Money, success, and status are the basis of most goals for the youth of today, which you know from all the applications you read for these scholarships. For me though, my goals are geared towards others, especially because I want to go into the field of medicine, a topic dedicated to selflessness and aiding those in need. My interest began when I was first accepted into my prestigious, application based, magnet high school. This school has a dedicated faculty and curriculum oriented towards healthcare allowing me to be exposed to the knowledge and experience that shape a physician. Thankfully my school provides courses such as Medical Terminology along with training in CPR, First Aid and an anticipated EMT certification. Moreover, in the next semester of my senior year, I will be interning at a local hospital where I will rotate between four departments in order to gain exposure and a better understanding of what specialty I will pursue. I have always valued school, grades, and excellence because this is the best foundation for a successful future. Therefore, I devote myself to academia and it will be no exception when I attend college. Currently, I am applying to various honor and pre-medical programs to further my education with well-acclaimed professors to challenge myself. …show more content…
With this degree, I hope to open up my own practice where anyone is welcome no matter their race, ethnicity, gender, sexual preference, age, or financial status. Everyone and I mean everyone deserves proper health care. There are too many stories where people are denied care because of this aforementioned list. However, I have a dream to eliminate this, one facility at a time. In order to reach this goal, I will work with friends and colleagues that I acquired and met during my education experience. I want to find others with similar goals like my own, so we can share this love with the nation and hopefully the
Annette Dula would suggest that the need for dialogue with African Americans should be recognized as a serious bioethical problem. I would suggest that health care providers should have a different dialogue to get a better understanding of their patients. I agree with the three health disparities: institutional racism, economic equality, and attitudinal barriers to access. Having language signs so that staff can identify language preferences to obtain the appropriate language services. Your practice should have basic instructions for patients to follow.
Health care providers not knowing their surrounding community impacts the way they provide health care to a patient. I hope to use my background in community work with underrepresented populations and the qualities I gained to hopefully reduce and someday diminish the concern that health care isn’t keeping up with the demographics of the surrounding community. The third health care concern I will talk about is another near and dear to me which is the severely low quality health care women in developing countries receive.
As a student that is currently seeking a career in the medical professions, I have had to routinely contemplate my reasons for pursuing such an extensive education program in a field that is constantly demanding excessive time and effort. I know of students—many friends and acquaintances of mine included—that have the most sure-fire, inspirational stories that align with their desire to become doctors, surgeons, physician assistants, etc. They always seemed to have a story that emphasized their desire to “give back” what they have received from the medical community. Because of that, ever since the beginning of high school, I have been trying to find an extraordinary reason, a purpose for my medical pursuits. Perhaps I could justify my passion for
Presently, my extracurricular and academic interests are combined in my two year Health Science class. The class provides real-life medical situations that I may come in contact with in the future. Like any health science class, we study the body, in both its’ functional and dysfunctional state. This survey class also includes an introduction to equipment, medical protocol, and ethical issues. A sense of teamwork guides our procedures. Next semester, I will study at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Ramstein High School’s Career Practicum program. After initial on-the-job application of classroom learning, we will work with patients, supervised by the hospital staff. Living so close to a hospital that services thousands of seriously injured patients every year provides opportunities that other students lack, even in their college programs.
My lifetime goal is helping others and I plan to use my career to fulfill it. The classes I’m taking right now and the ones I’m planning to take senior year are classes I believe will influence my decision in my college major/career as well as counting toward my GPA. This will help me get into schools who have medical programs that I’m considering. Also, taking AP classes can help me save money since I can earn college credit. I’m taking all AP classes, and the electives I’m taking have been classes that have helped me consider being in the medical field. I’ve found that over the years, science and math are what I’m doing better in versus history and english. I believe by being in the medical field, I can help others in the best way I can.
My perseverance has prepared me for a career in medicine. The path towards becoming a physician can be long and challenging, necessitating the ability to endure. My ability to bounce back from setbacks and mistakes has solidified throughout my journey. One of the cornerstone experiences of my personal development occurred during high school. My determination led to me my graduating as valedictorian of my class, while balancing three varsity sports and several extracurricular activities. In addition, I worked on weekends to help support my family financially. This persistence resulted in scholarship awards that made higher education a possibility.
