Cecily Von Ziegesar is the famous author who wrote the famous book Gossip Girl. Ziegesar was born June 27th 1970 in New York City, New York. She is currently living still living in New York with her husband and two children. She attended college at Colby College and got her BA in english. After one year of attending University of Arizona, Ziegesar dropped out of the MFA program. MFA is the Masters of FIne Art program. Ziegesar was originally a middle grade fiction series editor with Alloy Entertainment. While containing that job, she began writing a book called Gossip GIrl for her job. She eventually quit and started writing.
After doing some research, I have concluded that this is the only book that she has wrote that is banned or challenged.

I like all the crazy twist is throws at you. Like when we found out that Serena started dating her best friend, Blair, boyfriend Nate. I also like how some people can relate to all the drama. However, I do not like how sexual it can get at times. It is a really cool book but it goes too much into detail. I would love the book if it did not have intense things.
One theme I believe could of been a reason to why it was banned is that talks about the “coming of age”. The author states, “A strong coming-of-age theme is symbolized by the transition that many of the kids are making from their carefree and privileged life in Manhattan, New York to university life” (Book Rags). This may be true because it did talk a lot about drugs and sexual content so some people may have found it offensive.
I do not think that they should ban this book. Gossip Girl is a very interesting book that a lot of people, I believe, would like. Everyone loves gossip and that is what this book is about. It also talks about High School situations. The situations may be over dramatic but some are relatable. Even though I was not a big fan of this book because of how sexual it would get, a lot of people do like it. If you do not like the book or your guardians do not like the book then do not read it. Just because some people do not like it does not mean that they should ban it so no one else can read it
I found the book to be easy, exciting reading because the story line was very realistic and easily relatable. This book flowed for me to a point when, at times, it was difficult to put down. Several scenes pleasantly caught me off guard and some were extremely hilarious, namely, the visit to Martha Oldcrow. I found myself really fond of the char...
While researching the book you discover that in South Carolina, the Berkley County school district, was one of the first to pull the book from schools and libraries. This occurred after a mom protested the book when her 8th grade daughter had to read little experts from the book to her classmates. The student's mother did not want her to be reading a book with so much profanity and references to sex. One of the most controversial lines that comes from the book is when Alice writes in her journal “Another day, another blow-job”. She does these blow jobs in exchange for drugs.
The novel the outsiders should be banned because it has violence things that happens in the novel. “But dally, heaters kill people’’,kill em with switchblades to, dontcha?” This quote states that the characters in the book are really dangerous. All this violence should not be told to kids, teens.
There are multiple reasons why a book can be banned or challenged. Book banning causes the removal of materials in schools and libraries due to “inappropriate” content. The Lovely Bones, by Alice Sebold, was banned due to sexual content and language.
...ves to be on the banned books list because of its level of violence. One that wants this book off the banned books list could say that violence is everywhere, why should one book be banned for showing something that is everywhere in todays society. I think this book shows a good concept of war. It could open ones mind to the idea of war and how one is forced to fight for themself and even their country. In the book they fight for themself and their district but relating it to the readers life he or she can think of it as fighting for themselves and their country. Which I believe is a good concept for young teenagers to be exposed to. I think this book should be off the banned books list because there are many reasons The Hunger Games can be considered a “good” book, it portrays many good themes throughout the novel and it can be translated into modern day war.
'The novel has long ignited disapproval, and it was the most frequently banned book in schools between 1966 and 1975. Even before that time,
However, this book absolutely should not be banned. The Perks Of Being A Wallflower has depth. It isn’t like the cheesy high school movies you’d see on disney channel, it’s more real. It shows what actual high school is like and addresses real problems that students face. Many of the justifications for the banning were parents saying they didn’t want their kid exposed to the obscenities, but realistically speaking, their kid probably already has been. They will find out from friends or the internet either way, so why not let them read about it and learn? Suicide was also mentioned several times throughout the novel, and was another reason for its discomfort among parents. This is another thing very prominent in high school, and it often goes unspoken of; and as time goes on, middle schoolers will experience this too. The Perks Of Being A Wallflower should not be banned because it is realistic and touching, not to mention an
Again I think the book should not be banned because it has good reasons on why it should be banned but the parents and the other challengers haven’t provide efficient enough evidence in my opinion. The evidence I provided could easily overturn the ruling of the book being banned because yes there’s violence in the book but it’s the way the parents see the violence and the children might see it a different way. This book is teaching a lesson to the reader to never give up and show bravery like Katniss in the book. The violence exposed in this book should mature your children and as a parent to know that there’s more violence in the real world then in this fictional violence.
