Why i chose Artemis
I chose Artemis because of how intrepid she puts herself out to be. She stood out to me as a very protective and caring character who was a mother towards those in need of one. Not only was Artemis the the goddess of hunt, she was also known as the goddess of wild animals, wilderness, childbirth and virginity. These traits really stood out to me as something i wanted to feature in my mask.
Who is Artemis?
ARTEMIS (AR-ti-mis; Roman name Diana) was the virgin goddess of the hunt. She helped women in childbirth but also brought sudden death with her arrows.
Artemis and her brother Apollo were the children of Zeus and Leto. In some versions of their myth, Artemis was born first and helped her mother to deliver Apollo.
Niobe, queen of Thebes, once boasted that she was better than Leto because she

This would make the mask stand out more from a distance and bringing the mask more character and emotion.
Then we painted and sculpted the desired adaptations onto our masks to build up the characters we had chosen. We used all different kinds of materials like cardboard and plastic to build these add ons.
After we were satisfied with the outcome of our mask it was time to move on to our display boards where we would showcase everything we had accomplished over the last term.
Inspiration and Ideas
My inspiration came from this picture which i found on google images. It is a made up picture of Artemis which symbolises her wild characteristics. I chose to use this picture as one of my references because of the elements it incorporates in it.
Costume
The costume i picked which i personally thought would match artemis’s character the best would be this white pristine flowy dress. This dress has gold features which transfer back to her personality of being a saviour and a goddess. The colour shows strength and
...rious image styles and portraits of Mary Magdalen, Cleopatra and other religious and pertinent figures of the day. Her work reflects honesty, homage, technique and her storytelling ability. Her paintings also show she did her homework and researched her subjects. Historically, some of her early work has been debatable as to who the actual painter was for some pieces (her or her father), however Artemisia is certainly one of the most accomplished, accepted, and celebrated painters of her time.
Due to a accidental exclusion of sacrifice to greek goddess of hunt and moon named Artemis by a the king, Artemis got furious and sent a huge boat to come down and terrorize the people. Atalanta was able to join the hunt full of men heros because of her talent. No one thought she should be there but Atalanta proved them all wrong by killing the boar just before anymore people got hurt. However Atalanta had shown that she could do things just as good as a boy could leading to her father taking her back into his home, this step in the Hero's Journey is called the atonement with the father yet that does happen until later in Atalanta's life. Nevertheless though Atalanta did not face the steps in order as Joseph Campbell mentions in the Hero's
Greek mythology is something that everyone knows of, not only because it is so interesting, but because of the many gods and goddesses. One of the most well known goddesses being Goddess Athena who portrayed so many good characteristics. Although Goddess Athena is best known for wisdom, military skill, and crafts, she is also known for her mythological influence on the modern day world and her acts of heroism.
Hera was one of the daughters to Cronos. She was called the queen of the gods. She was the sister of Zeus, but also his wife. Hera sent disease on all women Zeus had relationships with. She mothered Ares and Hephaestus. Hera was the god of women. She protected all women and punished men who cheated and beat their wives
All the gods and goddesses within the ancient greek religion were heavily worshipped by the Spartans, in particular Artemis Orthia, Poseidon and Apollo. The gods convey the society’s values and ethics. Artemis Orthia, was the combination of two deities, who

The first goddess is Aphrodite, and she played a big part in mythology during her time. Aphrodite was the Greek goddess of love, pleasure, and beauty She is very well connected to the goddess, but Artemis is the main focus with her. Aphrodite came fro a very strange way. It started off when Cronus cut off Uranus’s genitals and threw them in the sea and Aphrodite rose upon them. Now according. Homer’s lliad, she is the daughter of Zeus and Dione. Aphrodite has many other names that people knew her by too. Some of the names were Cytherea and Cypris. They both mean the lady of. These are actually places that they claim where she was a...
Artemis is a nurturer and it can be seen when she cares for women in labor or for the wildlife, but her brutal execution of Acteon isn’t normally seen as a characteristic given to women. Katniss is much like Artemis when it comes to protecting and providing for her family. Katniss rebels against the rules to hunt for her family and provide them with what they need. After her father died she became the main breadwinner even though she was only 11 years old. Katniss even goes as far as to become the knight in shining armor for Peeta when she voluntarily goes to the cornucopia to get medicine for him. Women have been put into one of the two main groups by men which are “...’the angel in the house’... and ‘the madwoman in the attic'..." for years (Dobie 100). This explains why Artemis became the goddess of contradictions because as her story was retold it was being manipulated to show how the story teller of that time felt towards Artemis and her stories. If “...the Greeks identified Artemis with nature divinities of their own” then it makes sense that other cultures would define Artemis as what they thought she
Artemis was born of Leto and Zeus, on the island of Delos, later helping with the delivery of her twin brother, Apollo. Some sources state that her actual birthplace is not Delos, but an island called Ortygia. Although the two islands could be one and the same, it is not clear. In helping with the birth of her brother Artemis fulfilled her role as a goddess of childbirth (which she shares with Eileithyia and Hera). She is the goddess of chastity, the hunt and the moon, too. But I'll get more into those later.
Approximately, there is about 450 different noh masks. Most we see in majority of plays are variations of only sixty. Due to such a variety, it makes it difficult for scholars, let alone the audience to make decipher each classification. Hannya is a famous example of the masks changing for one character. This story is where an elderly woman transforms into a snake demon. However, if one is not looking closely or having prior knowledge, the snake demon mask can be mistaken easily for most other demon masks worn by female characters. Most scholars and performers categorize masks into five general categories.
Athena was the virgin daughter of the great god Zeus and she was also one of the great
In considering the relationship between the meanings of myths and their representation of women, we learned that the major role in shaping the narratives was played by men. Myths reveal to us the experiences of women living in the patriarchal society and we gain the symbol value accorded to women and we come to realize what the term "Woman" meant to the ancient Greek man. Reading through the various stories on Goddesses and queens, monsters and more. Princesses, we learn that there are three major levels of women in Greek mythology. The first level is composed of the divine beings known as the goddesses.
After this, which could be the beginning of act 2; Leto gets angry due to Niobe’s actions and tells her children how this could mean that no disciple would want to worship her. Apollo and Artemis take care of the issue shooting all of Niobe’s children. Amphion, Niobe’s husband commits suicide leaving Niobe all alone. After this she is changed into stone, and flew, carried by a gust of wind; to her home in Lydia where she was stuck onto the peak of a mountain and is still there weeping.
...als. In this sense, divinities like Aphrodite and Artemis possess a power rather like that of Zeus; and in this sense, too, these apparently contrasting divinities have something in common. Joseph Dial summarizes the relationship between Aphrodite and Artemis quite well in Instructure article, claiming “While we often think of both of these goddesses in rather benign terms—Aphrodite as the charming “goddess of love” or Artemis as the spunky huntress—the fact is that they can mete out punishment with the best of them, in the process demonstrating that their power may often be as extensive and as potentially lethal as that wielded by ‘the father of the gods.’”
