Imagine... you are driving down the street to see your loving family. You stop at a gas station and a guy comes in. He has a bandana and bad intentions. All of a sudden, he loads a pistol and aims it towards you. What are your options? Try to visualize, a guy going to see his wife and kids, but when out of nowhere a person pulls you aside and then points a pistol at you. Over the course of years, ninety-three United States citizens are killed with guns. Due to these reasons, it seems it is necessary to get rid of guns because of the 21,175 suicides, 505 deaths due to accidental/ negligent discharge of a firearm. Guns should be banned for civilian use, due to too many deaths from unregistered users, misuse, and increased crime rate. For instance, …show more content…
In addition, there is a total of 381.9 million people in the United States now there are 325 million people left. On “worldmeter.info” it shows how many people are left in 2017. An opposing viewer would say that “Guns should be allowed because it can protect people who intrude on your house.” The reason why Guns should not be allowed is because let's say an intruder enters your house and you do shoot him, but when the police come they are going to want the evidence that he intruded your house you are stuck with the police. In other words, unsecured guns have turned toddlers into killers - and many more into vitamins. There are innocent kids out there who shot their friend by accident without knowing what the gun does. On thetrace.org it shows us how many people have died in the world. On the other hand, Guns don't kill, but we kill and that is what the opposing viewpoint would say. Even though we are the ones who kill is still not good and I say that because we are killing because we are angry or depressed. We are killing because of something dumb there are too many deaths so far, and people don't realize they are killing God’s creation and God did not teach us to do
The problem here arises that the gun itself cannot kill people, but the people who own it to use it as a weapon to kill another person. In addition, not all gun owners are criminals, so the confiscation of guns is not the optimal solution. In the essay “Just Take Away Their Guns”, James Q. Wilson said “There are some 200 million guns in private ownership, about one-third of them handguns. Only about 2 percent of the latter are employed to commit crimes” (Wilson). That means for every 100 people owning guns, only 2 people use it to perform criminal acts. Not all gun owners are criminals, the majority of people own guns for self-defense purpose. Therefore, the most important thing that the government needs to do is to closely manage the buying / selling guns rather than just take them away from people. If a person wants to buy a gun, he or she needs to have a background checked, provide an appropriate reason to buy it. On the other hand, the police should reward to anyone who discover the illegal use of firearms. For the past twelve years, police department data shows that officer made more than five million stop, but the number of illegal guns were found only 0.02 percent (Badger). Also, shootings aren’t decreasing by nearly enough to justify the increase in stops and frisks. From 2002, shootings in New York City have only decreased by 3.9% (Policy
According to The Chicago Tribune “Close to 3,000 people have been shot in Chicago so far this year.”In 2016 chicago homicide rate was at an all time high, last year there have been reported 762 people died from gun violence,”3,550 shooting incidents, and 4,331 shooting victims.”Hundreds of people have died from gun violence every year and also a portion of the murder rate is made up of innocent people that have also died from a firearm violence. Also in the united states the number of fatalities from a firearm were “33,594” according to the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention.I believe we should ban the use of firearms because the number of people that die or get injured from a firearm keeps dangerously increasing each year.
