Don’t you think it’s unfair that some students refuse to do school work while others actually try for good grades? And for what? For some, the continuous, exhausting effort seems futile which is why a reward system would be beneficial. Many people complete jobs at a higher level of efficiency when paid. Therefore, if students were to get paid for their good grades, high school would be a more rewarding and worthwhile educational experience. Wouldn’t you rather succeed due to the drive you have for yourself instead of worldly motives? A reward for trying in school may seem quite adulate. Not to mention, the more important and desirable money becomes with these misguided intentions. Relentless effort does, in fact, ensure success. Receiving payment for this ability would encourage students to continue their education with the same work ethic developed through a reward system. There may be a risk of psychological illnesses; however, there is a higher possibility of improvement of mental health. Good grades increase confidence, self-esteem, and more importantly, make parents proud. By high school, successful study habits should be in place for individuals and if they don’t seem to be effective, there is no excuse for unattained help such as tutors or even friends. Students brought up in a system of incentives get accustomed working for grades. So yes. It works for many students to motivate work. But if "working" means learning, these external incentives teach the students the wrong thing to aim at, the wrong reason for doing it, and often the wrong way to do it. In a world in which a person is not compensated for his work, he would no longer work as diligently. Often times, a person will work in order to receive a reward. This reward then helps him to gain more rewards in the future. This can be seen in a game of rummy when a player must play each hand carefully in order to benefit himself in later hands. This is precisely what occurs when students receive GPAs that have been weighted; so, as a result of the extensive amount of work required to receive the same grade in an Advanced Placement (AP) course as in a base level course, the students of Saint Bernard deserve to benefit from a more accurate representation of and award for their work: weighted GPAs.

Having to work up to a deadline, conducting research, and collaborating with peers for group projects are all necessary tasks in the "real world". It is true that success can be achieved without school, but school is only one of the many pathways an individual can choose in order to become educated. School provides students with the ability to strive in the real word by providing them with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed. When asked what I am studying for, I can say that I am studying to become someone who can make a difference. I may not enjoy the stress and anxiety that comes with school, but I cherish the fact that school is providing me with the knowledge and skills I need to further my dreams.
This will help all learn to grow and benefit in their own unique ways. Also, this will make every student wake up with a smile while commuting to school and later into their careers.
The education crisis in America has been overlooked and ignored for far too long. Recognizing that young people are the future of our country should be priority and an initiative by the government. By providing the help that students and teachers need to be successful in the classroom, we eliminate all excuses for not finding success outside of the classroom. If the government gave more funding to public and state school systems, enforce reward systems for teachers who excel at their job, also create more education options for students; the country would see an increase of interest in high school and continuing that education further.
Students that receive motivation will have the means financially and globally, which will encourage them, also knowing they are being supported by the government to complete/obtain higher education. If a student is interested in attending college and will work hard while doing so, why should we not pay for their school? Author Thomas Friedman writes, “"Nobody works harder at learning than a curious kid” (314). Thomas is saying that if we give students equal opportunities they will thrive in the globalized world. More of our graduates will be prepared for the work force and be able to compete. According to the research findings by Georgetown University, in 2020, 65% of jobs will require some type of degree or education beyond high school. Thomas Friedman again writes, “What you know today will be out-of-date sooner than you think” (309). We must give this type of information to students to motivate them. The need for education beyond high school is not just something intelligent people can do but instead, by making this dream a reality, something all can do. Students should be paid for having good grades. According to Psychology Today the United States has fallen behind other nations in education. In addition to this, approximately every one in four students in the U.S. drops out of school before graduation. The main reason for this is that students have little to no motivation. Students are either bored by school, or they are distracted by the other things that go on in their lives such as sports, jobs, friends and their own family life. Although learning has its own rewards, some students respond better to money. This essay explains how students will be paid and the reasons that they should receive money for getting good grades. It’s a waste of time so students should not be required to complete the assessment. Punishment systems and reward systems only deliver short term benefits and sometimes don’t deliver at all. If grades and praise are a student’s only motivation, then once the student is outside of academia, then, with no source of grades and praise, they will no longer be motivated to learn. Pushes him/herself to think deeper about issues and draw connections to their personal, academic, and professional lives. A person with this attitude has a perspective that allows them to look beyond day-to-day academic tasks and view the broader picture of their life. This encourages healthy, long-term decisions.
Although they cannot completely control how their life goes, making education a focus will benefit them greatly in the long run. Students can gain a sense of accomplishment that can boost their self-esteem and confidence later in life. Although school may not be the most fascinating place to go, in the end the effects are worth every minute of it.
Why is being a successful student important? Being a successful student is very important because without school and education you cannot get a good job and without a good job you have no money and money is how you survive in this world. This is what happens when students are not successful.