It was censored in many states because of the inappropriate behaviors in the book. The public schools and libraries wanted to deter the teenagers from trying drugs and to act upon sexual activities. In 1974, Michigan schools removed the novel because of the language and sexual content. It was unsuitable for students under the age, and for students whose parents weren’t okay with the vocabulary and plot of this novel. Underage individuals could participate in the acts presented in the novel, and could cause serious harm to others. It was censored to prevent the repetition of the plot of the story.
In “The Catcher in the Rye”, there is plenty of controversy on the content that is in the book. There are curse words constantly throughout the book. Just that reason alone could be a reason why this book could be censored. If a book has enough controversy to be considered to be banned in schools, there is obviously content from the book that is considered dirty or a bad influence to people. That is a reason that this book is censored. People think it is dirty and could be a bad influence to children. Some people do not want their children going to school and reading books that have that kind of material in it. Some other reasons the book could cause controversy is that it has violence, sexual connotations, and the overall attitude that Holden expressed throughout the book. Those examples from the book are what makes a copious amount of people stay away from reading the book. The different types of character issues that Holden has in the book results in a bunch of people disliking his character, and therefore the book. I feel that all books that are ill-advised for immature people should be banned for high school students that are below the 11th grade, and in all grades below that.
Books are banned for many reasons but more times than not it is because of the sensitive information found within the novel that agitates the reader. As long as people have been able to develop their own opinions, others have sought to prevent them from sharing. At some point in time, every idea has ultimately become objectionable to someone. The most frequently challenged and most visible targets of such objection are the very books found in classrooms and public libraries. These controversial novels teach lessons that sometimes can be very sensitive to some but there is much more to challenged books than a controversial topic. What lies within these pages is a wealth of knowledge, such as new perspectives for readers, twisting plots, and expressions that are found nowhere else. For example, To Kill A Mockingbird, contains references to rape, racial content, and profanity that have caused many to challenge the novel in the first place. The book was banned from countless
I understand that it is disturbing, but it is unfortunately a historical part of this nation, that everybody, no matter his or her race, should know about. Today, racism still happens, yet it differentiates from the past because it occurs in many directions. I believe if more students were able to see the innocent point of view established in To Kill a Mockingbird, they would be able to view the distinction between good and evil in human nature, and gain a new perspective of how everybody should be treated fairly. The use of foul language and the concept of sex can be overtaken based on the maturity of the reader. In my eyes, the use of vulgar language has indeed become more present, and education on sexual topics is expanding in this generation, so the fact that this book is banned based on those standards confuses me even more.
The second reason why I think that the book should be banned is because it is filled with sexism. There is only one woman and the men think that she is weak, helpless, or were put here for a r...
This book was banned and also burned by the Nazis in Italy and Yugoslavia (Freedom to Read). Many people believe that books should be banned due to information such as protecting kids from information that some feel they should not learn about and protecting them from encountering opposing viewpoints with difficult ideas and information. Some book banning is bad because it causes reduced empathy, stifles intellectual curiosity, and children and adults alike cannot compare and contrast thoughts or ideas without the knowledge of books. Firstly, banning books causes reduced empathy by limiting the knowledge of other people and other cultures. Many occurrences of books being banned are because of the thoughts or beliefs of others.
While books may have contents that aren’t suitable for kids, that’s why there are warning labels on novels. There are three reasons why a book may get banned, as reported by the Office of Intellectual Freedom. They can get banned for being “sexually explicit”, the material contained “offensive language”, or material that was “unsuited to any age group”. These are reasonable reasons why they shouldn’t belong in the school, but not off the face of the earth. It’s reasonable for schools to ban them from their libraries, but it’s completely unreasonable for advocates to try to fully ban the book from publishing.
