Describe the factors or attributes you feel make you a deserving candidate for this award. I feel as though I am very deserving of this award because I have worked very hard to keep my grades where they are at right now. Also there is not that many scholarships for student who are not freshman or transfer student. If I were to transfer to UTA right now with my current grades I would get the automatic scholarship that transfer students get if they have a 3.5 GPA. I think I have made great academic progress in my time here a UTA, and am only going to continue to get better, for this reason I believe i am a deserving candidate for this award. Also my family makes just enough money to where I do not get to have any grant and I only get loans. …show more content…
While I was at Cleburne, I also joined a organization called Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA). While I was in HOSA, I teamed up with one other classmate and we did a community awareness project all year. We raised awareness of the growing epidemic of obesity in our country and specifically our county. We partnered up with Cook's Children in Fort Worth to work together to help spread awareness of childhood obesity. We did several healthy food drives to provide healthy foods for needy families in our area. We also went to all surrounding schools and put up posters promoting healthy foods to eat. I have received one scholarship while in college. That scholarship is the Marti Foundation Scholarship, it is specifically for student who graduated from a school in Johnson County and shows financial need, good community service, and great grades. This scholarship will greatly progress me towards my goal of getting my BSN her at UT Arlington but helping me out with books, housing, and start up fees that come with starting the BSN program such as, vaccines, shoes, scrubs, stethoscope, etc. Also this scholarship would help me tremendously with housing as I live over an hour away from UT Arlington. Living closer to campus will heighten my involvement on campus and give me more time to study to achieve
I also walked with the Purplestride.org fund raising to end Cancer. I volunteered my free time cooking and feeding the homeless around San Diego with friends and classmates while attending San Diego Continuous Education Program. After completing my nursing degree, I am looking forward to the opportunity to reach out to the multitude in the underserved community.
I believe that I am the best choice for the AVID Standout Award because I am a hard worker, a leader, and I give back to the community. I have always been a student that doesn't give up when they are struggling and wants to keep learning. I personally believe that a good education is the first priority of any human being because education has brought us where we are today in the world.
When candidates are competing for an award, a job, or an honor, they often use the qualities of their character as evidence as to why they deserve it. I certainly understand and believe in the necessity of qualifications; however, I have also always believed that having a plan of what one will do with a certain honor is an integral part of deserving it. That is why this essay is not about my previous accomplishments. This essay is a declaration of my ideas to serve as a representative of Seton Hill University by making the community, state, and country a better place for all.
If you do nothing, you change nothing. If selected as an honors student, I fully intend to draw on every opportunity available to me through the honors program such as study abroad, research, and internships. Having type one diabetes both motivates and fuels a passion to better communities I am involved with and work with dedication. I will contribute not only my time, but also my personal experiences and motivation to push for innovation and discovery in on-campus research in a variety of different research.
I, Hope Turnbull, am a Senior of Stockton High School in Stockton Kansas. My plans consist of attending North Central Kansas Technical College starting Fall 2016, where I want to begin my study of nursing. Due to me having all of my general education courses finished upon my college arrival, I have been accepted into the first year Nursing Program (LPN). I believe that I deserve this scholarship due to me excelling in my education at a very young age. My grades are earned as A’s and B’s in school.
The Pura Belpre Award is an award given to great Latino literature. There are many authors that have won this award. The pictures in this type of literature are very expressive and fun to look at. Also, the stories are very intriguing. It’s important for Latino children to be able to see themselves portrayed in the stories and be able to relate their way of life to those in the books. The Pura Belpre Award has opened up the doors for Latino authors to be recognized for their great books.
Honor is….hook. On October 9 2012, an honorable young girl fought for her rights and the rights of others, only to be met with a bullet to her head; this girl’s name is Malala Yousafzai. There are few people in the world with this much honor and good moral. Honor is shown when people act with integrity, taking matters into their own hands to make a good change in the world. Culture affects honor because it causes people to see the world through different aspects (views) , but people still stand up for what they believe in, whether it is on their lifestyle, education, or religion. While Seikei depicts honor by following the samurai code of conduct in Medieval Japan, Winston Churchill’s acts of optimism during the 20th century, and Malala’s courage to fight for what she believes in all the way in Pakistan display honor.
