Should a teacher give a student more time to work on missing assignments? How would you feel if you turned in everything on time while others got more time to work on it when it was supposed to be due? Teachers should not give extra time for students that didn’t do it on time. Students should not be given unlimited time because it is unfair to others that met the deadline, it teaches life skills, and if they got unlimited time, they would slack off more.
If some students are given extra time to turn in work, then it wouldn’t be fair for the others students that did turn in their work on time. Imagine turning in all your work then get piled with more worksheets while others are slacking off, and still get more time to work on

If a person got a job and turned in their assignments late, then they would most likely get fired. A student would expect their boss to give them extra time for a file; however, it's not like that at all outside of school. At an office job, you won’t be given extra time or days to finish something, so a teacher should prepare a student for the real world.
Most of the people that need extra time are the ones that slack and don’t do their work. They never come to school, or try to finish their work on time because they are busy talking or playing on their phone. Giving limited time would resolve this issue and make them actually do their work, so they won’t get a zero on it. When a student is slacking off, they shouldn’t be given extra time to slack off more.
Not given extra time to work on something certainly helps the student and the teacher. On the contrary, other believe that a student should be given more time because they have other activities to do. A student should be putting school first before anything else, or they will fail and not get into the college they want to go to. Imagine being kicked out of your favorite sport because of one assignment that you missed and got a bad grade on it, or having to come to remediation and miss all the activities you want to do. Nobody wants to be kicked off a sports team, or come to remediation, so it would be better if everyone
79% of American middle school and high school students take part regularly in at least one after-school extracurricular activity. Many students participate in sports that can take up to 4 hours of their time, daily. Homework takes time to do after school and extracurriculars. If a student goes to school at 9:00 and gets out at 4:00, then goes to an after-school activity from 4:00 to 6:00, they will come home and have dinner from about 6:30 to 7:15, which means that they will probably start homework at around 7:30. This means that high school students will be up until about 11:00 finishing their homework, that’s without factoring in how much time the students will waste.
A schedule of a student becomes very tight as they need to balance everything out in all ways they can. For example, this year due to me taking a College Now class I have needed to compromise my entire schedule, donating another hour of my life into school. Through the past years of high school my classes started at 8:00 AM, however, now my classes start at 7:00 AM. Along with this class I have regents based classes which I manage such as Physics, English, and U.S. History, yet I take Pre-Calc this year. As a student, I always hear other students around the school complaining about the amount of work they have to do, however, they don’t realize that this work is what leads to their future success. For me complaining is not a valid excuse, as I certainly believe that there should be a deadline for everything because we can manage everything as long as we are determined. A person like me, who receives an assignment, which may be due in the next two weeks will manage their time out and complete it in the next two days, thinking that what if I have more things to do. Throughout all the school years that I have attended, there has not been one assignment that I didn’t complete or didn’t hand it in on time. Where I come from and the teachings of my parents, have taught me that family time and family are two significant parts of your life, which no matter what happens
This will help all learn to grow and benefit in their own unique ways. Also, this will make every student wake up with a smile while commuting to school and later into their careers.
There is too much stress placed on students as it is. Imagine being a little kid going to school for 5 hours. Working on academics
Reconstruction took place after the Civil War to rebuild what we know today as the United States of America. Amendments that gave African Americans the right to voting were established during reconstruction. Reconstruction also caused mass groups like the KKK to form and fight the changes reconstruction had to offer. Although there were many successes that came from reconstruction, there were also many failures.
Most students even have so much work that they’ll stay up all night just to get it
...th mounds of work to be completed at home. It is unfair to expect students to pick up the slack for teachers who are not doing their jobs. Although homework can be used as a tool to reinforce, more often than not teachers are not using it this way, and in fact they are abusing this tool and it should be banned all together.
This is true because neither the teachers nor the students are able to fully focus on their work, causing a lack of concentration. An absence of productivity leads to even bigger problems. When the students aren’t listening or participating, the teacher has to spend even more time re-teaching the material at a later time. This throws the teacher off-schedule and prohibits them from covering all of the material they need to by the end of the semester. Students also have a harder time reaching deadlines if they are unable to cover all of the necessary material in class, forcing the teacher to push back the due dates to an even later date.
A large emphasis is placed on these students to take higher classes, receive higher grades, find a part time job, and have social life. These expectations push students to forget the purpose of school. This causes the current learning system to be ineffective. School systems need to create an arrangement to capture the students attention and present information in a way that students have the desire to
A statement from the Huffington Post states, “From a very young age, we are told the importance of getting good grades. Especially in high school, we are told time and time again that our grades affect what college we will get into. While grades are extremely important, people often forget about the importance of learning, not just getting good grades. There is a difference between the grade received in a course and the amount of learning that took place in the course.” Parents and institutions should teach the importance of learning. The society around the upbringing of students emphasizes getting good grades as apposed to getting every detail and aspect mastered. School priorities should be reevaluated and changed for future students
People believe they should also encourage students to make progress and provide them with high quality
In this world today, all us students are ever told is “You need good grades or you’re not going to college.” Most students are part-time workers, full-time athletes, have families, relationships, and a life. When our education system demands that we put school first before our mental health and very own lives, that screams disfuntion to me. I shouldn’t have to decide on whether or not to see my family after school or work on four different
Don’t you think it’s unfair that some students refuse to do school work while others actually try for good grades? And for what? For some, the continuous, exhausting effort seems futile which is why a reward system would be beneficial. Many people complete jobs at a higher level of efficiency when paid. Therefore, if students were to get paid for their good grades, high school would be a more rewarding and worthwhile educational experience.
Schools can give responsibility to students but never without a cost. Students should have to chance to prove their worth to schools and show how responsible they can be as adults. When students go to college classes as high schoolers they sometimes tend to have more free time during those times. If a child has enough responsibility to take those classes they should have enough to leave school and be trusted to come back to school after their free time is over. Although leaving school early is not something that is smiled upon it should be because some students are ahead and can work their schedule to allow extra time because of hard work in early years.
...ke school something that the students can look back on and think that it was a meaningful time where they learned a lot about life instead of a time where they thought they would have a break down because they got a low score on a test. School should be a time to make mistakes in a safe environment that they can learn from, not a place that they are petrified to make a mistake for fear of retribution on their grade cards. Its time to change the school system to save future students from becoming stress crazed and to let them know that there is more to this world than a grade card and in the long run it is a very small fraction of life.