Right now the government has limited firearm purchasing only to people who pass certain steps. Gun control has risen as a controversial subject in the United States today. Many say gun control or banning of all firearms will help protect and make our country a better place. Reasons many are wanting to ban firearms are that the 2nd amendment is out dated and unjustified in this date and time. Writer Eugene Robinson states that “farmers wrote of “arms,” thinking about muskets and single shot pistols. They could not have foreseen modern rifles or high-capacity magazines.” Many agree with Mr. Robinson saying that back when the constitution was written they couldn’t have understood what was going to come in the future. Citizens also believe people have no reason to fight against intruders that come in their home that’s what the authorities are for. If people what to defend themselves why waste the money and time on having police? In this day and age why have weapons why not cut out all firearms and just be one happy country, it’s that simple, but is it really that simple? (“Assault Weapons Must Be Banned in
For many years, America has witnessed mass shootings within it’s borders. In 2015 alone, there were 372 mass shootings (Oldham). The question most Americans are faced with is: do we need more gun control or is gun control the problem? With more gun control, it can be made mandatory that protective devices are used on firearms to prevent accidental harm. Gun control creates mandatory laws such as the requirement for an individual to pass a background check before he/she is permitted to purchase a firearm. Gun control has also been proven to prevent suicides due to the increased difficulty of obtaining a firearm. Those who believe that gun control is the problem claim that by removing one 's firearms, you are endangering them to threats that
In the United States, there is a famous saying to justify gun ownership “Guns don’t kill people, people kill people.” It is true that the person with the gun is the one who is doing the killing but the gun makes it easier to have a massacre. However guns are useful for police, security, and military so they could protect themselves and everyone around them. Americans are not obsessed with guns; the American people are tired that their 2nd amendment rights are being violated. Police violate the citizen right to bare arm and will detain them. The sell of guns are being banned in some states, which makes it harder for citizen to own a gun. When someone chooses to carry a knife for protection the law will try to violate his or her right.
Today in the United States many people argue over the fact of guns being legal or illegal. There are people using guns for personal safety and there are others who use them for crimes, as well as for other situations. Firearm deaths in the United States have slowly been decreasing from year to year with all these bills getting passed to promote a safer country than ever before. Guns are the main weapon for youth suicide, school shootings, and for committing murder. In 2010 there were 2,711 infants, child, and teenage firearm deaths. As in school shootings and in committing murder, studies show shooters often had multiple, non-automatic guns, shootings were planned, most youth tell before shooting, shooters have a history of being bullied or threatened, shooters have mental issues, and shooters have done suicidal gestures before (Gun Control with School Shootings). Although there are people who use guns for murdering, there are also those who oppose guns being used without the proper requirements. 85% of all respondents to the survey supporting requiring states to report people to national background-checks systems who are prohibited from owning gu...
Crime rate in the United States has been at an all-time high in the past few years. According to the Mass Shooting Tracker, there have been 372 mass shootings in the US in 2015, killing 475 people and wounding 1,870. According to the gun violence archive, 13,286 people were killed in the US by firearms in 2015, and 26,819 people were injured. As you can see, 2015 was a big year with gun violence in the United States and since then nothing has changed, to this day we are still seeing these statistics for death by guns in the United States. Instead of the government focusing on gun control laws, I believe that they should look at different alternatives. Some of these alternatives could be to register citizens with aggressive mental disabilities and emotional instabilities and increase research for effective treatments and cures because in most of these cases the shooters have been found to have a mental disability. We can also abolish gun-free zones apart from schools, banks, mass transit hubs, hospitals, and government buildings so that concealed carry is legal in these zones. The government can enforce stricter punishments for crimes committed with a deadly weapon and more laws protecting citizens who are forced to use a firearm in self-defense. So, in the case of a civilian using
Several people postulate that handguns should be banned because they believe that the weapon is the genuine cause of any harm done. These people also argue that banning handguns has lowered the crime rate in a multitude of countries, therefore it would benefit the united states. Due to the fact that minorities are less likely to own a handgun, there if the belief that banning handguns may also stop the death of minorities in America. However, handguns should be available with certain precursors because the blame shouldn’t be put onto the weapon, and owning a gun is a second amendment right in the constitution.
