I have thought for a long time on what I wanted to pursue for a career. I thought I wanted to do one thing, but later decided I didn’t know if it was really for me. I had thought about pursuing a wide range of careers a while ago, but when I think about what I wanted to do in the past I have no desire to do any of those now. I now am positive I want to go into the major of criminal justice, preferably law enforcement. One of the jobs I am extremely interested in, and want to learn more about is a highway patrol officer. There are a lot of tasks the job entails that make me want to know a little more about it. Hopefully this is the job for me because as of now I think I want it. I also am going to go after it, and make sure I am qualified for whichever job I do apply for.
Law enforcement has its vast variety of jobs, all of which are exciting and new every single day. You always have to be prepared for anything to happen. That’s why I would to test myself in the field of law enforcement.

To recount this information accurately, state troopers are trained to record all information about an arrest right after the arrest is made. Testimony in front of a grand jury is also common. They must notify suspects of their legal rights and follow all laws and procedures. State troopers may also stop and frisk suspects to determine if they have anything dangerous or illegal on their person, as well as search and seize property of a suspect if they have acquired a warrant. I was born to a mother name Kellie Edith .I lived in Akron Ohio my whole life. My mom always told me and my sibling’s education was importance to have if you want to be successful. Although my Father wasn’t around, I never wanted for anything. My mom made sure of that. That’s why I love her, she was always independent. For years I have prayed that God will find a way to put my missing pieces together. My parents tried to convince me to go to anger management for my behavior. I decided to go to Job Corps to better myself. My mother’s favor quotes to her kids was key to success is knowing that failing doesn’t make you a failure, so my child pickup your shoulder, never look back. I hold it in my mind all the time. My favorite movies are Love & Basketball, Beyond the Light. My favorite color is blue. My hobbies are basketball, playing video games.
Why do I want to be an area officer? While these words are not exactly the same as previous essay prompts I have been given, they all share the same idea; “Why do I want to be a leader”? Looking back at my old responses they are all focused on similar concepts; I wanted to be a leader because of the friendships, traveling and meeting new people, building better leadership skills, learning how to better communicate with people, and acquiring life skills, such as patience, teamwork, organization, and dedication. While all of these things have some importance, they should never be the reason someone wants to be a leader. When I wrote these I thinking about how to better myself, rather than how to help others. I was thinking selfishly. At the time I didn’t know what it truly meant to be a leader, to be willing to sacrifice myself for others. Even while I am still young and have much to learn, I finally understand why I want to be a leader and what a true leader should look like. I would like the opportunity to serve as a 2014-2015 Area Officer, so that I can better serve the FFA, my fellow members, and ultimately my world.
Finding your calling in life can be one of the hardest things to do, for some it is obvious from a young age on what you want to do. For example, my mom has gone on a spree of jobs in her life and she has only recently found something that she actually wants to do. My dad on the other hand knew from a young age what he wanted to do, he liked to tinker and straight after he got out of highschool he knew that he wanted to be a mechanic, and he has stuck with that career path for more than 30 years now. I am currently undecided on what I want to do for the rest of my life, however one of the careers that I am looking at is a law enforcement officer.

My interest in law enforcement grew in me at a young age probably around the age of 8. I would always watch the show Cops and that got me really interested. It was not until the age of 10 that I said to myself that I wanted to be a police officer or something in that field. During my years in junior high one of the officers who worked there told me about a program called police explorers, once he explained the program to me I knew that that was what I wanted to do: police work. A week after I turned fourteen I decided to join the Costa Mesa Police explorer program, in order to get I accepted to the program I had to attend four consecutive meetings and on my fourth meeting I was given an application the following week I was interviewed by four police officer; it was scary. This program has taught me many lessons such as responsibility, respect, integrity and many other qualities that one must have to be considered eligible for police work.

These officers handle the coverage over an entire state and are only restricted to the state lines. Because of their vast area of jurisdiction they tend to focus on the larger areas and higher level crimes. At this level the majority of their day to day patrols are consisted of monitoring the state highways. However, it is also at this level where the more “high profile” cases are handled. The state level generally establishes branches of officers to handle specific areas of law enforcement within their state, i.e. gangs, drugs, homicides.

Most police and detectives work or the local government but others work for the state or federal government. Police work can be physically demanding, stressful, and dangerous. If you’re a police officer you have to be alert and ready to react throughout your entire shift, which can be many long hours. This job has one of the highest rates of injury of all occupations. Paid overtime is very common but usually they work full time.
Seventy percent of all jobs requires education or technical training beyond high school. In order to determine a possible career choice for the future. Research has been conducted to compare and contrast two different careers. Even though a Police Officer and a Waitress have similarities, they also have differences and deciding which is most suitable maybe a difficult choice. A career as a Police and Detectives requires hard work, but the career offers many rewards.
What should we do in life? That always seems to be the question. Life is not guaranteed to be easy, never turning out the exact way that we want it to. A lot of people work hard to achieve their dreams of making a massive amount of money and having more than a seven percent return on their 401k plan. Truth is, life is not about the amount of money that we have saved up, it is about what we do to make a difference and how we will make our lifetime worth it. Something that people should set into place is a plan for their future. A plan that would help not only directs their path in life, but the paths of those around them too.

It has always been my dream to become an officer in the military ever since I was young. My uncle was in the military and loved it, he always told me stories about it and how much he enjoyed it. Growing up hearing his stories and seeing his uniform made me want to do it one day. Well, for me that one day is here now and I am proud to put on that uniform and call myself a soldier. I have always been a leader in my family, my community, and in my life in general. I like to not just be in charge but, I like to inspire those around me. I enjoy setting the example for those around me to follow.
