The first time I began reading was when I was in first grade. But the first time I actually enjoyed reading books was when I was in middle school. In sixth and seventh grade, I started to read more books than I did before, but I did not take pleasure in it as much and just read because it was mandatory to read a certain amount and type of books for classes. It was between the end of eighth grade and the beginning of the summer was I really started to enjoy reading books. From then on, my interest in reading increased dramatically beginning high school and up until now, in college, I still love reading books. The types of reading techniques I do are intensive reading and extensive reading. I mainly do extensive reading since I prefer to read for enjoyment rather than doing intensive reading and understanding what it means in …show more content…
I love reading book a lot since it allows me to learn and something escape reality to relax. The first time I actually enjoyed reading was the beginning of summer before the start of high school in the fall. What led to that event started near the end of eighth grade when I was looking at the vast shelves of books at the back of my Language Arts classroom. There were so many books to choose from but the one that caught my eye was a book titled The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. I read the first few pages of the book and become deeply interested in the story. I temporarily stopped reading it because it was near the end of the school year and I want to be able to read this book thoroughly in the summer. The main reason I did read this particular book because I could relate to the character, which I did not, but because it was how the story was written that captivated me. The books I have read by various author did not have the incomparable skill of writing as to the author, Rick Riordan. It was the way that Riordan wrote that book made the story interesting and enjoyable to
Fans of the novel found that the way the novel is written, you never want to put it down and the action keeps things moving and is quite entertaining. The novel pulls you in and makes you love each of the main characters in it. This is a great series for anyone to read, and it is audience friendly for whoever reads them. There is quite a bit of suspense that will make the novel exceed readers 's expectations, and the twists and turns keeps you guessing and lets nothing be predictable. Some like the way this group of people bands together when they really need to and keep things together so they can all stop the
My parents have always stressed the importance of reading. Throughout my whole life, they have motivated me to read and they have encouraged me to find books that I find interesting to read. Because of their encouragement, I am an avid reader today. When I was a child, just starting to enjoy reading I liked to read books that were fiction. Some of my favorite books to read as a child are series that I still love today and I think I still have every book in each series stored in my attic. They are The Boxcar Children, Junie B. Jones, and The Magic Tree House.
I think that overall the book was an amazing book. It drew me in the entire time and I could not put it down because of that. If any part started to get boring something insane would happen to make it interesting. For example in one part of the book it starts to get a little bit slow because it just talks about search methods a group of Bzrk members were using. Then suddenly a fake swat team busts into the house and kills everyone inside besides one child who ends killing almost all of the fake swat team. Another example was that a girl was sitting on the beach counting and kept counting for a while. Then suddenly she gets kidnapped and brought aboard a ship that is full of crazy people. Those are just some the things that happen throughout the book that keep interested on every page.
What I liked about the book was the mystery. I loved not knowing what was going to happen next, and having to figure out the story. It was very unpredictable, though at times it became confusing. I could defiantly imagine myself in the book. There was heaps of different mysteries being solved, and it made the end very dramatic. It was great, I could not stop reading! The book was great, even though I do not usually read this type of books. It was very interesting and I really enjoyed it. The author did a great job.
Instead of mom reading children’s books to me, I read them to her. And if I stumbled upon something I didn’t know or understand, mom helped me out! Soon enough I started reading to her without stuttering of not knowing how to say a word. I started being able to sound out words easier and my fluency became much better than before. First grade came around and I started reading bigger books such as Junie B. Jones and also the Magic Treehouse books. Books became easier to read as I aged and the books I read were getting bigger and bigger. In 5th and 6th grade I read The Red Pyramid, The Throne of Fire, and The Serpents Shadow, a trilogy called The Kane Chronicles written by Rick Riordan. I thought these three books were the greatest three books ever written! I even thought they were better than the hunger games! Especially with the series being based around Egyptian gods and theology, and also managed to tie in kids around my age that I could relate to. Those books made me love reading more than I ever have and I would read them again if I had the time to. Once 8th grade came out along I decided to read a “big boy” book: DaVinci Code by Dan Brown. I thought I was so cool because I was reading a book that my parents have read. It has been the best book I have yet to read so far because it sparked my interest from the first sentence, to the last, there was intense suspense throughout the whole book and I could nonstop
In the past I did not enjoy reading because I never wanted to ever sit down and take the time to read and think about what the author was actually trying to say. I was never really taught how to evaluate and solve the authors mysteries until this semester. Until now I never knew to pay attention to the figurative language, style, and structure because those can really express hidden things about the author. Now that I know how too, I enjoy reading a lot more. I plan on reading more in the future.
I really enjoied this book. Fantasy and adventure are my favorite genres to read and this book did not let up. The only problem I had with this book was the author’s writing style. Green often jumped from past and present on a whim, making it hard to track what in going on at which part of Nathan’s life. She also changes perspectives a lot from first person to second person a lot. These two constant changes makes the story confusing. I spent a bit too much time trying to figure everything out instead of enjoying the story
I read voraciously as a child. I grew up in a college town and spent my summers in Middlebury, Vt, where my father taught summer school. That meant I was surrounded by libraries and by people who love to read and discuss literature. During the Vermont summers, one of my favorite places was Middlebury College's rare books room where I read first-edition Louisa May Alcott novels.
Beginning in kindergarten, was when I first fell in love with reading and writing. When I was in kindergarten I remember bringing home a ton of books to read to my parents and one book in particular was my favorite story and that was the story, “The Corduroy Bear.” I probably read that book a hundred times because I loved it so much. I read so many books in kindergarten that, I soon became interested in writing too. In my stories I would write
In high school for English class I did read a few books that actually held my interest but not enough to make me go out to Barnes and Noble and start buying books; however, it did make me realize that maybe I just needed to find stories and subject matters that I found interesting. The only problem with that was I did not know exactly which types of books I would like and I did not even know where to begin
At several places in the book, I felt that certain things are unnecessary explained. The author took a long time to evolve the plot and actual storyline. I have to drag myself from page to page in the initial chapters of the book because of the slow pace of the story. Though the choice of words was interesting in the start, the poor sentence structure ruined the effect of good vocabulary. Interactions between the characters were dull and instead of entertaining, they only served to aggravate the reader.
I also remember as young girl learning how to read and my favorite book that I could quote word for word was “Green Eggs and Ham” by Dr.Suess. I loved that book so much I still have that today. As I got older my love for reading and books started to diminish, I went to a private school for my elementary years and their curriculum was very intense. It was required to read a book from their approved list and complete a book report each summer before the school year began. Not to mention the numerous books reports I would have to complete during the school. At an early age books and reading was something I had to do and not what I wanted to do.
My first reason on why you should read this book is that it has many twists, and turns. This book has so many twists and surprises. These twists and turns affect the story quite a lot. An example of a twist in the book is when Amir decides to
Montgomery, Martin, et al. Ways of Reading. Advanced Reading Skills for Students of English Literature. 2nd ed. London: Routledge, 2000. 161-171.
Reading was never something I fussed about growing up. As a child, I loved genres of realistic fiction. I was hooked on The New Adventures of Mary Kate and Ashley, Goosebumps, The Amazing Days of Abby Hayes, Judy Moody, and especially, Zoobooks and Highlights magazines. My mother was always ready to help build my reading and writing skills. She took me to the library constantly to feed my passion for books and knowledge. I loved exploring the shelfs, organizing the books, and filling up my library cart. I tried keeping a diary in elementary school to keep track of my outings with my parents and grandparents to museums, zoos, movies, and libraries. This flash of writing enthusiasm was spun from books I read in the 4th and 5th grade that were
