Why Do Curfews Keep Teens Out Of Trouble

Curfews are not only good for safety but also for keeping kids out of trouble. According to City Mayors, on July 9, 2009 there are at least 500 cities that have curfews for teenagers. The most standard curfews go from 12:00 to 6:00 during the night. Curfews are necessary to society because that keeps our youth safe and helps them know right from wrong. Punishments give kids an idea of what will happen when they break the rules of curfew. One of the punishments could be fined. Fines increase, according to how often you go out. Another punishment could be required after school program or community service. You could also get your driver license restricted or serve detention in jails or prison. These punishments are for kids to know that there will be consequences for their actions and also to give a motive for not doing it again. Although there are some exceptions like when you accompanied by a parent or guardian. Another is traveling to or from work. School activities and religious activities also fit in as an exception. Lastly, and the most obvious one is for emergencies. This allows a little breathing room for the kids because if they had to work late do not want to bother their parents. So even if you had the rule in effect, it would not make a huge difference. Law enforcement is working their hardest when it comes to helping kids stay off the streets. There are only so many people in the law enforcement, so they will not be able to stop everybody that goes out past curfew. A lot of towns have seen improvements so far.
