Treat others as you want to be treated (Ramsay, 227), is an important thing to do in your personal life and at your work as well. Respecting your employees, co-workers, and friends is a crucial part of your business practices so that you can gain their loyalty and respect. Quality people, indeed all people, have a need to be treated with dignity (Ramsay, 228). Loyalty and unity create a working team dedicated to committing to their job and build great companies. While working as a correctional officer, the people who are at a lower rank seem to respect each other more than the ones that are at the top. At the start of my correctional career, higher level supervisor treated each officer with respect and acknowledged how great of a job their staff were doing. Sometimes, the administration will bring food for a potluck and congratulated their unit staff with a job well done. Supervisors …show more content…
My friends who recognize me having a bad day at work are always there to talk to me and give advice in new job assignments that will arise. In the case of an emergency at my correctional facility, I will aid in every way possible, so my coworkers go home safe and without injury. My colleagues take notice, of my actions and it comes back to me in a right way by my coworkers by either buying me breakfast or bringing me a cold beverage as a nice gesture. These types of actions signify the loyalty and friendship you have with your staff and acknowledge the trust you have with your employees. Some of the things I would like to improve at work or later career is recognizing good employees. Start making a habit of catching people doing something right (Ramsey, 241). A nice compliment, a nod, or even bringing desert while recognizing their good actions can bring a smile to a coworker and make them feel that they are part of a family in the
at work I have learned that I have to treat them with respect in order to receive respect in return. When that respect isn’t there, expect to have a long and stressful day. I was told that that you will have some inmates who will talk to you in a disrespectful manner because they want to have the authority of everyone. When this takes place, you have to sternly put your foot down and make it known who the officer is and who the inmate is. Some inmates think just because you know them you will be easy on them that is never the case. If you feel uncomfortable with dealing with someone you know just get another officer to take your place with that. He explained a situation where a young man he was in karate class with had entered the facility with a drug charge, it was going around that he was going to give the young man special treatment so instead of that being a possible accusation he called for a replacement. He also had gone back to the respect aspect of the conversation saying that the main reason why that is enforced is because; these males and females are human. They have families living on the outside as well as they do have the possibility of getting out and who knows since he is at a county facility it is more common to see people that he went to school with, lived near etc. So for his safety and his family’s family he is mindful and is very professional when at work and
Effective organizations are able to clearly define their ethical expectations by setting high moral standards, writing codes of conduct, and utilizing mentoring programs. “Masters provide your servants with what is right and fair, because you know that you also have a Master in heaven” (Col. 4:1). When organizations clearly define their ethical expectations to their subordinates, they are much more likely to treat their customers fairly. Customers who are treated fairly are much more likely to be loyal consumers of the products or services that the company provides. This helps to establish a loyal customer base that a business can depend upon, thus providing a predictable source of annual revenue. If an employer treats their employees with respect, honesty, and with candor they’ll give the customer 110% (Rion, 2001).
Respect to me is admiring someone for their abilities, qualities, or achievements. I think respect is always earned an can never be given. As soldiers soldiers we should always respect our peers because they have made the same sacrifice as us. But as soldiers we should have a higher level of respect for our NCOs because they have done their time an have earned it. Being respectful is not hard it is simple, just treat others the way we would like to be treated ourselves.
Having the rank of Sergeant or above they earn that right of respect, because that rank is not given to them. They literally have to earn it by going to Basic Leaders Course and go and standing in front of board members between the ranks of Sergeant First Class, Sergeant Majors, and Command Sergeant Majors to get there promotable status. As a Non Commissioned Officer they are trusted with the power to be able to lead, train and develop soldiers, so disrespect is one thing they shouldn’t have to deal with. Also being in the Army showing disrespect you will get counseled with the title “Disrespect to a Non Commissioned Officer”. It really only takes one DA form 4856 with disrespect to get pushed up for Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) if written correctly. If it’s not written correct, it usually takes two or three to get pushed for UCMJ
The same idea of an unwavering hierarchy that extends beyond title and into the deep roots of merit are inherent in both concepts. Even dealing with other branches of service, there are certain expectations to be upheld when dealing with an officer, a senior enlisted, and even with your peers. Officers are saluted by enlisted members, just as junior enlisted members stand at parade rest when addressing Non-Commissioned Officers (NCO). This level of respect would continue on into a civilian environment, although no saluting would be present in civilian attire. For example, a lower enlisted member could be at a restaurant or a bar over the weekend and happen to see his Company Commander. Even out of the work environment and military setting, the should still subtly take each other’s rank into account with everything said, such as a “Sir” every now and then from the enlisted member as well as avoiding certain comments that could get a soldier in trouble when dealing with his Chain of Command. This same level of military bearing will also carry on into encounters with civilians as military members and prior service member can almost always be spotted in a crowd with relative ease. Bearing can be taught at a basic level, but one must have the initiative to follow the guidance set before them and behave a certain
We recognize that our success as an enterprise depends on the talent, skills and expertise of our people and our ability to function as a tightly integrated team. We appreciate our diversity and believe that respect - for our colleagues, customers, partners, and all those with whom we interact - is an essential element of all positive and productive business relationships.
