“If you want to be an athlete, then getting good grades, going to college, and developing your intellectual skills are important”(Tony Dungy). Good grades show how important your future is to you. Not only do good grades help with your future, you can make money from how well you play. With good grades, you get a higher chance to get into a better college. Professional athletes can get paid for how they play. Athletes should be passing their classes to play a sport because it shows how dedicated they are to their education and how you want your future to look like. For example, you can get a scholarship for having good grades and playing a sport. To begin, athletes should be passing their classes to play sports to earn a sense of responsibility. This evidence supports my claim because it shows that playing a sport comes with many obligations. It can also teach you respect. To sum it up, sports can teach children responsibility and many life lessons. The third reason athletes should be passing their classes to play sports is because it works out their brain and their future. According to Merlin Rajan, “Students should have good grades to play sports” She states, “Having good grades gives many financial benefits to students. For example, schools offer merit money, money received based on academic, artistic or athletic excellence. This would be a privilege to have, especially if you are having trouble affording college.” This supports my claim because it shows that good grades give students a lot of financial benefits. To finish this off, having good grades gives you a good future. Although athletes don't have to pass their classes to play sports. It is said that athletes don't need good grades to play sports because they can get a scholarship for playing a
“Maintaining good academic standing is part of the student athlete culture,” according to women’s head soccer coach Jack Hyde, “It’s part of their responsibility...they embrace it,” he said (Stricklen). “I love football and I wouldn’t want to mess it up by not getting good grades in all my classes,” said Narayan, a student athlete (Given and Tribou). However, more and more student athletes are not finding studying and keeping their grades up a priority. Most student athletes dream of one day becoming a professional athlete, but without good grades, they won’t be able to go to a good college to play for. Being an athlete with good grades also benefits them when trying to get scholarships. Becoming a professional
Only 2% of all college athletes make it to the professional level. That is 2% of 460,000 athletes. That means 450,800 of those athletes stop after college, and move on. After all the hard work they put in, it's over. The 40 hours of training per week for years, it's over. And yet the don´t get paid. Why is this? Why do they even play anyway? They play for the love of the game. If we started paying them, they wouldn´t play from love, they would pay from greed. And, how do colleges spend money? Fair pay, and Title IX make it harder than it looks to start paying these athletes. Let the athletes play for love, not greed.
College programs make billions of dollars each year (“Should”). The NCAA and the colleges benefit tremendously from the revenue student athletes make, but the student athletes themselves? They don’t even get a penny! First, the student athletes make huge commitments to their schools and the Ncaa. Next, the student athletes have to juggle twice what the professionals getting paid millions of dollars have to do. Lastly, practice schedules can take away what career path they really want to go down. Student athletes should get paid.
The salary of professional athletes : Too much or just enough? Athletes can be many people’s idol. These athletes are swishing a ball, running 10 yards to the touch down post or making a home run. Though to do that, these athletes receive a massive salary.
The highest paid Cubs player will make 19 million dollars in 2012. The lowest paid Cubs player will make 417,000 in 2012. The highest paid Bulls player will make 13.5 million in 2012. The lowest paid Bulls player will make 850,000 in 2012. As you can see these players might have a difference between what they get paid but this is how athletes get over paid.
like that because they have a job that really has an impact on the world. All four
Although athletes may think that they make the ideal amount of money for their job, there are many children famished or ailing in many locations around the world. While athletes are earning millions of dollars a year, families are being emaciated in Africa and even the United States.
Professional athletes earn one of the highest salaries in modern day society. Though some insist that they are ridiculously overpaid, many defend that their salaries are acceptable. The degree of contribution an athlete has in the society is often underestimated, and that they deserve their incomes because of their dedications to the sport, the rare physical talents, and that their high incomes are significantly composed of other non sport-related factors rewarded by third-parties. Athletes are paid fairly for the amount of dedication, sacrifice, aversion of pain, tenacity, and determination required along their careers. “1 players out of 100 makes it to the college squad, and 1 college player out of 100 get drafted,” according to Mark Simmons, the author of Most Paid Salaries.
People either say yes or no when it comes to an athlete’s paychecks. Athletes’ paychecks have risen a lot over the years, and it is safe to say that some of these athletes have more money than most people can earn in their entire lifetime. Some people may disagree and say that athletes don’t deserve all this cash flow, but athletes deserve their high salaries for various reasons, such as their aid to the community, hard work, injury time, and the passion they have for their sport. The highly controversial topic of athlete’s salaries has received mixed messages, but most athletes’ usage of their money is more helpful than unhelpful. Athletes help society by using a portion of their salary and serving as an inspiration at all times.
In today’s society, people idolize and adore athletes and some are even known all across the world for their accomplishments in their sport. On the other hand, though, certain athletes are known for less reputable things. Some athletes, both college and professional, have a bad habit of getting into trouble and are constantly breaking the rules. Even after getting caught, they never seem to learn their lesson because they never face any serious consequences. The punishments regular people receive for breaking a law or rule are far worse than the punishments athletes receive for breaking the same law or rule.
There’s no doubt that 71$ million is a lot for Lebron James, someone who plays basketball. Though you can’t deny that he hasn’t earned it. He shoots 3 pointers and slam dunks like it’s nothing. Athletes work hard, they deserve their pay for what they do. Like, putting their bodies at risk, dealing with extremely short careers, and doing it all to entertain us.
Should professional athletes be paid so highly? Professional athletes all over the world are getting paid millions of dollars, to play the sport that they love. However do these athletes deserve the money they are being paid. If you ask most people they are more likely say that the athletes do not deserve the money.
The question, “are athletes and actresses paid more than enough”, have been surfacing for a while. The objective of this paper is to debate on whether athletes and actresses overpaid. People have there their reasoning’s and not everybody is right. To me, I feel like they are paid way too much. And here is my reasoning…
There has been quite a bit of debate over the years about whether or not professional athletes deserve their multi-million dollar contracts recently with athletes earning some of the highest amounts of money out of any job in the world. Some people believe that they deserve their money because they are what makes a sport and what earns it so much money from tickets and merchandise while others believe that they don't deserve it because there are more important jobs that don't earn nearly as much revenue and that influence society positively such as a doctor or a teacher.
Also the reason for student athletes to go to school and get good grades is higher than if you didn’t play sports because of the incentive to play sports. Most schools also ask students to be in school to be allowed to attend practice or play in a game that day. So the attendance rate of an athlete at school is higher not only because of the incentive to play but also so that he/she can keep up on all of their homework. Also that means that the students will usually get better grades but that's not always the case because He/ She is mentally challenged or just because of laziness, and with better grades comes a higher graduation rate.
