In the world, there are seemingly endless fiction books and stories and writings to read, new content coming out constantly. However, no matter how much new content comes out, there are many people who read these tales and can’t find a single character they can relate to; a character that looks and thinks like them. This is precisely why the diversity that is seen in the world needs to be seen in the books we read. Authors need to start writing with diverse characters, making it so everybody can have a favorite character that they can truly relate to. To begin, there are approximately 7.4 billion people on earth. With 7.4 billion people, there’s bound to be an abundance of diversity, as there are so many things that can make one person different from another, whether it be race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disabilities, disorders, or any other characteristic that can differentiate …show more content…
A new organization called ‘We Need Diverse Books’ that is spreading awareness of the little diversity in books. There are endless people who support this movement and are posting pictures online using the hashtag ‘#WeNeedDiverseBooks’. Some examples of these hashtags are “We Need Diverse Books because good stories come in all colors,” “We need diverse books so my child can learn minorities are more than stereotypes,” “We need diverse books because there’s life after coming out,” “We need diverse books to help bring more empathy and compassion into the world,” and “We need diverse books because my shelves are too white, but my world isn't.” Popular author John Green has even taken notice of this, posting “We need diverse books because they help us imagine others, and ourselves, more complexly.” In addition to these, there are endless more posts, and if that many people feel it’s important to create diversity, then it is obviously
In the article How Banning Books Marginalizes Children, the author, Paul Ringel, states that approximately fifty-two percent of the books banned in the last ten years illustrate “diverse content”, such as race, religion, gender identity, etc. Ringel believes that attitudes about which books are “appropriate” for kids to read have too often suppressed stories about different cultures and life experiences. He basis his argument around the pretext that when libraries stop the banning it will allow kids to learn how to navigate imaginary worlds filled with differences and apply those lessons to their own lives.
Aspects of diversity are in concordance with age, cognitive means, cultural factors, disability and other significant determinants. In partners develop at least two definitions of diversity as it is any mixture of items characterized by differences and similarities. Another one is its reference to differences between individuals or any attributes that may lead to the perceptions that another person is different from self. Diversity is truly confounding, as numerous different ethnic and cultural organizations have afforded to the social, monetary aspects and cultural standards of our society. It’s just a matter of considering the brighter side of this matter. It is due to these contributions of the diverse society, people will be even more connected in our general objectives, and united
The diversity among people is widely spread throughout the world. One can be grouped into various ways. People come in all shapes, sizes, colors, personalities, genders, and interests. LIfe would be hectic for someone to try and categorize people in every way possible. At least people are not the only thing impossible to fully separate. Animals and plants can also be placed into different categories. People can be classified into three categories: Leaders, Followers, and Independents.
Society is diverse, whether it is because of race, gender, socioeconomic, or culture, I have learnt that it is important to respect a person for who they are. Because America is a country that is culturally diverse, I will need to do some research on a patient that has a different culture from me. As I stated in the first paragraph, there will always be a way for human beings to diversify themselves into groups in which share similar interests. Diversity starts in the school, kids, tend to hang with people of similar characteristics, whether it is that the kids play the same sport or share the same religion. These differences in our society is what makes human beings in general interesting. Even If a group of people and similar a society will tend to look for the slightest difference, and categorize people, whether it is culture, religion, gender, socioeconomic, and
Diversity is the difference between people’s culture, nationality, ability, ethnic origin, gender, age, religion, belief, sexual orientation and social class.
In the past, races were identified by the imposition of discrete boundaries upon continuous and often discordant biological variation. The concept of race is therefore a historical construct and not one that provides either valid classification or an explanatory process. Popular everyday awareness of race is transmitted from generation to generation through cultural learning. Attributing race to an individual or a population amounts to applying a social and cultural label that lacks scientific consensus and supporting data. While anthropologists continue to study how and why humans vary biologically, it is apparent that human populations differ from one another much less than do populations in other species because we use our cultural, rather than our physical differences to aid us in adapting to various environments.
Writing has been an important part of every culture from the beginning of time. The illustrations of cavemen have evolved immensely. Today, there are millions of published books. In fact, there are over four hundred books published every month. What happens when these books turn into something more? Is there racism in our children's literature? Ironically, the renowned great works of our past is full of racism. The question that remains, how do we teach our children the great lesson that these brave authors intended?
Diversity refers to the ways people differ from each other. These ways are significant and plentiful. Culturally, people vary in gender, age, ethnicity, race sexual orientation, educational background, religion, lifestyle, as well as veteran and/or immigrant status. Functionally, people vary in the ways we think, learn, process information, respond to authority, show respect and reach agreements (Pollar & Gonzalez, 2011.)
Diversity is a notion, when applied to the majority of circumstances, can create a positive conclusion. The trick to producing a positive outcome is often how the different aspects are brought together. Consider a classic dinner combination peas and carrots, the two colors look appealing and the two flavors comes together as one making a superb side dish. Now consider oil and water, these two substance are not often considered a good combination. Although, this is not always the case; olive oil and vinegar (which is water based) when mixed, come together into a delectable salad dressing. Diversity and inclusion should also apply to humans by bringing people together who are different it can creates a whole that is enhanced by the uniqueness of each individual.
Multicultural literature is a way of increasing cultural awareness. Through multicultural books many young readers are able to make a connection with their own culture
The world is currently undergoing a cultural change, and we live in an increasingly diverse society. This change is not only affect the people in the community but also affect the way education is viewed. Teaching diversity in the classroom and focusing multicultural activities in the programs can help improve positive social behavior in children. There is no question that the education must be prepared to embrace the diversity and to teach an increasingly diverse population of young children.
In a world that diversity is found in everything that controls our living as humans in one
Diversity is defined as “people from differing age groups, genders, ethnic and racial backgrounds, cultural and national origins, and mental and physical capabilities.” (Plunkett, Allen, Attner, 2013).
The world as a whole is becoming more diverse. There is diversity in schools and in the workplace. People should understand that diversity is what makes the world go around. If all people had the same characteristics then the world would be a very boring place. Even though all human beings are the same in some ways, we are still culturally different. Cultural diversity lets us appreciate our differences. Different cultural groups have varying beliefs, customs, values, and a wide variety of characteristics that make them special. Cultural influences make people see the world differently and cultural diversity should be appreciated.
