Background Information I have always been both enthusiastic and passionately interested in science, particularly research in biomedicine. I find science to be rather admirable, in how it can fascinate one’s curiosities and provide reasoning behind them; and ultimately help mankind. Having completed a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences, accredited by the IBMS, I wish to pursue a career in biomedical science. One thing which I particularly enjoy about the practical side of science is the methodical and organised nature involved.
In addition, the Foundation course I am currently attending is a way of, not only developing my critical thinking skills, but also gaining and consolidating knowledge that I have not yet acquired from my previous studies. The fact that Biomedical Science uses laboratory skills, which I very much enjoy, with a deep study of all aspects of the human body and the organisms that influence it, made this course an obvious choice for me.
Almost every scientist has a formative moment at the beginning of their career that gets them hooked to research. For me, this moment came as I looked through a microscope and noticed the open neural tubes of embryos I had genetically manipulated. I had identified an uncharacterized, disease-related gene and showed its role in the formation of cilia as well as neural tube closure. This was the first time in my undergrad I felt the exhilaration of first-hand discovery, and from this moment forward, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in research. Complementing my passion for research is a strong appreciation for medicine and its clinical implementation, which together have led me to consider pursuing an MD/PhD. These two degrees will allow me to take a multifaceted approach to both medicine and basic science research - applying an advanced understanding of human physiology and interpersonal care to the
My desire of studying biomedical sciences stems from my sciences interest, as it demonstrates a world not visible to the naked eye, plays a big role in everyday life. science specifically biology and chemistry are stimulating and challenging subjects , over the years of studying them ,my interest has increased because learning things about how our bodies function and how it relates to god’s creation is particularly interesting for me. I also find it very important because I’m Muslim. The biomedical science degree will open for me the door to learn more about the vast field of biology and its branches to a greater depth. I developed my knowledge in the science field by taking support classes in the lab at school; I was fascinated by how the body can function in different circumstances and the complexity of DNA, different organisms, chemical reactions, and also very importantly the mathematical aspect which gives me the chance to develop and use my logic and it inform me to new ways of looking at given problems.
My goal is to obtain at least a master’s degree in one of the biological sciences. I intend to perform well in college, just as I have in high school through dedication and efficient time use. In order to obtain a career in research, I will need job experience. I intend to obtain this experience by working in internships while in college and taking advantage of any opportunities to gain experience in my field. The higher degree in science that I strive for will allow me to obtain a satisfying and influential career in biological research.
The biochemistry major has provided me with essential knowledge of professionalism and cautiousness in a medical work space. Working in a hospital requires meticulousness to avoid mistakes that could affect both patients and public safety. My experience in lab settings has proven how vital it is to be detail oriented, especially when dealing with toxic chemicals. These experiences enable me to be well adapted to a health orientated setting. To be given the opportunity of joining the MCEP, I will truly feel and experience what it’ll be like for myself in the future after college. I strongly believe that a program dedicated to building a foundation for future physicians and nurses to become well adapted beforehand, is a great place for me to start to achieve my forthcoming medical career
I believe that my attending SIMR will be one of the most important stepping-stones for me to achieve my goals in the field of medicine. While I do have the basic lab knowledge one would need to attend SIMR, The knowledge I will gain by being mentored by world-class scientists will set me apart and imbue me with the skills I need to succeed in my chose career in the biomedical field. Honing both the creative and analytical skills, learning the proper methods of experimentation and investigation, and experiencing the unique atmosphere of being among the future pioneers of the medical field are all things that will define my career in the field I have been infatuated with for years. Following my introduction to biotechnology, I was enamored by
I am Fasiha Abdul Rehman, holding a professional degree of Doctor of Pharmacy at 23 years of age; with a deeper interest in contributing to the understanding of diabetes and cardiovascular diseases and unveiling new information for medical advancement and betterment of mankind and I envisage Masters as crucial step in this direction.
For as long as I can remember, I have been extremely passionate about the sciences. Whilst studying the sciences separately at GCSE, I developed an affinity towards biology and chemistry, and so chose to continue studying them at A Level. I became especially fascinated by the fact that the human body is made up almost entirely of chemical elements. These chemical elements form the genome and control every aspect of every living organism and by forming different sequences of elements and different bonds, unique molecules such as antibodies and proteins can be produced as a first line of defense for the organism. After trying to decide between biology and chemistry as separate subjects, I chose to pursue biochemistry as it combines my favourite
Ever since my freshman year of high school, I thought I would pursue a career in the medical field. I enjoyed taking science classes, I was smart enough to understand and excel in those subject, and I knew I could make good money in that field. When I went to college, I quickly became a biology major without a second thought. During my first year in college I realized there are many other options and subjects that I enjoyed, specifically music and dancing. I took piano lessons and competed in gymnastics from the age of four years until my senior year of high school.
As a future medical laboratory scientist I understand that the medical field is a complex and unpredictable career. Studying medicine is a career that offers increased rewards based upon experience and ability.
