Why I Want To Attend Law School

Seriously? Why? You're kidding, right? What took so long? These are just some of the comments and questions that I've had to address from friends, family and business associates since I decided that the next phase of my all-around growth is attending law school at age 40. Frankly, it has taken 17 years of professional experiences, life lessons, calculated risks paying off and reckless bets ending in colossal failures that have helped mold me. I'm action-oriented and depending on who you talk to; I'm either a risk taker or someone who has a firm grasp of risk-adjusted reward. Throughout my adult life, my decisions are based primarily on my ability to add value and if I do, the potential for upside. I observed other people's stories. Their successes, struggles, dilemmas and hard choices. My observations lead me to this decision. I want to attend law school because I want to be a lawyer but not just any lawyer. I know precisely how I want to and can add value to the legal community. The past four years have been very satisfying, I've learned enormously about myself and the start-up landscape. I firmly believe that the companies that I've advised and the entrepreneurs that I've mentored have benefitted from our relationship. However, I've also taken note that the areas which pose the most potential risk for these entrepreneurs involve knowledge and deep practical understanding of the law and how it mitigates existing and future risk. These immensely passionate and talented entrepreneurs may have the disruptive solution to make our lives better, but many fall well short of grasping the legal and operational ends of their business. Their shortcomings in this matter often rear its ugly head at the most inopportune
