The teens live in an environment where drinking alcohol is the same as drinking water. They are allowed to drink as much as they would like, as long as they do not embarrass their parents. Many of the teens get drunk for the first time in the eighth grade. That is seven years before they legally should even have their first sip. “Rufus kept the beer flowing out of keg in the bathtub, getting many drunk for the first time” (Ziegesar). Also many of them come into school with horrible hangovers. This shows that these kids are way too young to be getting drunk, because they do not know how to handle themselves properly. Coming to school with a hangover can affect how they learn and keep them from getting the best education possible. This also illustrates how drinking seems so much fun for the kids, but it conveniently leaves out the consequences of this action. Furthermore, irresponsible teens do not think ahead for their future. They do not consider the health risks involved, such as alcoholism and liver

Now in article there are a lot of possible exigencies listed threw out the article one of the main exigencies is that Judy bulme has personal experience with censorship as a little girl, with that personal account she has familiarity that compels and gives her credibility to write this article. With exigencie their also comes a purpose bulme’s purpose in the article is trying to convince parents that you should not coddle a young teen or an adolescent from literature that may not be suitable for them, but let their mind wonder and explain it after they read it. Also she communicates that censorship on books are not right because it’s unconstitutional violating the first amendment freedom of press. The context that you have to consider in the time of Judy bulme article is there is are a lot of issues going on the America culture that censorship of government felt need be. For inesxctie like the cold war was going on and nobody knew if another war was going to break out at any time. So any material that seemed edgy or conserverial it was going to be censored or restricted by the censors to the minors. Then th...
With so many novels to read, you wouldn’t guess that there are classics banned. A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle is one of those many novels. A Wrinkle in Time has been awarded the Newbery Medal, Sequoyah Book Award, and Lewis Carroll Shelf Award, and was runner-up for the Hans Christian Andersen Award.
With the thought that someone can be hurt by reading a book, people will try to challenge and ban them. To ban a book is to have it restricted from a certain age or audience. Banning and challenging books is trying to keep a certain book away from an audience due to sexual content, going against religious beliefs, language and vulgarity, violence, drugs, self-harm, racism, occult/satanic views, promoting gangs, and going against community standards. An argument from someone who believes books should not be banned is that it is important for the age group to learn about certain content and material as they grow up. Due to controversial content, the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald should be banned.
Many might think that all teenage or young adult books would be filled with happy thoughts and positive things, but you don't learn lessons from everything being perfect. That’s where banned or challenged books come along. A challenged book is a book that has been requested by many to be moved off a library's shelf. A banned book is a challenged book the has been removed from the shelves. The Outsiders was one of the best-selling books of its time and has won 5 awards since. It was banned and challenged for many reasons by many school districts. By examining its usage of expose on family dysfunction, strong language and portrayal of gang violence, it is clear why some would have it banned.
Books are banned and/or challenged for multiple reasons. Many books have valued information within them however, still become banned or challenged. The Gossip Girl series is a series that should be banned in certain locations such as a middle school library. The content in the books should not be made available to people under the age of fifteen. Some of the inappropriate content includes: sex, drugs, offensive language, inappropriate attitudes, and scandals.
This book was banned due to the use of drugs, sexual activities, and inappropriate language. “The novel is presented as the diary of a teenage girl and details her troubled life, particularly emphasizing the reality and perils of a teen drug addiction”. It was censored to prevent teenage drug addictions, teen pregnancy, and suicidal
The Catcher in the Rye was a novel written by J. D. Salinger sometime in the 40’s, but it was not published until 1951. The Catcher in the Rye has been banned throughout schools multiple times, for its profanity alone. The levels of profanity vary, but it is not just the actual language that got the book banned. It will always be an important book in American literature, banning it is just keeping students away from one of the best books ever written. The Catcher in the Rye should be kept in classrooms throughout schools because it teaches us so many life lessons. A few lessons that this novel teaches are that profanity and violence are everywhere, things will
...them when they take just one drink of alcohol, even if it is just one shot or one beer, it affect you. Most college student drink to socialize and that is not a good thing to do. When a students, or anyone, drink to be social there are more likely to have more then what they intended. Alcohol will affect the way that students think, feel, act, and socialize with others. Drink is a dangers action to participate in but that is a choice that one needs to make on their own. It is always fun at the time, but at that same time one does not think that they are permanently arming to their bodies. Whether children and teens drink 15,25 or even 30 percent of the alcohol consumed, the reality is that America has an underage drinking epidemic and alcohol is by far the drug most used by children and teens and poses the greatest threat to their well-being” (Underage, CNN.com pg2).
A lot of the time, teens think it is ‘cool’ to drink because everyone else does it. Almost every television show that young people watch have some underage substance abuse, leading adolescents to believe that it can’t be that bad. While society plays a big part in this huge problem, both teens and parents need to learn that there can be severe consequences from as little as one drink. Allowing them to think this kind of behavior is acceptable will haunt them for the rest of their lives, even if they are not alcohol related. Believing that such behavior is acceptable now will lead them to bad decision-making skills in the future when faced with an ethical decision. Teens need to know the major effects can come from underage drinking before going to that party or when being pressured into something they may not be willing to participate in. It is obvious that the long and short-term effects of alcohol abuse can be easily avoided by getting educated and thinking before engaging in any self-destructive

They attend the same school as the elite, but live over the bridge in a loft in Manhattan. The bridge represents the class divide between the Upper East Side and Brooklyn. Alice in Wonderland. A classic, isn’t it? When one thinks of it, do they generally think of animal abuse, sexual content, or drug references? Absolutely not. But believe it or not, this book has been banned in many schools and public libraries.
It has been loved because of its great characters that allow us a first person point of view into their two very different lives, the young love that forms between them that faces lots of ups and downs, and the young dumb humor experienced by young teens everyday. It has been hated for its vulgar language spoken by the young high school characters, the bullying that takes place in the school, and the sexual content between characters. Although it is usually said that love trumps hate, that is not necessarily the situation with this book. Despite having great characters and a fantastic plot, this book still contains controversial and disturbing matter that has caused it to be loved, hated and even challenged. The book Eleanor and Park should not be banned because it contains relevant topics and situations that teens face
...to the emotional whirlwind of the relationship these two affluent Manhattanites share. They want to be a part of the world where a boy will fly all over Europe just to bring his girlfriend her favorite gifts when he tells her that he loves her for the first time; they want to wear haute couture and go to lavish parties with someone special; they want to be pursued by someone who could have any material possession they wanted, but it wouldn’t satisfy them like the love of their life would. Again, the fact that Chuck and Blair are fabulously wealthy makes their love story a bit more sparkly and unattainable, but it adds to the enchantment of it all. The writers of Gossip Girl created this romantic tale to make sparks fly, and those sparks have caused a wildfire among viewers who crave a love story as all-consuming and passionate as that of Chuck Bass and Blair Waldorf.
Imagine having a girl who has ruined your life return to you school to try and ruin it some more. Well in the book Gossip Girl, the main character Blair has a so called “friend” who is trying to have all of the attention on her and will make everyone’s lives miserable to get it. The puritans would oppose the book Gossip Girl because it includes inappropriate clothing, law breaking characters, and the characters living sinful lives.
