Law Enforcement I chose the career of becoming a law enforcement officer. I chose this career because my mother was a sheriff, an undercover narcotics agent, and an accident reconstructionist. Her ex-husband was a K-9 police officer. I grew up in a law enforcement family. Law enforcement was always an interest to me because my mom was always able to get bad guys off the street and I want to follow in her footsteps and keep the legacy alive. A police officer, in our eyes, is someone who has authority and that we must respect. A police officer’s duty is to protect and serve their community. They also hold high standards for themselves. On Tuesday, September 23rd, I had the opportunity to do a ride along with the Takoma Park police department. My ride along was quite interesting. I rode with Officer Carl, a twenty-six-year-old officer who has been with the police department for six months.
