Virtual Schools Undeniably Beneficial Over 250,000 students have enrolled in virtual schools and have benefited from doing so. Virtual schools have been a growing trend for families as a form of education for their child. Online schooling provides an outlet for busy families who cannot afford their time to send their children to traditional schooling. Students in virtual learning programs have the opportunity to not only grow as a student, but as a well-rounded individual. Although some argue that virtual schools are not beneficial for students, in reality they are because they allow the child to grow more independently and maturely as well as flexibility. According to Mr. Torres, an online teacher interviewed with Nightly News, stated “ It’s providing them skills that they’re going to need; time management and consistency in your work, communication with instructors” (“Online”). In other words, Mr. Torres states that virtual schools are not just academically teaching them, but helping them grow to be an independently skilled person. This can only benefit the student even more for their future. A parent who was interviewed by Nightly News says “You have to push yourself a lot harder because no one’s here saying ‘you got to do it’ and jamming it down your throat’” (“Online”). This shows that a student has to be self-motivated and hardworking to be able to go through an online learning program. According to staff writer, Wendy Hundley's article stated “Some online students are competitive athletes or budding actors who need flexible learning schedules” (“Hundley”). This exemplifies that online learning works around the students’ schedules for the child's advantage. In addition, students still get their education and personal arrangements done without anything interfering. Not only do students benefit from the flexibility, but the teachers as well. This shows that online teachers cater their time to help their students and yet still benefit from doing so.
