Professional athletes earn one of the highest salaries in modern day society. Though some insist that they are ridiculously overpaid, many defend that their salaries are acceptable. The degree of contribution an athlete has in the society is often underestimated, and that they deserve their incomes because of their dedications to the sport, the rare physical talents, and that their high incomes are significantly composed of other non sport-related factors rewarded by third-parties. Athletes are paid fairly for the amount of dedication, sacrifice, aversion of pain, tenacity, and determination required along their careers. “1 players out of 100 makes it to the college squad, and 1 college player out of 100 get drafted,” according to Mark Simmons, the author of Most Paid Salaries. “[And] just because you get drafted, that doesn’t mean you will make it...” Simmons …show more content…

Although many argue that other less-paying professions, such as teachers, could bring more contributions to the society than someone who throws a ball or swings a bat, their statements are made without the considerations of the amount of job openings and the amount of eligible workers. Teachers are surely a crucial factor for the country to operate, but there are thousands and thousands of teachers who are capable of teaching the same knowledge while there are little capable of shooting the basket in the national league. As stated in the newspaper USA Today, “[Teachers] are paid by the taxpayersー and high-income athletes contribute a great share.” People often ignored the truth that teachers, collectively, earn multiple more than athletes, whose duty is to pay taxes to fund public teachers. Moreover, because there are less top athletes than teachers, they earn a larger share of the wage than regular teachers.
