Imagine answering a couple of questions correctly is crucial to the rest of your life, but you don’t know the right answers. You start to despair because you’re about to bomb this test and flunk out of the class you’re taking. It’s not completely your fault though. Maybe you had a rough couple of days prior to the test, or maybe you did study and you still do not know what to do. You look over and see a beam of light shining down upon your classmates uncovered answer sheet. Are you passing up on this opportunity to pass?
Although cheating is technically wrong, people should consider their conception of morality because in the right context cheating is justified. Although choosing to copy a classmates answers in the example is morally wrong, it is still justified. Not only that, but also necessary. Because of certain problematic and uncontrollable situations in your life, you were unable to properly study for your test. Now say despite that you still tried to study but due to a lack of teaching you could not comprehend the material. Copying a classmates answers is all you can do to avoid facing failure and all the dilemmas that come with it.

Depending on what you want to do in life, whether it be becoming a doctor or just graduating high school, grades will either make or break you. This demanding situation, combined with the copious amounts of assignments, and your own personal issues, can make life all the more stressful. One could argue that choosing to copy someone's homework assignment means that a lazy student is going to receive an unfair grade over material they don’t know, but it could also mean that the student knows the material and is choosing to save themselves time. Or maybe the material wasn’t properly taught due to bad teaching, and it was crucial that the student received a good grade for the
There is a student Emma, who has recently graduated from Austin High School, where 90/10 grading system is used; 90% of Emma’s grade is knowledge based with scores such as tests and projects, while her practice work such as homework is worth 10% of her grade. Emma, finds school somewhat easy and since homework was only 10% of her grade, so she often did not bother to do her practice work. Even though she did not do her homework through high school she managed to keep above a 3.00 GPA. When Emma enters college, she is shocked to see that she would have to complete homework, and that it would affect her grade drastically if she didn’t complete her homework. Emma is feeling unprepared and overloaded with work. She is not prepared for college,
One assignment I am including in my portfolio is about a test we had.On the test we had problems about writing and using linear equations, getting m & b, and scatter plots. On the test I had lots of trouble on one problem the problem read the input is triple the output on the section of getting m & b.I had no idea how to do this problem not because I don’t pay attention during class because I do pay attention during class. It’s just that I never understood the worded out problems I only understood the numbered problems.Since all Mrs.Goldstein’s test all al closed notes I studied a lot to get a good grade on the quiz but this time we had a choice to write some notes on a piece of paper. This was a individual test like all the test I have had and
On each test instruction booklet handed to the teachers on test day, there is a section including what to do if a student throws up during a test. For this section to be included, it is obvious that testing has caused students in the past to stress themselves out to the point of being sick. Students are spend most of the year preparing to take one or two big tests in the end. The amount of pressure put on students to succeed on these tests is astronomical, making it impossible to focus on the actual goal of assessing their knowledge. A student in Florida spoke to her school board about the absurd expectations from these tests, “Every year I do good in school, but I get low test scores on the FCAP and it feels like a punch in the stomach. This is unfair and I don't want to lose my opportunity to take my advanced classes or get a better education because of this one test.” (Locker) Some students simply do not test well, others try their hardest and still cannot reach the impracticable standards set for them. The individuals who create these test do not understand the pressures of being a student, or the struggle to answer thirty-five questions in a compressed time period. One test cannot accurately measure the intelligence of a
“For every clever person who goes to the trouble of creating an incentive scheme, there is an army of people, clever and otherwise, who will inevitably spend even more time trying to beat it. Cheating may or may not be human nature, but it is certainly a prominent feature in just about every human endeavor. Cheating is a primordial economic act: getting more or less” (21). This quote is important because it proves how everyone has cheated once. In many cases it is true, people often cheat on tests or even on their diet. Not everyone can live up to their expectations. Some may justify it, others proudly proclaim it, and others will try denying their cheating vigorously. Most people consider cheating as a bad and unwise action. In this novel, it gave two examples of cheaters, school teachers and sumo wrestlers. It shows how both authors can take two different people and still find something similar with both of them, like cheating.
