Too Much Technology Is Bad For Kids
Today’s technology has kids hooked. Devices like the Ipad, cellphones, and the basic TV are stealing this generations childhood. Technology can interfere with sports because children prefer to be using their devices. Some people may not understand but, technology is pretty much taking over children's lives. Parents should be to keep their children away from technology as long as they can and not use devices as a baby sitter. Technology should be limited for young children because it can cause kids to become obese, perform poorly in school, and it can cause kids to not sleep well at night.
First, technology can cause children to start becoming obese. In an article it says, “Teens who watch more than 5 hours

In the article it says, “Teens often use social media while doing homework” (Why to limit your child's media use). Using social media while doing homework can potentially distract teens from the homework that they were assigned, which can make their grade go down. A quote supporting this topic says, “Multitasking can put a negative effect on school performance” (Why to limit your child's media use). Some kids while doing homework, will look at social media which can distract the student from doing their work, technology might cause the students performance level drop a little bit. In an article about a class of students said that, After examining a spider under a microscope for a few moments, the kids drifted back to their areas were they had been playing video games (Why to limit your child's media use). Kids are not very interested in science projects or discovering new sports that they can play anymore, they are more interested in video games, video games distract them from school work, which can potentially make their grades go down because of lack of participation or not doing homework. Kids should be limited from technology because it can make them not study for tests and perform poorly in …show more content…
Some articles support that, Technology could give kids a little bit of self control (Ten ways technology is good for kids). The young kids are exposed to the blue light from the devices, which will make them be woken, which will cause them to become hyper. Another claim, is that technology can help with learning (Steinberg 1). While people think that technology is good, there is also bad side to having technology. When young children do homework or study for tests they are usually distracted by games.. Also, Technology can help people grow in confidence and self esteem (Steinberg 1). Technology can’t really help people grow in confidence. When people use technology, it is a distraction, that can make grades go down, and can also bring self esteem down too. The people that support children not being limited to technology do not have very many reasons to help support the good sides of technology. On the other hand, people that support technology being limited for kids have many good details to use to fight against those people who
After reviewing the article,“The Epidemic of Media Multitasking While Learning” By Annie Murphy Paul, it can be concluded that the author believes that most students cannot learn or do any homework related assignments without the usage of social media. With believing that most students cannot focus long enough on an assignment without using social media it provides evidence behind the author’s theory. Thus, with these certain types of studies it leads the author into believing that media multitasking shortens the focus of students in today’s society. Throughout the article, the author supports her main points by utilizing studies that proves her main point. By the author providing multiple examples of the research studies done on students
...g children and technology, it requires a delicate balance. American Academy of Pediatrics recommends no media for children under two years of age and no more than two hours a day of “high quality content” for children and teens. While there are parental controls that can be set and programs installed to monitor content and duration of use, a motivated child can find ways around them. In some cases, more drastic measures may be necessary including, but not limited to, removing devices, cancelling Internet services and disconnecting TV satellite connections. It is important to intervene early, as the challenges can grow because the reliance on technology can become habitual. The stakes are high and, while technology has made some things easier, parenting children so that they have an appropriate relationship with devices and the world around them is not one of them.
Matt Richtel’s article, “Growing Up Digital, Wired For Distraction,” validates that the point is technology is becoming a huge distraction with students and is seriously affecting them and their school. In the first section of the article Ritchel makes it clear that the point is that students attention spans are becoming smaller and smaller because their overuse of technology is distracting them. The author says in the first section of the article, “Growing Up With Gadgets,” that, “half of students from 8 to 18 are using the Internet, watching TV or using some other form of media either “most” (31 percent) or “some” (25 percent) of the time that they are doing homework.” This survey taken from the Kaiser Family Foundation shows that technology is distracting many students
Many people have a wide range of opinions on whether technology is having a positive influence on our children or a negative, there is a vast amount of evidence to support both of these arguments. Technology can refer to so many things, but there are three main parts of technology that have the greatest effect on our children: video games, television/media, and computers. The modern technologies we have today are so powerful because they attract our genetic biases, that the human brain has a tremendous love for visually presented information. Video games, television, movies and computer programs are all very visually oriented and therefore they attract and keep the attention of children easily. By far the largest concern of technology today is video games.
