Why wouldn’t police officers wear body cameras? Body cameras have been around for two decades, yet some do not wear them. Body cameras have many more advantages than disadvantages. The purpose of these cameras is to capture what goes down when the police are involved, so no one can lie or change what happened. If police officers wear body cameras, this will allow fewer reports of misconduct, will also help in domestic violence cases, and can mend relationships with the public. To start, when officers use body cameras, there are fewer reports of police misconduct. K., 2015, p.4). Having video proof will allow the case to advance and many perpetrators will admit to what they have done. Domestic violence is serious and there should be more accountability for the officer and the abuser. If officers do not have cameras, it can get out of control, but to keep the victim safe, the officer should have a body camera in case the abuser decides to get aggressive towards them or the officer. Videos from these types of cases can be used for training and evaluating officers. Using these videos for training purposes can teach future officers the correct way to manage a situation and the wrong way to manage it. If officers wear a body camera, it can give people a reason to trust what they are doing and that the officer will follow through with the procedures after stopping them or while overseeing a situation. Due to incidents in the past four years, many people, dislike officers and do not trust, respect, or even hate them. An officer's job is to take care of communities and make sure everyone is following the law, but if people do not accept their help or do not trust them, this can cause a cycle of continuous distancing between them.
