Since Barnard is a women's college, it will provide me with an experience unlike any other college will provide because of its rigorous courses, its fast paced location, and its affiliation and resources with another co-ed university. A Barnard student, is full of empowerment, independence and intelligence. Students are prepared to think creatively and speak persuasively, however, the college is not limited that. Barnard offers an abundant amount of experiences to it's students with over 80 different activities to an enriching study abroad program. Why do I want to go to Brophy? It is quite simple actually, I want to go to Brophy because I believe the school and staff will give me the best chances of achieving my goals in life. Also, I want to go because when I attended the school during a shadow day I felt that I belonged there and that my personality fit right into what the school expects and wants in its students. Finally, I want to go to Brophy because I do not think that there is another high school in Arizona that is quite like it, from the school’s athletics to its academics and staff. In this brief report, I will be examining common practices, policies and resources that support Black women attending Princeton University. Included is a brief review of national averages in regards to higher education attainment and a rationale for continued rhetoric on this topic. My interest in this topic stem from my experience at State University’s Women Studies Program. While the conversation around gender is necessary and crucial, little attention was given to discussions of how race and gender affect an individual’s lived experience. I was constantly aware of my lack of representation among students who were in those classes and the faculty who taught.
Colombo explains that “Beginning college can be disconcerting experience” (Colombo, p.1). That there will be more peer pressure from your peers and an increase expectations that you have never faced during your high school days. “In the dorms you may find yourself among people whose backgrounds make them seem foreign and unapproachable” (Colombo, p.1). Colombo also states “If you commute, you may be struggling against a feeling of isolation that you’ve never faced before” (Colombo, p. 1).
No matter the previous career path, preventive circumstances, prior academic history or lack of self-confidence, these colleges provide the tools for anyone to further their education. The common students at these facilities understand the importance of education because they’ve experienced the beast of life. One could argue that perhaps this understanding goes a bit deeper than that of one at a four year institution. Coming out of my senior high school was one of the most difficult tasks I 've been given up to this point in my life. I was overwhelmed, excited, sad, busy, and uncertain of the near impending future. The past 13 years of my life I had been studying, practicing, playing, and working my way towards a brighter future. I could see the future in front of me, it was as if I could reach out and touch it. It was almost like getting a shot at the doctors, I knew it was what was best for me but I was terrified anyway. But I pushed aside my fears and on August 8, 2015, I set foot on a college campus, my home for the next four years. I knew why I was there though; I came to college in order to channel the love I have for my country into the motivation necessary to take the next step up the ladder towards a constitutional law degree, a degree I’ll use to protect this country and the people who reside in it. But to truly understand why I came to college, I have to start at the beginning.
In “Choosing Success in College and Life”, Carol Kanar exposes students to the foundational skills that they will need to develop in order to be successful in the college setting. Effective interpersonal skills and understanding that people are the biggest resource can be two of the biggest factors in how a student assimilates to campus life. Students can be intimidated by all of the offices and professional titles that surround them when entering this new surrounding. It is important that students understand that their desire to succeed is met by college professionals’ mutual desire to see the same. The blueprint for this success should first begin with the students’ inner belief in themselves. Second, the student should familiarize themselves with all that the college has to offer by way of various supportive offices, support groups, and clubs. Finally, the students should begin to set scholastic, life, and financial goals for themselves.
According to the university’s mission statement, the institution values, ‘Accessible and affordable quality education that equips students with intellectual and professional skills, ethical principles, and an international perspective.’ They accomplish this message by using vivid pictures of the students interacting within the Charlotte area and with each other. This college also makes itself a top candidate for college by offering ninety competitive undergraduate majors which test the abilities and mental stamina of current and prospective students.
Why am I going to PCC? That’s because I want to get degree to get a job. However, I am not sure what I want to be in the future. Am I wasting my time in college? Hopefully not. I still have a couple terms to consider what I want to do. I feel lucky to be in the college in the U.S. If I were in japan and going to Japanese college, I would have had to decide the major before I go to college and take an entering exam which is really hard. On the other hand, college in the U.S. let students enter without deciding the major, and students still have time to think about the future with taking classes. It is interesting how different system we have in each country, yet I also have a demerit to attend college in not my country. That is extremely expensive

I am considered one of the first generation in my family to go to college, putting a lot of meaning behind why I believe I should go on to a different path. From a very young age I have always held high expectations of myself, even of the numerous changes in careers I had obtained an interest in. Noted authors, Brandon Chambers, is quoted saying, “If you are going to fear anything fear success. Think about what you are doing and when you succeed what life you will have.” There are several different reasons why I could stay home, work and not go to college; I could go to work every day and make more money for the house, it’s easier, and I would be less stressed. Now, on the other hand there are many reasons why I should go to school; such as further my education, make my family proud, and make myself proud. I am attending college for several different reasons. One reason is to further my education. I hate feeling like I don’t know something, I like being the person everyone comes to for information. Also, because I want to be better prepared for my major, I want to be better then the next person with the job credentials. I want to major in Social Work and Criminology. I dream to be a counselor or an clinical service social worker. I want to help people who need someone there for them someone who can guide them or even just talk too. Another reason is because I would be the first in I would be the first in my family to go to college. I feel in some type of way I am setting an example for my parents and my brother that they too can go back to school. Lastly is simply because I love school. I love knowing more and more each day. College is not for everyone, but I will be successful by grasping the benefits, preparing for the problems, taking heed from experts, and working on strategies to be successful.
Students in all male colleges are found to have more significant developments and growths than students in coed colleges are. Edith Simms, once an associate dean of student at Wabash College and then a director of admissions at the University of Virginia, interviewed 32 students, 23 faculties and 8 administrators from Hampden-Sydney College and Sweet Briar College to make a qualitative research. Simms also gathers documents including "admissions figures, graduation rates, first-year retention rates, choice of majors, and data from the National Survey of Student Engagement." (Simms) She then concludes that, "students in those single sex colleges are found even grow and develop from kids mentally matured people more significantly than those in coed colleges do. Moreover, most of the students in those single sex schools want to continue their study in such environment and enjoy being in their schools" (Simms). Taking time to volunteer at the many nonprofit organizations, homeless shelters, advocacy centers, philanthropic fundraisers, local schools and child care facilities in the inner city is not always at the forefront of young people’s minds while navigating through their college experiences. But, with a little push from student organizations, local nonprofits and passionate individuals, volunteerism and community change can start to take a front seat and become not just an opportunity, but also a priority in the lives of young people.
My prejudices remained intact up until the day of my scheduled campus visit, overnight stay, and interview on October 7-8, 2001. Stepping up to the door of the admissions office, many of my resolves all but dissolved, as I was kindly greeted by several groups of women who guided me through registration, campus tours, alumnae speeches, and a most excellent dinner, attended by the College President and a presentation of classical music played by four talented young women. I was absolutely enthralled by the beauty of the campus, and pleasantly taken aback by the size, cleanliness, and grandeur of the residence halls. Though these things did help to curtail much of my cynicism about the “all-women college”, I believe that the experience that really attracted me to Bryn Mawr began when my hostess picked me up in the admissions office.
Coming into Freshman year, most of the organizations I joined were due to my friends being in those organizations. These organizations would include: University Finance Association, University Securities Investment Team, and McCombs Diversity Council.
