Have you ever wonder why only a select amount of people survive in life threatening scenarios. Examples of life threatening scenarios can range from the recent attacks in Paris to the events that transpired on 9/11. The actions that people take can be the difference between life and death. As society is becoming more vulnerable to attacks people are beginning to think about what they would do in a life threatening scenario. Could the events show an individual's courage and ability to think quick or could the scenario lead to the dreaded word of death? Individuals differ in mental capacities when it comes to life threatening scenarios depending on their preparation and ability to think clearly through the situation.

The moment that an individual encounters a life threatening event many people go into panic mode and don’t know what to do. John Leach is a military survival instructor and his research proved, “He (John Leach) has found that in life-threatening situations, around 75% of people are so bewildered by the situation that they are unable to think clearly or plot their escape” (Bond). With people being unable to think clearly they make mistakes when trying to escape and can lead to the downfall of others during escape. Remaining calm is an important thing to do to make sure that an individual can think of a clear route to safety. People can’t think of the concept of death and are obsessed with the fact of death which is portrayed with many news reports. People are obsessed with the fact of that and that’s illustrated with this quote, “Humans are obsessed with death; we simply have a hard time wrapping our mind around what happens when we die” (Ringo).