All of that time plus the time I am in class adds up to a lot. I know if I lived on campus I would be able to spend even more time in student activities and groups on campus. The most attractive part of the scholarship is the guaranteed job after graduation. This would make graduation a very easy process. I wouldn’t have a constant worry of my future.
Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare, is a play about an ongoing feud between two families, the Montagues and Capulets. The story takes place during the Renaissance in Verona, Italy. Towards the beginning of the play, Romeo, a Montague attends a Capulet’s party in disguise. Tybalt is infuriated when he hears Romeo’s voice and realizes that a Montague has snuck into the party. He goes to talk to Capulet about the situation, but Capulet tells Tybalt to remain calm and treat Romeo with respect. This passage shows how concerned Capulet is with appearances and how his family name is portrayed to others.
Our nomination goes to Ms. McCarty. We nominated her because she is a great teacher that always makes time to help her students with school or personal problems. She cares a lot for her students and tries to build a friendship with each and every one of them by helping them grow and develop according to their strengths. During class she encourages her student to be more open. To us she doesn't just meet the criteria of an amazing teacher, but also a great friend and role model that’s always there for us.
Driscoll is a clear proponent of this thought. She makes a valid point in mentioning that, “[f]amilies should also keep in mind that the closest school may not be the best choice for their student’s learning style.” She is emphasizing the point that geographic location aside, students should be looking for a college that will facilitate the best education for themselves. That school could be anywhere on Planet Earth. Fortenbury has a completely different outlook on the matter. He chose to emphasize that when push comes to shove, staying home for college can benefit students just as much as going away to college can. The benefits of going away to college can be facilitated, in part, at home. “I learned it just through having different jobs in different environments...we had a lot of different internships and clinical experiences...adapting to those was a challenge...if you go away, you’re forced to adapt a little quicker than if you live at home.” There is no dispute that both options open doors for students and provide quality educations. However, Driscoll believes that staying home can limit that opportunity while Fortenbury believes that you can make up lost ground at
All across the United States, young students spend their lives in preparation for college. When high school graduation rolls around, most students have already chosen a campus. There are so many factors that go into this decision. Most of which include logistics, academics, programs, majors, and minors. Housing is typically the last thing in the minds of incoming college freshman.. However, this is not a decision that should be put off or neglected. No matter what college one chooses, the difference between living on campus and living off campus greatly affects students.
I have been involved in the American Cancer Society for five years. My team, Team Hoot has raised funds for cancer as well as participating in Relay for Life each year. This year, I will be on the board committee at Relay; giving back to the survivors. This organization is one that I always promote and give back to. Also being involved in Relay for Life this year, National Honors Society is a club that helps the community. Being on the executive board, I correlate new service projects as well as corresponding with the Lee County National Honor Society chapter. Also, I am forming a new club at North Fort Myers High, Red Cross Club. Being president, Red Cross helps donates funds back to the American Red Cross. This year we are planning to donate materials for our troops as well as materials for individuals in disaster situations. Giving back to the community is very important to me. Being passionate about making a difference is a drive that I always
Students living on campus don’t have to worry about time because they live in the college. On the other hand, students who commute to school, have to worry about getting to class on time. Students living on campus don’t have to waste money on transportation or food since it is all covered under a plan. Unlike commuters, who aren’t covered under a plan, they have to pay more money to get to school as well as for food. Students who live on campus tend to know more people and they know more about what’s going on around campus. However, students, who commute, don’t have that advantage because they are home most of the time. Living on campus can be more beneficial than living at home in many ways.
Second positive externality is that almost all my friends currently staying inside the campus. So, we can easily meet up for dinner or discuss group assignments. It is also very nice when we meet each other near collage so often.
