Someone I consider to be an influential leader in today’s world is Ellen DeGeneres. Ellen has not let her celebrity status hinder her from helping in her community and those across the country. Instead, she has used her platform to give those a voice who may not have been heard otherwise. Ellen has made a positive impact on the world by helping cancer patients, donating to and helping deprived schools as well as underprivileged kids. She has been a major spokesperson for the LGBTQ community standing up for equal rights for them and behind those who need support in a world where some may not appreciate them. Ellen has donated to charities like The Halo Pet Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, PETA, Straight but Not Narrow, Stand Up to Cancer, and much more. What I think makes Ellen unique is her transparency. She doesn’t pretend to be who she isn’t, and is a big stickler for others being themselves. Her happiness and the love that she has for people is very infectious bringing the same joy that she possesses to those around her. Another quality that she has is that she is genuinely funny. When someone is doing something because it is truly what they love to do, it shines through regardless. Through her comedy, she makes preposterous issues bearable and grave issues easier to understand. From small impacts like laughter to the larger ones like self-appreciation, Ellen has done her best to help the community of the world. She has managed to help change how we perceive the word 'gay,' people have followed her example and used her as an inspiration, whether gay or not.
