Law Enforcement Career Essay

Law Enforcement I chose the career of becoming a law enforcement officer. I chose this career because my mother was a sheriff, an undercover narcotics agent, and an accident reconstructionist. Her ex-husband was a K-9 police officer. I grew up in a law enforcement family. Law enforcement was always an interest to me because my mom was always able to get bad guys off the street and I want to follow in her footsteps and keep the legacy alive. The duties of a uniformed police officer are to; enforce laws, respond to emergency and non- emergency calls. Thy conduct traffic stops, issue citations, obtain warrants, arrest suspects, and write reports. Detectives and criminal investigators; investigate crimes, collect and secure evidence from crime

Some police departments require some college courses or even a college degree. If you know a foreign language that is a plus, it can open new doors for you in the agency. Important qualities for a police officer would be good communication skills, empathy, good judgment, leadership skills, perceptiveness, physical stamina, and physical strength. Some of the most important skills officers would be, good communication, physical strength, and good judgment. Without those three skills an officer is less likely to get the right bad guy and put the wrong person in jail. They need good communication to get the whole story from every witness and suspects. The median pay for detectives and criminal investigators are about $74,000, police and sheriffs average pay is $55,000, transit and railroad police is about the same as regular police and sheriffs, and finally fish and game wardens make about $48,000. From 2012-2022 the employment of police and detectives is projected to grow 5%. There are not enough police officers, local and state budgets control the amount of police officers a city are able to have. Government spending is also a big factor on the amount of police officers on the
