Deceitfulness and cheating seems normal nowadays because so many people are involved in doing it. Everywhere one looks, some sort of precocious deed is being done. I believe that cheating is wrong and that it goes against what God desires. Along with this, our sense of a moral standard has gone way down. As seen across the globe, cheating in school, life, and everyday tasks has drastically become worse and worse, causing the world to be even more corrupt. A common place where cheating and deception is prevalent is in school. Whether it is in grade school, high school, or college, the amount of dishonesty that takes place there is remarkable. When it comes to quizzes or tests, teachers do their best to prevent it. However, students still find …show more content…
There was an event in the past that happened to me where a lot of students got caught for plagiarism. It was in AP Literature class and all the students were required to do chapter summaries on this certain book. We had all semester to finish this, but ninety percent of us procrastinated in doing it. The last week of the semester came around and a lot of us panicked because we did not know what to do. Being that it was the last week of the semester, the tests and quizzes were happening, which made us overwhelmed and stressed out. So when it came to doing the chapter summaries on that book, almost all of us did not want to do the work. We decided to go on SparkNotes to get the chapter summaries, rewording the phrases and doing our best to make it seem like we actually read. Finally, the assignment was finished. Two weeks past after turning it in and around thirty of us were busted with plagiarism, including myself. We all got a zero on our assignment and a majority of us were put on probation because we were on National Honors Society. I definitely learned from that experience that I have to do my own work instead of relying on other people to do my work for me. This form a cheating is seen everywhere across the globe. The great thing about it is that teachers are cracking down more on plagiarism. In college, students are getting kicked out of school or losing jobs because of it. …show more content…
Everywhere one looks, some sort of mischief is going on. A common type that happens everyday is stealing. Whether it is stealing from the local grocery store or from the gas station, the place is getting cheated out of their business. It is unfair for those businesses to provide for the needs of the people without getting paid for it. Another common place where this is found is in the work systems. For some jobs, people are laid off because the business has some sort of problem. This causes workers, who are doing their best to provide for their family, to be jobless. Along with this, many illegal immigrants have jobs in the United States. Many people that do not have jobs in the United States are looking for jobs while illegal immigrants already have jobs and they are not even part of this country. This is unfair because these immigrants should not have these rights whatsoever. Cheating is a common way that people thrive in today’s world and it is extremely sad to
Over all, this book shows how common and how serious plagiarism can be. It taught me how lives were ruined by plagiarism, and how it can be intentional or accidental. One important difference between the people in these stories and myself is that I get a second chance, and I am very happy that Parish was nice enough to give me that.
That stomach churning feeling of guilt for many seems to appear as a small price to pay when completing an act of academic dishonesty. Colleen Wenke wrote an essay on cheating eighteen years ago called “Too Much Pressure”. In the past fifty years, the number of students who admit to cheating has increased fifty to seventy percent(Gaffe). Many people wonder what leads the students to make this unjust decision. Today, the reason for a rise in cheaters is because of how easy it has become, leading many students to the false conclusion that they aren’t breaking any rules; It is simply viewed as a shortcut to success in the classroom and beyond.

“For every clever person who goes to the trouble of creating an incentive scheme, there is an army of people, clever and otherwise, who will inevitably spend even more time trying to beat it. Cheating may or may not be human nature, but it is certainly a prominent feature in just about every human endeavor. Cheating is a primordial economic act: getting more or less” (21). This quote is important because it proves how everyone has cheated once. In many cases it is true, people often cheat on tests or even on their diet. Not everyone can live up to their expectations. Some may justify it, others proudly proclaim it, and others will try denying their cheating vigorously. Most people consider cheating as a bad and unwise action. In this novel, it gave two examples of cheaters, school teachers and sumo wrestlers. It shows how both authors can take two different people and still find something similar with both of them, like cheating.

In the past, being caught cheating was a source of great shame, but now expected. There are few things that make me as angry as cheating. I, and many others, put so much effort into doing something the right way, and along comes someone who could be good – perhaps not great, but good – and they shoot some drugs into their body, pay someone to write a paper, or claim a dead relative on their taxes as a dependent. For every cheater who comes out on top there are more who tried to do the right thing and miss out on scholarships, sponsors, and that one coveted slot at the Olympic
Cheating is a big issue that has reached the most competitive campuses around the United States. It is increasing more and more with the new technology that we have in the 21st century because students have easy access to many sources of information. Cheating is something all students have done at some point in their lives, but as they reach a higher academic level, they are faced with more rigorous consequences that can affect their futures in many different ways. Cheating might be seen as an easy way to obtain a good grade, get into a good college, or maintain scholarships or financial aid, but the consequences could affect the life and the future of the student.
People say cheating has so many forms, but the worst one would be cheating in a relationship. A cheater is someone who cheats on his partner; someone who systematically betrays his partner either on a physical or emotional level. About a week ago I thought cheating was okay, but now I realize the harm it could cause to their significant other. True love doesn’t hurt, true love protects, and cares. Cheating can cause someone to have a mental break down, and leads to a complete loss of respect. When it comes to relationships, remaining faithful is never an option; loyalty is everything.
Modern students face many pressures for academic success. They are often unwilling to disappoint their parents or spouses. Some fear that not cheating will weaken a student’s ability to compete with their peers. They rationalize their unethical behavior, unwilling to accept a poor grade, consequently justifying cheating as the only means to that end.
People are discussing if cheating is okay or if its bad. Even though some people may think its ok because it can give you a thrill, or help your emotions in good ways. But cheating is not okay because it can ruin your future, it can make cheating become a habit for all kids, and kids fall behind in their academic career. To begin, cheating is egregious becasue it can ruin your future. In "talking about
Cheating can set a pattern that can lead to a practice of lying that may involve more serious matters. In the first place, the harmlessness of cheating is notoriously disputable. What the cheater perceives as harmless or even beneficial may not be so in the eyes of the deceived.

No matter how the situation would have turned out I would have never been able to say all my hard work paid off, I did this, and I got this excellent grade on my own maybe with some tutoring! I didn’t feel right about the choice I made because it was wrong and also plagiarism. I surely don’t want “plagiarism” to be ever named among me and nor would any of my friends! On the other hand dealing with cheating in an organization can be just as stressful.
Sophomore year I also sparknoted the entirety of the Odyssey. I have come to realize that cheating is cheating, no matter how many points you gain from it, but still may send certain amounts of homework to stressed friends in
Plagiarism is a serious offense and a growing trend in our society today. Some may associate plagiarism with the idea of taking someone else’s writing and making it their own. In fact plagiarism involves anything that is copied or taken and said to be of your own work. Dictionary.com defines plagiarism as “the unauthorized use or close imitation of the language and thoughts of another author and the representation of them as one's own original work, as by not crediting the author”. In fact this definition covers all types of cheating and misrepresentation of ones own work. There are many numbers and statistics that can be found on the amount of individuals that have admitted to cheating. Perhaps the most astounding number is one that was reported by Moeck in 2002 aloft of 40% of higher education students commit academic dishonesty. This number I’m sure has grown since this report and will continue to grow with the development of the Internet. There are a number of ideas and strategies that can be employed in order to stop this ever-growing phenomenon. As teachers and adults, we are responsible for stopping this trend and educating students about the consequences and dangers of plagiarism. I believe there are a variety of reasons individuals plagiarize. First, students are insecure with their own ability; they don’t believe they can do the work therefore they take others. Second, students believe they can get away with the act because they know others who have plagiarized, and there were not any consequences. Lastly, students are uneducated on what plagiarism is and do not know the consequences of their actions if they commit an act. These ideas will be the focus of the position taken on plagiarism in today’s academic society.
