In the modern era, gun violence seems very common when one opens a newspaper or watches the news on the television. I’m some of the acts of violence, guns were used and some of the weapons listed by the media that look like military weapons are named “assault weapons” or “assault rifle”. As time goes on, more weapons like these keep appearing in the news, assisting criminals with their terrible crimes. As a result, the debate on banning assault rifles has risen. The situations where these types of weapons are being used by animals are a perfect reason why assault rifle should not be banned.
Assault rifles should not be banned because assault rifles can help civilians defend themselves until law enforcement arrives. When a civilian is in a situation where an armed home invasion occurs, one can defend themselves from an armed criminal and hold the criminals back until law enforcement arrives. For an example, during an armed robbery of a bank, the criminals committing these heinous acts will always have an advantage and this advantage will make criminals more confident to commit more armed crimes because they know no one will stand up against them at the moment of the crime. If the armed criminals knew that people inside the bank had possibly armed personnel equipped with an assault rifle then these criminals might be deterred from trying to commit an armed crime, where there might be resistance. Sometimes the presence of an assault rifle being used to protect “easy to target sites” is enough to prevent a single bullet from being fired by criminals because they know that they can’t easily take advantage knowing that there will be resistance.
