Working Hard For The Come Up An enormous amount of citizens have animosity towards professional athletes because they make so much more money without doing so much work. On the other hand teachers, soldiers, scientists, construction workers, and many other respectable people, who make great contribution to our society, do not get paid as much as they should. Because of this, many people come to the conclusion that athletes do not deserve as much as they earn. However, the way I see it, salary do not define the true value of an occupation. Economically, professional athletes do deserve a ‘fat’ pay check because they have truly worked for it. Firstly, professional athletes bring huge income to the sports industry and society as a whole. The sports industry is unique because it can generate people interest in so many aspects. A stadium can bring billions of dollars in by just selling tickets and endorsing star athletes sports gear alone. For example, back in 1990s Michael Jordan alone brought more than 10 billion income to the economy annually. So now the fact that Michael Jordan earned several million a year does not seem absurd at all. Athletes are like expensive products that make huge profit and pay off and the long run. …show more content…
For example most people can make a good teacher or a good construction worker when they put their mind into it. But rarely can one be mold into a good athlete that the world would like pay to see perform. To be a professional athlete not only requires hard work and talent but excellent physical conditions as well. A person with average height can seldom become a great basketball player in the NBA. So the few people who do make it to be great players deserve a high salary. Thus professional athletes should make a great amount of money for their
Professional athletes are highly overpaid. Compensation should be based on job importance, not entertainment. If vital, life-saving professions are not rewarded for the stress of their jobs, there may come a day when those jobs are much harder to fill. Pay the individuals who make a difference in the
Emil Zatopek once said “An athlete cannot run with money in his pockets. He must run with hope in his heart and dreams in his head.” This quote applies to every college athlete. The quote means that an athlete may not be getting paid in college, but if they put in the hard work and dedication they can make it to the big leagues. College football is the second most watched sport in America. And the athletes playing the game do not even get paid a penny to play the game. In the sports world. this has been talked about for an extremely long time. College athletes put their body on the line for injury. They put their grades in on the line because of the hours they put on the court, or field (Keolanui). They also sell their apparel at the game and at stores and they get no money at all (Keolanui).
Athletes are being paid hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars to entertain us. They work less hours than the average person and make considerably more. Athletes all around the world are paid handsomely because they are talented and have extensive knowledge of their sport. But, is that knowledge and talent really worth what they are earning every season? Compared to some of the most common and needed professions are athletes really earning their paychecks? It’s time to take a deep look into what requirements besides natural ability athletes really need? How many hours are they expected to put in a week and what their job really is.
Should professional athletes earn millions of dollars for playing a game? Athletes should not be making millions and millions of dollars while more important jobs earn significantly less. There are doctors who save lives daily and they do not even make a tenth of what some athletes make. It is crazy to believe that someone is really worth hundreds of millions of dollars, and all they have to do is play a sport; a sport that millions of people would play for free if given the chance.
Have you ever compared how much pro athletes make to how much a real job makes like a nurse or a teacher? Well the outcome is ridiculous. According to the 7th grade middle school Language Arts class of St.Pius X Catholic School, some people agree that Professional Athletes are paid too much. Furthermore athletes are paid too much because a normal job, as I said, make a fraction of what real jobs make like a doctor and doctors take real risks.
Every day, people around the world complain about professional athletes salaries. Even though the top athletes make millions of dollars every year, the majority of athletes do not make any more than the average working class citizen. There are also many risks along with the job, and job security is very unstable. Expenses and taxes also limit the amount of money an athlete makes. Tax rates are extremely high for the men and women who participate in professional sports.
Do you think professional athletes are overpaid? You might think they earn more than what they are worth for playing half a year, but athletes have many things which contribute to their salary. Some of these things include their earnings from endorsements, ticket sales, performance, merchandise, their social contributions, and TV ratings. Although there are many factors that contribute to their salary, professional athletes may be overpaid because as a society, we contribute to their success. So, in the end, part of the athlete’s salary comes from the people who support the sports in the first place.
Professional athletes are not overpaid. They are people in the world with extraordinary skills that many do not possess. However, some people say that they don’t deserve the money they earn. The debate on if athletes pay should be cut has been going on for years. Some people believe that athletes are paid too much and more money should go to other more important jobs. Others know that being a professional athlete takes a life devotion and hours of training. Professional Athletes are not overpaid, this is because of the amount of physical and mental toughness they go through playing their sport. The fact that Athletes are paid large amounts because of their performances, and, people pay to see athletes play.
middle of paper ... ... In conclusion, professional athletes put a lot of work and effort into what they do and get paid as much as they deserve. All the physical stress they go through from when they were children to the early age they retire is worth the amount they get paid. Not to forget about the mental stress they face as well.
The salary of professional athletes are always being debated on whether they make too much or it 's the right amount they should make. Some of the athletes do make millions and millions of dollars, but there is some that don 't. Anyways in order to make the millions first an athletes must make it to the professional level. For example in soccer only 1.4% of people actually make it to the professional level. So the rest of the people make it for other sports such as football, basketball, baseball, and others. To be considered a professional athlete you must be getting payed to play a sport. They will be playing for a league and even tournaments and get rewarded with more money if they win. Some may think an athlete
“Someone who tosses a ball shouldn’t earn 700 times as much as someone who saves lives. ”(Spector, para 4-5). Numerous individuals hold the opinion that athletes, a person most young people look up to, should receive lower compensation, conversely, I disagree with this notion due to a variety of factors. Professional athletes do not earn a significant amount of money due to their self-imposed challenge to not settle for average, as their organizations generate substantial profits, and the athlete is unable to control the amount of money offered to them. Perhaps the primary reason athletes are not compensated astronomically is that they must devote their full lives to pursuing this goal.
In today’s society many will argue whether or not professional athletes are overpaid. In the present time athletes are being paid phenomenally large amounts of money for their entertainment. It is my claim that all professional athletes are overpaid because they do not offer society an essential function that improves or enhances our world in comparison to other professionals such as medical doctors, lawyers, and teachers. Society does not value entertainment enough to warrant such high salaries such as those of many professional athletes. There is no reason that these athletes should demand these tremendous amounts of money. This is why you have to put into question their reasoning for demanding such high salaries.
In a world, where professional athletes are making exponentially more than those risking their lives in the military, than those doing back-breaking labor that will allow this country to continue to function, there is an outrage surrounding their colossal salaries. According to Forbes, the highest paid athlete in the world in 2016 was Christiano Ronaldo where he racked in an astounding 88 million dollars (Desantis). But should athletes really be treated to the luxury of millions of dollars per year? Are they really worthy of these substantial sums of money? And frankly, the answer is yes.
Athletes train and push their limits everyday, therefore they should get paid well. They have to train and travel and keep on going. They never stop and it is tiring. Athletes barely get rest so they deserve to get paid well, their job is very hard. Athletes try to hard and they get hurt by doing something really hard. Athletes get injured a lot and they have to pay for it that's probably why they have short careers. They have to get good grades and work hard also they have to study and get a lot of tutors. It’s not easy to be an athlete and you have to get good grades and do a lot of work. Athletes have to do all this stuff that is so hard and doing stuff that's to extreme for them so they deserve to get paid like they do.
