Why We Should Have Recess In School

Did you know 25% of teens ages 13-18 at some point have a diagnosable anxiety disorder in schools without a break in the day? Recess is a place of free action where kids can let out all excess energy and socialize with others. It is a very fun time during the school day because it is a break from learning and gives you time to relax and have time to do things other than academics. There are many reasons teens should take a break during the school day to let out all of their energy not used in class and to help improve mental health. More evidence from “Recess for Everyone” says, “ ‘Students have to recess at least 30 minutes twice a week. It really was special, it really was a game changer. Recess days brought so much joy” (Kaden Oliver). This can show how even teachers and not students could tell everyone was happier with even recess twice a week as a break. This proves how teens need recess to release energy, have fun, and socialize. Everyone could notice the difference and how happy everyone was to get 30 minutes twice a week. Secondly, not having recess is also bad for the mental health of teens because without recess you have to do school for longer so you have to do more information cramming. Due to stress issues teens have done ridiculous things, this shows in “Do Teens Need Recess?”, where page one states, “I’ve witnessed so much anxiety related to these hectic schedules: students pulling the fire alarm during midyear exams, kids sobbing in class, and even a girl fainting during a test.” (Scholastic) This can show how with no break in a school day and built up stress from other things, students do outrageous, even illegal
