Sacrifice is inevitable in every aspect of life; therefore, in order to become successful, one must be willing to give up time, money, and in some cases relationships in order to become a successful person. As humans, success is an expectation many can reach while others struggle to give up the right things to make it. Athletes are known for sacrificing so much to become good at what they do. Many athletes wish to be successful and go on to a bigger and better careers. To do this, one must be willing to give up many pleasures such as; time, money, and relationships. “When you’re not at the gym or out on the field, you’ll be studying videos of your past performances, opening your eyes as to how you can improve in the future” (Anne). In this quote, Melodie Anne contributes to the idea that athletes are required to give up a lot of time in order to go far in a chosen sport. When one continuously tries to sacrifice too much in order to get desired results, he or she may generate undesired outcomes instead such as depression or giving up. “Not only are these youngsters at risk for emotional burnout, they may also develop injuries that plague them for a lifetime. Some will turn to steroids or other performance-enhancing substances to try to gain an edge “ (Stenson). According to Jacqueline Stenson, when children push too hard and sacrifice too much in activities such as sports they can have horrendous results which can include giving up that certain activity altogether. In some instances, those who sacrifice too much end up disliking a certain activity because they were overwhelmed by the amount of sacrifice that was needed.
