“All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them,” said Walter Disney. College is the beginning of some people’s dreams. With that being said, I am going to Iowa State to pursue my dreams and start my journey. However, it is very expensive since I am out- of-state and I want to participate in many organizations. I believe I should get this scholarship because of my diversity in activities, work ethic with jobs, and zeal towards volunteering. First, I have been in many different activities in my high school career. I loved the arts and joined choir. I was in three, elite, extra-curricular choirs which were Choraliers, Women’s Select, and Chamber singers. Music has been a passion of mine which introduced me to theatre. I …show more content…
Every now and then, I would help with being a receptionist when someone had the day off or filled out information documents for new and traded vehicles. It was a great experience because it taught me more about dealerships and the background documentation that is associated with selling, buying, or trading a car. My last job involved helping the accounting department at Hartfiel Automation, which does manufacturing and consulting. The past two years, I helped the managers clean out the contact lists and merge pre-existing files, the receptionist by answering phones for an hour or two a day, and the accounts payable send out checks and entering invoices on their side, the accounts receivable enter invoices into the shipping and receivable side, and value added department assembling parts. Jobs are a great experience to learn hard work and dedication to show up on time every day, and they are a great way to build character. Lastly, I have always loved volunteering and the feeling of helping others. I regularly help out with national, or world, organizations as well as the local ones. I participated in packaging food for Feed my Starving Children and assisting kids picking out new bikes for Bikes 4
Last summer, I worked at a car dealership in my hometown as a cashier and receptionist. I was responsible for processing large payments, handling both the physical paperwork and the digital orders in our dealer management software. On the reverse side, I worked at Five Guys in a very team-oriented environment. Everyone had their own part to play, but our successes were ultimately a result of how well we worked as a team. This job also taught me how to juggle multiple responsibilities, as we were frequently understaffed and had to jump between positions.
Within school, I have participated in Glee Club/Chorus and Drama Club. I have a strong interest and love of both and hope to continue with them in the future. Last year, I had the privilege of being selected for our school's select choir, North Naturals. The Congregation Sons of Israel in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania honored us with the chance to perform at their annual Holocaust Memorial Service. The Messiah College Women's Choir also invited us to perform as a guest in their annual spring concert, in which I performed a solo, along with some members of the Women's Chorus. This year, I consider it a great prestige to say I participate in my school's select choir for ninth- and tenth-graders- Cantamos. In Drama Club, I have performed a variety
I, Hope Turnbull, am a Senior of Stockton High School in Stockton Kansas. My plans consist of attending North Central Kansas Technical College starting Fall 2016, where I want to begin my study of nursing. Due to me having all of my general education courses finished upon my college arrival, I have been accepted into the first year Nursing Program (LPN). I believe that I deserve this scholarship due to me excelling in my education at a very young age. My grades are earned as A’s and B’s in school.
I was raised to do my best to help others whenever I saw the opportunity, such as from acting like a personal chiropractor for my friends and family or raising $5,000 for charity. I found something that I really enjoyed; I was doing things for others that benefited them and not me. I knew what I enjoyed; the issue was finding a career that I could provide a service to others and enjoy. Considering many careers, from joining the military to becoming a psychiatrist, I decided to pursue Occupational Therapy.
Volunteering as food server at the ICNA Soup Kitchen has greatly changed my life. Basically what I did was package lunches into boxes, serve them, and clean tables. I love making a difference in my community, which is the main reason I have chosen to pursue a career as a physician. When I was serving the food to the needy, it greatly boosted my self-esteem as a person. I love representing my religion, Islam, and my race, African-American, in front of the world.
Without a doubt the most meaningful activity I have ever been involved in is 4-H. I have been a member of the Cheerful Champs 4-H club for almost ten years. When you join a 4-H club the members and leaders become your friends and family. 4-H’s mission is to provide a positive environment for kids to grow and succeed through. With such an environment 4-H hopes to give kids confidence and empower them to do whatever they hope to achieve. Empowerment turns kids into leaders and teachers. After being in 4-H so long you learn how to lead and teach the younger members of the club and others in the community. Through 4-H I have gained a family and many qualities that I will cherish for life.
