It’s summer and kids love playing outside, but some kids are sitting in their house and playing on their devices. Kids spend to much time on their devices so, to help with that parents should limit their children’s time on their devices, because if they spend to much time on their devices it can make them have brain problems, not have enough exercise, and bad eyesight. Having a lot of screen time affect kids brain health. Of course, they are nice to keep your kids entertained, but we all need to know that t if kids have too much screen time such as 4-6 or more hours, they could have brain function problems the kids brains will soon not be able to function. Without their brain functioning kids could have a hard time with many things like school,
sports, and parts in their daily life. We all need to consider that if the children have too much electronic time the kids could have brain restructures which means you organize differently. If the children like to organize their own way and than the kids have a lot electronic time they will stop organizing that way and it will be a lot different it might end up a big mess. The problem is that if people have too much screen time they can not be able to process their emotions, also you are likely to die earlier.If kids can not be able to process emotions than they will be different emotions all the time. It would be sad if the child die earlier.The parents need to tell their children to not go on electronics for a long time to protect their body’s. Three-year-olds kids or older need their exercises but if children are busy on their screens than many horrible things can happen. We all need to consider that if children are on their devices all the time and they don’t get enough exercise than it can make kids crave unhealthy food. That is a big problems if kids crave unhealthy food than it can lead to some bad things in your body. We need to determine that if parents kids spend too much time on their devices than they will not sleep well. The problem is that if kids do not sleep well than they could be cranky and not do well in school. If kids have too much time on their devices their bones will become weak and they become more stressed. The issue of that is that if kids become stressed than they will be more worked up on a lot of things, and if children have weak bones than it will be hard for them to do things like walk, do thing with their hand. The parents need to let their kids get off their devices and let them get more exercise. Parents need to limit their children's time on their devices because it is bad for their eyesight. The problem is if parents don’t limit their children’s time on their devices than they could have blurry vision. This is a problem because if children have blurry vision than children will not be able see straight. We all need to consider that if children spend to much time on their devices they will have focus issues and even double vision. The issue of this is that if the children have double vision and focus issues than they won’t be able to do well in school.It is so important that parents do not let their children spend too much time on their devices to protect their eyesight. There are many health and social reasons to limit your child’s time to all things tech gadgets. Too much screen time can damage you brain health, hurt their eyesight,eliminate time that you can have to exercise, There is only one solution to this. Parents should limit her children's time on electronics.

The two articles, “Blame Society, Not the Screen Time” by Dana Boyd and “Don’t Limit Your Teen’s Screen Time” by Chris Bergman, both talk about how parents should not limit their kid’s screen time. Both authors are writing to parents of children who they think spend way too much time on their electronics. However, Dana Boyd has a much better compelling argument for not restricting teenager’s screen time. Boyd has a much better appeal to both audiences. She manages to employ better uses of both pathos and logos
With the expansion in technology, children are hastily becoming more and more inactive. In the past century, kids would play outside from sunrise to sunset. Little did they realize, that playtime served as great daily exercise. Physical activity is a key necessity in keeping a healthy lifestyle. With the advancement of technology and the growing popularity of video games and television, fewer children are getting exercise. Stationary activities, such as video games and watching T.V., are keeping children inside and away from exercise. To blame just the kids for this lack of exercise would be wrong. The parents are the ones responsible for giving the children these games, but that is not all bad. Where it does turn bad however, is when the kids are given these games or televisions without a time restraint. Through research, they have found that 26% of children watch television for more than four hours a day. In efforts to encourage outside playtime for kids, Nickelodeon shut down programming daily from noon to 3pm. This seemed to be a great idea, but does it really help? Television, or screen time, has become a large part of today's society. Whether it's by way of smart-phones, a television, a computer, or a tablet, screen time has negative effects on the cognitive ability of children and adolescents. It has even been proven that it can lead to Alzheimer's disease when a person, in the age range of 20-60 years old, views an hour more than the recommended amount of screen time a day (Sigman 14). In children, the amount of screen time viewed has a relationship with the likelihood of developing a deficit in his attention span; the longer a child views screen time, the more likely he is to be diagnosed with an attention disorder. Screen time, or television, can cause attention disorders and other problem with cognitive abilities in children and adolescents that effect the education they can comprehend.

In the Physical Activities article it states, “Children and adolescents spend an average of five and a half hours a day using media that includes TV, video games, computer activities, and the Internet” (917). These hours spent on electronics have consequences, children are not receiving the amount of exercise needed to keep them from gaining weight. Parents should encourage their children to spend less time on electronics and more time spent participating in physical activities. Children learn by example, so parents hold the responsibility for installing these healthy lifestyle habits in their children. According to Mahmood, “Studies’ suggested that parents should encourage outdoor play since children of active mothers were twice as likely to be active as children of inactive mothers” (9). It is important to consider that screen time represents only a portion of a child’s overall sedentary activity. Other sedentary activities may include doing school work, talking on the phone and riding in a school bus or car. A child's overall development can be mental, physical, and emotional. In the article “Give me that old time recess”, the author discussed the negative consequences of children losing playtime. “In a growing number of studies, diminished opportunities for outdoor playtime have been linked with school difficulties, increased childhood anxiety, disconnection from nature, attention deficit disorder, and the epidemic of childhood obesity” (Gross-Loh Par 4). This quote is important because children today are suffering more from obesity, and attention deficit disorders due to the decrease of structured play. Children are becoming less active due to the the dependency on technology. The increase in obesity is the result of the rise in children having smart phones. With children having smartphones, they lose the desire to play outside. The lack of play causes an increase in depression among children and teens. (Tanner Par 10). This is important because today’s generation has a large dependency on technology “Sixty-five percent of children under eight years old watch television daily. On average, they spend about an hour and a half (100 minutes to be exact) watching TV every day.” (Conrad Par 3). Childrens dependency on technology is related to depression because many children have a hard time communicating and socializing with other children due to technology ruining children's interpersonal skills (Bindley Par 4).
Due to this argument, parents and children now heavily rely on technology for a main source of play, limiting the challenges of all creativity and imagination (Rowan 3). Although technology can provide some games and tools that can help children learn, it does not provide the same benefits as actual play and actually causes more harm than good. One of the main problems with play through technology is the fact that children are seeing a “symbolic representation of the real world” and are not receiving a direct experience of the real world with real people and materials (Rice 3). The more time children spend looking at a screen, the more they are isolating themselves and not spending time with other children and adults (Rice 3). This is not only damaging to the learning development of a child, but also the healthy development of forming relationships and social skills (Rice 3). According to a 2010 Kaiser Foundation study, children who are in elementary school use on average 7.5 hours per day of entertainment technology and spending this much “screen time” is damaging to the development of children because their “sensory, motor, and attachment systems have biologically not evolved to accommodate this

Some of these reasons include: the negative effect iPads have on a developing child's social skills; the way these devices hinder muscle development, especially in the region of the hand and wrist; the possibility of becoming addicted; and the detrimental repercussions on the brains ability to process words and sounds quickly.