As a ROTC cadet in the United States Army, It is my job to respect any cadre member and cadets appointed over me. Respect in the army and in the real world are slightly two different things. Outside ROTC world respect cannot be demanded nor expected, but as in ROTC world it is completely the opposite. Respect is an absolute necessity because that is what separates us from being non-professionals and professionals. We must respect all the cadets who are appointed over us
Aureus Medical Group (2013) states “one of the most important is proper etiquette; mastering this skill will endear you to your patients, foster confidence in your co-workers and impress your superiors” (para. 1). Personally, I regard four character qualities as the bare minimum in life and the relationships I develop. These qualities are respect, integrity, courtesy, and humility. The three most important characteristics to employ in my healthcare career are respect, integrity, and
In schools, defending the bullied from the bullies. In the work industry, treating colleagues and seniors with respect. In the home environment, showing love and kindness to one’s family members, without favoritism or biasness. In regards to the law, one should never be swayed by the evil influences of others for self-gain. Each and every one of us should uphold equality, punishing those who deserve it, and blessing those who need it. Yet, there are times where mercy and grace can be bestowed upon those who have done wrong. In this way, justice would be served, and would reign even with the impact of immorality, racism and the self-centered human nature. In order for this to take place, integrity, selflessness and purity must be embedded in each of
...d rules that are managed and reinforced can make a difference in the organization. Senior leaders must be aware of the influential impact that immediate leaders play in the daily duties of the workplace. Then the immediate leaders can emphasize and support the ethical character of their workers. Civility demands that a person must be self-disciplined for the sake of others. “By putting ethics into practice in our day-to-day encounters, civility is that moral glue without which our society would come apart” (Brannigan, 2008, para. 13). It is more important than ever for companies to act responsibly, as customers are buying products and services from the companies that they trust. Ethical values can be incorporated into an organization’s culture. Ethics plays an important role in the company and can have beneficial and profitable results on the corporation.
The word honor means high respect. But to me, it means something a lot deeper. It means having dignity, personal courage, and integrity in everything you do. Marie Curie is one of the most famous scientists that ever lived. Her contributions such as the discovery of Radium and other key elements have change the way we live to today. In 1892, in Paris, Maria Sklodowska meant her future husband, Pierre Curie –professor in the School of Physics. Together the brilliant pair became researchers at the School of Chemistry and Physics in Paris. At first, she worked alone on her projects. She was intrigued with the work of Henri Becquerel, who had found a new phenomenon which invisible rays given off by uranium. “Marie also noticed that samples of a mineral called pitchblende, which contains uranium ore, were a great deal more radioactive than
On a recent visit to Europe, I had the good fortune to participate in a study tour, focusing on teenage sexuality, sex-education in the schools, the impact of the media, and parent-child communication. While teen sexual activity, pregnancy rates, HIV and STI statistics are exceedingly high in the United States; the Netherlands, Germany and France all maintain a much healthier standard. While these European teens are not only beginning sexual activity a year later than our teens, on an average, the reason for their better health seems to me fairly obvious better mental health. These teens are being groomed with self-respect from a very young age.
First, there is respect, just because you have the rank and status of an officer doesn’t mean those below you in your command are going to respect you. A lot of people are going into the army as officers thinking everyone owes them something and that they have to do what they say. All I can say to that is, you’re in for a rude awakening. As officers we should respect those below us and talk to them as a leader should not a boss especially our NCOS and PSG. I believe that they are the best asset a young officer has at his disposal due to their knowledge and
Finally, behavioral impression management comes into play. Behavioral impression management is how one performs a job and how they interact with other people. Treating others with respect usually results in respect being returned. One of the operations managers in my facility wears sweater vests to work. When he transferred to a new shift, one of the managers he now found himself over also started wearing sweater vests. Later, a few more managers began to emulate this behavior. Unfortunately for the managers, the operations manager caught on and was not impressed. Shortly after he pointed out the new fashion craze that followed him to his new shift, it ended, and the managers had to find other ways to impress their new boss.
My family has always been a priority for me because they always taught me how important it is to respect others. I highly value respect for others as well as myself. Having respect for others is very important at all times in any given situation. Respecting others opinions, beliefs, and values show 's you are acknowledging their feelings and ensures the person they are as important as anyone else. Being able to give someone your respect can also grant you with respect in return. Being respectful can also have an effect on your personality. It can help determine how you interact around others. The quality of respect has components to help others relate if you are a rude person or a kind one. In the late 1800 's John Stuart mill and Jeremy Bentham established a theory of social justice. Utilitarianism theory consists of moral ethics. The action of doing right and treating others equally maximizes utility and brings happiness to most people. Having respect can bring many positive aspects such as happiness, being happy can bring happiness to others around you that is an essential to solving problems that reduces conflict with one another. Having a value that is such a priority in life does not mean that you have to go against what you believe in order to satisfy others. It just helps you on improving on how you see the world and why others might feel the way they do. Respect has taught me not to be selfish and only think