After reading Benjamin Franklin's’ “The Ephemera: An Emblem of Human Life”, one could assume that he is making a mockery for how people live their lives. Franklin talks about the ephemera as wise bugs that live their lives to the fullest even though their lifespan is highly limited, which is why Franklin called them “ephemera”, meaning lasting but short-lived. Franklin states “Happy people! … you are certainly under a wise, just, and mild government, since you have no public grievances to complain of, nor any subject of contentions” (Franklin para. 2), which alludes to how the ephemera are living happily while all humans do is complain about political issues. The ephemera do not have to worry about their legacy; instead, they focus on a life well spent. In the passage Franklin states, “Art is long, and life is short!” (Franklin para. 2) comparing
I plan to graduate from College of the Sequoias with an Associate’s Degree in communications and to maintain a grade point average of at least a 3.7. Once I earn my degree, I will transfer to a university where I will begin to work on my master’s degree. With my master’s degree I can pursue my dream of working for Disney Parks in public relations. While I am still a college student, I will apply and hopefully be given the opportunity to participate in the Disney College Program as well as a Disney Professional Internship. These internships will help me to learn more about working in the field of communications, to gain practical experience and to network with individuals who can help me achieve my career goals. A scholarship would be incredibly helpful for me to achieve all that I intend to by allowing me to devote more time to my school work. Since I currently work two jobs, as a tutor and as a sales associate, it is often difficult to find time and energy to complete my schoolwork. If I were to earn a scholarship, it would allow me to work fewer hours a week so that I can focus more of my energy and time on my education. That way, I can get the best grades possible and have the best chance of success in my
As a young lady graduating from The Dalles Whatonka High School I think it’s important to be involved in as many activity’s as possible. Throughout my high school years I have been involved in many school activities and comities such as student government. I have always had an interest in athletics and played sports. These leadership and athletic roles have tough me skills that will last me a lifetime.
Music has always been an important part of my life. During high school I have developed areas of service and leadership through interests in children and gardening, which will continue to be major parts of my life.
As a child I did not know a lot about college. None of the adults in my life had been to College, my family did not talk about it, and it seemed like a distant land that I heard about only in movies and on Television. I was first introduced to college when my third grade class took a field trip to Iowa State University, clearly a much needed field trip considering my lack of exposure to higher education. I was immediately amazed by the grand architecture and massive buildings. I had never seen anything like a University campus before. The few things that I remember about the trip were that everything was big, the college students played with us, and we got to swim in the pool. While the larger purpose of the field trip may have been lost to my childhood excitement of getting to swim in a big pool, the field trip did mark the beginning of my knowledge of higher education and from then on I always viewed it as something that I would be a part of eventually, even if it did seem like a very distant future at age eight. As I grew older I developed other reasons for wanting to attend colle...
The career that I chose was Performing Arts, more specifically, Musical Theatre. I would perform as a singer, dancer as well as an actress, gaining the title of a performer. My career in a small view is performing different plays and musicals for people and making everyone happy. I chose this career, because I love performing and I’ve always done some form of it through elementary school until now. I had always enjoyed singing and playing music, but when I performed in front of the student body in Play Production II, everything changed. I had learned that I loved acting and singing the same amount. I decided, if I could do one thing, I would perform in some sort of musical. It is important to understand
Over the course of my life, I have dedicated many hours helping others. At a very young age, I wanted to make a difference in the world, not only in the sciences, but also in the lives of the less fortunate. My grandmother ran a Habitat for Humanity restore in South Carolina, so every time I visited her, I spent long days unloading donations, working the cash register, talking to perspective home owners, and delivering lunch to workers on jobsites. I loved every minute
A global citizen is that who is willing to use its voice and knowledge to make a change. No one would ever be able to make a change in just one day, it is something that takes time and devotion. I’m really interested in diversity and I’m seeking to what is my role is as a world citizen. The fact that I’m searching for an international education is the proof of my desire to establish myself as a global citizen and my interest in the world issues.
My high school days have been spent at a STEM-focused school, where I have worked to get my associate's degree alongside my high school diploma. Struggling my hardest to succeed, I’ve given up many extracurricular activities and have lost a lot of sleep. Though these losses may seem heavy at times, I’ve learned a lot through my high school experience. For instance, I've learned that my passions are encompassed majorly in fine arts. Music, the first of my fine art interests to develop, is a big part of my life. I have been learning the piano since I was little and later added violin to the mix. Emerging from seemingly nowhere, my passion for musical theatre emerged two years later, resulting in my immediate fascination with all things Broadway.