I know that through my hard work and dedication I can make my goals a reality. However, it may not be possible without these Scholarships. While my parents will help me in any way they can, I am hoping that my hard work and dedication to my studies pays off. I am a very self-driven individual who will accomplish any goal I set my mind on achieving. I am also aware of how without scholarships I may face a financial setback. I am hoping that through the help of scholarships I will be able to achieve all my goals in a timely
...ntralizing and taking a holistic approach towards health for underserved communities, could lead to improved show rates, as well as, knowledge and communication between patient and health care providers. Especially in under marginalized communities, where advocacy and resources are lacking and needed the most, the manner in which health officials effectively educate and provide the resources to these communities need to be strategically assessed to translate scientific research into practice. With the value and importance of public health increasing, I desire to address the social determinants of health to reduce health disparities through utilization of technology and partnerships with community organizers. Thus, I believe a degree from Oregon State will be an excellent opportunity for me to merge my skills, backgrounds, and passions, turning a vision into reality.
I have desired to be in the medical field since my freshman year of school. Like a classic stereotype I wanted to go into the medical field after watching too much television, in particular Grey’s Anatomy. It was not the drama or love affairs that drew me into the profession but the adrenaline on a surgery coming in. The skills which they possessed to save a person’s life, and the relief of the family when the doctor was able to tell them that their loved one was going to be alright. Yes, I do aspire to go into surgery, specializing in either trauma or general. This goal is achievable, but it will take many years in college and medical school then residency. This scholarship, the Anderson Hospital Auxiliary
Healthcare is intriguing. The health and wellness of people always has been intriguing and always will be. My background in healthcare came as an environmental pass down with a father as a Registered Nurse and a mother in healthcare management. It was inevitable that the journey of healthcare started being instilled without my knowledge of it, as a young child. A constant learning in the health sciences and management directed my way. By the start of college, the intrigue lead to compassion, lighting a fire for the administration of healthcare. This calling spurred by a great woman, my mother, who is a national redesign award winner by the Bureau of Primary Healthcare in Health Disparities. These footsteps down her similar path with careful guidance, but not to be confused with an easy path.

My academic goals are to maintain getting good grades in high school and college, join the Honors Program, be involved in study groups, and to continue being a good student. While I am in college, I do want to be in hospital volunteer programs or be involved in internships. Since I am aiming to be a Cardiologist, my other goal in College is join a premedical study program. Health Professions High School is helping me have lots of exposure to the medical field. So far, I have been accepted to UC Davis Programs in Health Care and right now I am currently in a job shadow program at UC Davis Pathways. Continuing my academic goals will make me more successful by being more highly committed to the career that I want to pursue.
I started the long road to getting where I want to be by making sure I am taking the correct classes in high school. My school offers many classes that will help me in this career. I’m working on my second year of English and Mathematics. I’ve also taken Biology and a Technology class. Other than the skills that are taught to you in school, there are many special skills that can’t particularly be taught to you. These skills include observation, decision making, data-analysis, communication, and critical-thinking. There are only a few more classes that I need to take before I’m college ready. Durant High School’s requirements for graduation cover all the classes that I will have needed to take to get into this career. I am currently looking into, and applying to, multiple colleges. The University of Denver and Oklahoma State University are a couple of colleges that have certificates for agricultural engineering. Once I go to college, I will need to achieve a Bachelor’s degree. I’m not positive if I will need a higher certificate, because I want to work with medicine, yet.
Although I have great goals to help people, my grand wish cannot be granted without a great amount of effort on my part. I decided to take part in activities that would help me reach my goals and to ready myself for that field of work. My extracurricular activities and my electives showed proof of my interest in the medical field over time. I made an extra effort to look for activities and classes that could help me on the way to becoming a doctor. My first step was
This identity memo is only a snapshot. My intent is to reflect on where I am currently and on where I am heading. Herein I will briefly focus on some of my values and how it relates to education within my family and my culture. I will also shed light on my goals and what led me to pursue this MPH degree and if there were changes along the way. Next, I will reflect on how my health and family influence my assumptions about public health, and my overall assumptions about people, health, and health care utilization.
