multi-tasking and I forgot how to drive” pose. I finally make it into work at my last wits. I start to walk in when I almost get mowed down by a fellow coworker. This is the point where I call in to work cause I need a mental health day. Everyone described is the sum product of the problem of driving while using a cell phone.
On top of that, these type of people use their cellphone, eat, don't wear seat belts, or drunk while they are driving. But these people don't realize that doing those minor thing can cause them severe pains or even deaths. There are millions of peoples are getting killed and injured every year because of car accident. I think if everyone use the traffic rules, all
Road rage is the act of aggressive driving or behavior that could lead to crucial physical or mental injury’s. In the Green Issue, Brendan Purves describes it as “an individual who commits a combination of moving traffic offenses so as to endanger other persons or property.” (“What Causes Road Rage”, Purves). Many innocent lives are taken because of incidents caused by road rage. Most of these incidents happen in result of misunderstandings or impatience with unaware drivers. Not all of these road rage incidents result in an accident but mostly all of them involve aggressive acts. Some even involve armed weapons, vulgar language, and violent acts. Anyone can experience road rage but its important to stay calm and safe while driving to save
In today’s society, driving is one of the greatest privileges a person can have. This privilege has revolutionized the world with a faster form of transportation. Nevertheless, some people in the world are going to find a way to abuse this privilege. Some drivers transfer their personality into the way they drive. Most drivers can be categorized according to their driving personality: road-rage drivers, overly-cautious drivers, and lawful drivers.
They always relate driving with speed and do not like cautious and slow driving. On reaching the age of twenty one they gain maturity and they start taking driving and other measures of life more
It takes only three seconds to change the course of a life. I take a pledge and so should others to keep their eyes on the road always. Online there are pledges that make each driver aware of reckless driving. These tactics are spoke about before receiving permission to drive. Theses websites discuss the safety measures such as buckling up, checking mirrors, and counting the distance between cars.
Do not eat while you are driving. Not only is it bad for your health, but it can also take you attention off of the roadways. Put down your cell phone. That call or text may seem important now, but is it really more important than your life? Also, do not drive if you feel tired.
In today's world, the number of accidents are increasing on a daily basis and this is not because the roads and people breaking traffic signals, but because drivers today drive rashly and do not take care of their own lives and other's lives on the
There is a lot of uncivilized behavior in our life, such as mocking another 's race or gender, discrimination in an employment situation, and aggressive driving that endangers others. These inappropriate actions can even threaten the other 's lives. If there is full of abusive behaviors in people’ life, what will the society be? There are lots of rubbish everywhere; racial discrimination will make some people have a nervous breakdown. Some stupid actions can even threaten the other 's lives. If no one wants to obey the traffic rules, the traffic accident will kill thousands of people’s lives. More than 76,000 Americans have been killed walking or crossing the street in the past 15 years(Larry Copeland, News, Pg. 05a). Thus, if the driver has the common actions when they are
I have come to the realization, that slowing down in multiple aspects of life will get me where I am wanting to go in a more respectable and safe manner. The first thing that changed after coming to this realization of slowing down, are my driving habits. Driving fast, passing people in anger, and honking out of frustration are just a few of the bad habits that have plagued my daily driving. For instance, one day I was running very late and found myself tailgating a car that was in front of me going the speed limit. I finally got the chance to pass the car after many failed opportunities and started driving
Staring at the ocean of brake lights spread out before you, you listen as the morning DJ’s voice drones on about the weather. Fifteen minutes have passed, you realize, since you first stopped at the back of this seemingly never-ending line of cars. The sign to your right warns of a lane closed due to construction in 2,500 feet. You let out a heavy sigh as you wonder how much more time this next half of a mile is going to add to your morning commute. Such is life in our modern day of mass transportation, you think to yourself, but surely there is some way to alleviate this headache. While things like construction may be unavoidable, the way that you and other drivers behave can go a long way towards solving the problem. Beware, however, for although you may think your choices to be the best for the situation at hand, chances are that you, too, have often been part of the problem.
“The one thing that unites all human beings, regardless of age, gender, religion, economic status, or ethnic background, is that, deep down inside, we all believe that we are above-average drivers” -Dave Barry, comedian. The number of accidents over the last ten years have drastically increased, drivers are paying less attention to the road itself. Many individuals behind the wheel of a car believe that their driving does not affect the road conditions, however it always will. The driving habits of today are catastrophic due to the reasoning that the driving will affect other lives through reckless or distracted driving, and disobeying traffic laws.
They should always be keen and open to speed limit changes if observed and then drive accordingly. Avoiding the fast lane, freeways and rush hour can avoid accidents too. People should always put in mind how badly they want to avoid an accident. They should always remember that someone is waiting for them at home for their safe return.
Suddenly, people were asking me for rides, which I was always happy to provide - I was always looking for an excuse to drive. Even so, I took driving seriously, especially in the first few months after turning sixteen. It had always freaked me out riding with someone got distracted while driving, whether they were checking their phone, getting lost in a conversation, or even putting on makeup while behind the wheel. I promised
