The concept can create difficult, causing conflict depending on the person’s thinking. If just one person is not open to the idea of difference it can lead to constant misunderstandings and create a toxic environment. Given today’s society, diversity draws a fine line amongst individuals. The climate of today is far more advance when it comes to technology but not when it comes to human interaction. To understand others, it is important to see everyone as different. When tend to say, “treat others as you would want to be treated” referring to respect but different cultures see respect differently. We forgot not only are others different but we are different from others. When see ourselves as the norm and others as outsiders then give in to the belief that they need to conform to the norm. Is this a good idea? Is the “Norm” always the right thing or doing the right thing? America is one of the most diverse countries and going through this semester see how diverse the population verse how non-diverse the nation’s communication skills are. The United States is a hyper aggressive society and tend to communication in one way and if the other person does not get its their problem but is it just their problem? Mentioned before diversity is a benefit. Diversification adds advantages that other uniformed societies lack. Every individual in society and in a community is unique in their own ways, and their diversity shows up in many ways. Some of these ways include: religion, race, socioeconomic status, lifestyle, and so on. Everyone’s backgrounds are different, and this is what creates diversity in people. Even though everyone might not be the same, only by uniting everyone can we create the big picture. It’s like a puzzle—even though people are different, we can come together to create a big picture that couldn’t be created by puzzle pieces of the same shape. To me, diversity symbolizes the unique backgrounds that we come from. Every individual in their communities and in their society are influenced by their background—and this can come from various reasons. If someone comes from a different socioeconomic background, or lifestyle, their thought processes and their view of life might be much more different than mine. Their reaction to a certain situation can be much more different than mine, and it is important for me to see all these viewpoints in order to be a more informed member of my community. Everyone is diverse in their expression, style, and
The real definition of diversity includes different elements of the identity and culture of each person. Diversity involves cultural differences, such as origins, religious or political affiliation, race, and gender, and other more profound differences, such as experiences and personality. As Banks argues in her research, the real definition involves several elements of our identity (149). Therefore, the way in which we define and conceptualize diversity affects the way in which we interact with people of others culture, race, and affiliations.

One of the best definitions for diversity I have come across says, “Diversity is the mosaic of people who bring a variety of backgrounds, styles, perspectives, values, and beliefs as assets to the groups and organizations with which they interact ” (Rasmussen, 1996, p. 274). This definition has three noteworthy points. First, it describes diversity as a mosaic, which is different form the traditional label of a melting pot. A mosaic enables people to retain their individuality while contributing collectively to the bigger picture. Second, this definition of diversity applies to and includes everyone; it does not rule out anyone. According to this definition, we are all diverse. Finally, this definition describes diversity as an asset, as something desirable and beneficial! When viewed from this perspective valuing diversity is openness, fun, and can even be a cause for celebrating in discovering how we can join together to create more as a united team than any one of us can on our own. It is vital to business survival that the workplaces strive to attain this ideal collaboration.
Traditionally, diversity refers to an assortment of races, ethnicities, genders, ages, disabilities and perhaps sexual orientations. A definition of diversity, however, should not be constrained by traditional categories such as these. Such a definition should also include categories such as religion, educational level, life experience, geographic location, socio-economic background, marital status and work experience. Indeed, each person employed by a company possesses unique qualities that encompass many factors.
The Importance Of Differences Today’s society forces people to think, act, and dress a certain way, but there is always someone out there that doesn’t follow what the majority of the people are doing in the society. A friend once told me to never let someone change your thoughts or opinions on something you truly believe in. There are misfits all over the world hoping they’ll fit in and express their own thoughts without someone judging them. Think about the people you interact with daily, for example, your classmates, co-workers, or just people in general. Isn’t there always one person that seems a little out of place?
Diversity is a notion, when applied to the majority of circumstances, can create a positive conclusion. The trick to producing a positive outcome is often how the different aspects are brought together. Consider a classic dinner combination peas and carrots, the two colors look appealing and the two flavors comes together as one making a superb side dish. Now consider oil and water, these two substance are not often considered a good combination. Although, this is not always the case; olive oil and vinegar (which is water based) when mixed, come together into a delectable salad dressing. Diversity and inclusion should also apply to humans by bringing people together who are different it can creates a whole that is enhanced by the uniqueness of each individual.
Being normal in one culture or society may not be normal in another; it is problematic to draw of what is normal and abnormal by reason of the different types of cultures and societies. In addition, who would have the final right to draw the line in a certain area. Cultures are extremely diverse it would be almost impossible to have a culture/their beliefs to agree on cultural norms. It is tough to determine which category items should be in, due to there are a variety of different beliefs. If society had a standard culture, we could determine what goes in each of these two categories. However, it is believed that having differences could be a beneficial for each