The US Department of Health commends that children who are under the age of two shouldn’t have any screen time at all. It’s essential to establish screen time rules, such as how long the child can be in front of the electronic. Parents could get an app on their electronic that shuts the electronic off after a certain amount of time. If a child has too much screen time when they are younger, they may become “addicted” to watching television all of the time when they are bored. In addition, it is important that children are kept away from screens or it may have an effect on their educational development.
Technology is so easy for the youth to access and there are many things that affect children through the use of technology. Children can misuse technology by accessing inappropriate materials, most kids today have smart phones and are able to access this so easily. Another reason children are affected by technology is that they are never taught how to properly use it, so they begin to think what they are doing is okay, when it is not, at a young age. My generation is more prone to the misuse of technology because they have grown up with it and it has been apart of their childhood. As technology becomes more developed it will be more vibrant in children’s lives and as they grow up it will become more of a part of their childhood. The more it is in a child’s life the more it will become more known. I did not receive a phone until I was 14 and it was not even an IPhone, but today there are children who have IPhones at the age of 8. This affects children because they are becoming more dependant on technology as a young child and they think that it is alright to depend on technology. They are given technology and they do not know how to use it properly nor do they know that it is not okay for them to depend on technology and that they need to depend on their minds to do things not just technology. The more technology comes involved in children’s lives the more it will affect them throughout their
While generations of today have witnessed countless technological advances, there are also downfalls to these progressions. Technology interferes with education, attention spans, relationships, social interactions, self esteem, and even creativity. In order for technology to have more pros than cons, it is pertinent to keep a clear perspective. Monitoring how much you or your children spend time using electronics is the key to making sure that technology is not harmful.
Negative Effects of Technology on Children? Personal. Psu. 21 March 2010. Web.
Overall, the heavy use of technology can have negative effects on children, but technology is only becoming more apparent in their everyday
Children growing up in the modern world of today would rather stay inside and play on the internet, watch television, or play video games than go outside and play. Serious repetitive strain injuries suffered after spending hours glued to game consoles is up 60% since 2002 (Par. 5 Clarke). Technology and modern society have created lifestyle changes that are detrimental to the well being of children. First, this paper will discuss the effects of technology and modern society on the physical and mental health of the children. Second, the paper will discuss the dangers to children resulting from new technology. Lastly, the paper will discuss the modern lifestyle changes in families and their effects on the children.
...many benefits for us, but it is not really needed all the time. Maybe in some situations for people technology is needed every day in their lives. But the fact is that people don’t really need all these new gadgets, they didn’t have all of this kind of stuff back in the day, and they still mad it through. Education is being helped by technology and sometimes just giving the student the answer. Later on though it can affect the student when a more difficult situation comes, they will not know what to do.
There has been a long lasting debate in the resent years on whether or not technology has a positive or negative impact on today’s kids. As the years move on, the negative effects have begun to outnumber the positive. The generations previous spent their childhood making forts, fishing, and using their imaginations, contrary to today’s generations who spend their free time texting, playing video games, and watching videos. Damaging effects such as decreases in school performances, addiction to electronics, and lack of brain development have all been linked to the electronic media stimulation. In order to prevent the future generation from following in the current generations footsteps, one must full comprehend just how much technology impacts
To continue, everyone can agree that children need a healthy environment to develop cognitive, social, emotional, physical and linguistic development. How much technology can improve or distract from these essential skills varies with age. The impact and implications of technology tools on young children has been studied and researched through the Let’s Move Childcare initiative and results concluded that little to no “screen time” is preferred for children under the age of two. For children two years or older, the recommended “screen time” is limited to thirty minutes per week in the classroom setting. (White House, 2011.)
As a result of technology being a major distraction in children’s lives, they are being taken away from the opportunities that could be given to them. Children are less likely to have the desire to learn new activities, such as hiking or fishing, when they are exposed and addicted to technology at such a young age. The ambition to succeed in school may also be diminished when the overuse of technology occurs. As children succeed from pre-school to fourth-grade, their minds are open to new learning. This learning can consist of sports, schoolwork, or extracurricular activities outside of the classroom.
Smartphones prohibit children from socially interacting. Children who use their parent’s smartphones for playing games miss out on opportunities to interact with others. Children can become addicted to the games, this can cause problems later in life when they need social skills.