Some students argue that cheating is the easiest, and the best way to get a good grade. For example, you’re up all night doing homework for other classes, but you forgot to study for this one quiz you will have early in the morning for your first period class. You start panicking heavily, becau... ... middle of paper ... ...
Another cause as to why students cheat on tests is because of the testing process. A student that notices other students cheating makes th...
What is cheating? Cheating is the dishonesty of an individual for their personal advantage. Base on various studies conducted cheating is getting worse among students. Students are cheating to get higher grades so that they look smart. Students are even cheating their way into colleges and universities. This is becoming a major problem and it does not only affect students but school administrators, employers and even generations to come. Don McCabe (2010) conducted a survey among 24,000 high school students at 70 high schools in the United States. 64% Of students admitted to cheating on a test, 58% admitted to plagiarism and 95% participated in some form of cheating. For college students, 70% of students, report to some form of cheating.
Apparently, I hate taking risks, but with a test which has high stakes, and my brain is blank, I have to take any chance to improve my grades by 1-2 grade levels, leaving myself susceptible to be ashamed by my instructor publicly. I may get answers from the notes acquired from the previous class and write them on a small piece of paper or use my friend as the supporting agent. A pinch of guilt may stick in the throat for the act, but it quickly gets swallowed with success if you happen to get an A on a math paper when you only struggled with half of the assignment. Educational institutions and teachers give grades undue importance than learning, which is offensively hypocritical and disingenuous. In fact, all educational institutions care about the test scores and high GPAs. It is the same way to try and convince the employees to mind about their obligations than their salaries, which is
In case, it was printed I used to peek through the window glass to know where she would hide it. And whenever my tests approached, I used to enter the room or her laptop inconspicuously to find out the questions. Then, I copied all the documents in my pendrive. After all this I am pretty sure even the wicked students in class can top test. I was not such weird student though.
Deceitfulness and cheating seems normal nowadays because so many people are involved in doing it. Everywhere one looks, some sort of precocious deed is being done. I believe that cheating is wrong and that it goes against what God desires. Along with this, our sense of a moral standard has gone way down. As seen across the globe, cheating in school, life, and everyday tasks has drastically become worse and worse, causing the world to be even more corrupt.
In the United States, one study has shown that 20% of students started cheating in the first grade. Similarly, other studies reveal that currently in the U.S., 56% of middle school students and 70% of high school students have cheated. Also, the storing of information in graphing calculators, pagers, cell phones, and other electronic devices has cropped up since the information revolution began. They don’t even think it’s wrong. Students cheat because of the pressure to succeed.
...ell out and the name I couldn’t remember was staring me in the face. The teacher had not collected my paper yet and I could have just taken it and written the answer and he would have never known the difference. Whether I cheated or not, I still thought about doing it since I did not know the answer. Simply not knowing the material leads students to cheat all of the time.
All over the world people are being accused of cheating in sports, politics, and even relationships, but is cheating really that bad? Some people think that cheating is okay in some cases. I don’t agree with this, as cheating can get you in big trouble if you are caught. It’s really a dishonest way to get to your goal. People should learn that goals set high are accomplished by hard work and persistence.
Many people feel the need to cheat when the subject is something they did not study hard enough for or do not particularly know as well as other things. While it is definitely not the right thing to do, some believe it’s the only way. I do firmly believe it is wrong to cheat a easier path in something, it is wrong that the teachers want to crack down so hard on the kids who are only struggling because it is something in the classroom that is causing them to cheat mainly because it is not understood. Cheating may not always be adapted inside family homes, most of the times it is just accustomed to because one may become desperate to pass the class test or the class in general.
I personally considered the thought of asking for the study guide because my mind immediately started to rationalize the decision and the idea of having a better chance of getting an A in the class. However, the thought of “it’s not really cheating because it is not the actual exam” was soon followed by the feeling of guilt and fear. These feelings stewed in my head because I could not stop thinking about the academic honesty documents that we sign on every exam, which states that we did not use any outside sources that were not openly offered to all other students. If I were to sign that after using the external material I would have been lying on every exam. Someone could have eventually found out and exposed my wrongdoing to the professor, who would then have had to bring it to the board of the college.