Imagine receiving the news that a loved one or someone you care about has had a tragic or a misfortunate accident in consequence of a gun; this can happen to anyone in the reach of a weapon. Misuse of Guns in America is an irresponsibility of people misusing and abusing the authority of a gun. Americans in the U.S buy and obtain guns all the time; of course, there are background checks done for the people purchasing them, but who knows what that person will do with a weapon this present day, and that does not mean the will be the only one who uses it.The rate of guns being misused by irresponsible people in America is not safe for U.S citizens. Those domestic abusers, criminals, and who are dangerously mentally ill and others should be denied
What would be flashing through your mind if you were at a coffee shop and a maniacal psychopath appeared and began firing at innocent people? At your family? You would be afraid for yourself and the lives of those most precious to you; but would you be thinking that if the government made guns illegal, this would never have happened? Certainly not! You would have probably thought that if you were permitted a handgun, you could not only have protected your family and yourself, but others around you as well. Many people are asking whether carrying guns are a helpful tool that many of us have been saying they are. Some people think handguns are the cause to the many crimes and injuries. Others say that our society would be safer without citizens carrying guns out on the streets. In my views, I am convinced that guns help in disasters when help is so far away. Not only that, but guns have already been permitted in all fifty states except Washington DC. Rather than restricting guns and gun owners, we should be given the freedom to have the ability to carry guns in order to protect ourselves and others around us through the use of firearms.
“A gun is a tool. It has no emotion or feelings. It cannot make decisions or take action. It does not know hate. It does not discriminate, take sides, or judge others. It is morally neutral. It is no better or worse than any other tool. A gun has no action without a user. Remember that” -Anonymous. As our world seems to grow increasingly violent, and mass shootings seem commonplace, many government leaders are pushing for certain gun laws that would ban the public from owning firearms of any sort. This is wrong, because as United States citizens, we have the right to bear arms. Despite a recent increase in gun violence within the United States, government leaders should not create laws which would restrict gun usage, should it involve magazine capacity, concealed carry, or the eradication of assault weapons for the public.
Many people believe that guns are needed for protection, While some think you need guns to protect yourself and your home, The truth is guns are used more for violent crimes than self-defense. In reality the reason so much killing is going around is because of gun violence. Research shows that more than 30,000 people are killed by firearms each year in this country. Banning guns is the best because it has been proven that more guns in circulation will cause more homicides, In other words banning guns would make the community much safer.
One amazing quote in the second amendment of the U.S constitution states that, “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.”[1] Not only does the U.S constitution protect citizens ' rights to bare arms, but the Ohio constitution states in article 1 section 4 that: “The people have the right to bare arms for their defense and security.”[2] In this research paper I will argue why firearms should be kept legal for everyone in the U.S. Guns should be kept legal because they have become a foundation of the modern world in all militaries and the citizens, considering that someone hears news about guns every day. Firearms need to be kept as legal since they have helped people save themselves and many other people every day. Even though crimes are being committed, would make guns illegal solve problems? No. People will find ways to acquire what they want no matter what if they are determined enough causing more corruption, making it will be unsafe for responsible users of guns because they only use their guns for self-defense. We need to find ways to keep guns,
In the last couple of years, 19,392 or more committed suicides with guns. In 2014 1.6 percent of 100,000 killed themselves with guns from ages 16 to 17 years old. The gun suicide rate is still growing, last year there were 15,549 suicides by guns. The highest percentage of suicides are teens with firearms. In 2016 more than half of the suicides are with firearms. Teen suicide rates have gone up over the last five years, but it’s not only in teens. all suicides rates have gone up, most of this suicides are done with firearms. In the united states today, lots of families at least have one gun per house, but what people don't realize is that it gives people the easy way out. In some states, it’s very easy to register for a gun and get one. Guns make it very easy because you just have to pull the trigger. Also, people have murder-suicides, where they take others lives then take their own. There have been many murder-suicides, most are done with guns. In 2016 one father killed his wife, 5-year-old daughter, and 17 month-old daughter. After killing them, he took his own life, he did all this with a firearm. If we had more gun control, then if he had tried to get a gun he could not because he had a mental issue. He had left the family a few months before and had just recently had come back. They believe he got the gun when he left and was planning this. This is not the only murder-suicides using a firearm there have been many, and we
There are many points that can be argued about whether guns should be legal or not on the topic of gun control. I think guns should be legal due to the lack of self-defense people are left with in dangerous situations and have no way of protecting themselves. Though with many pros on the subject come many cons. There are many crimes in today’s society and with those crimes innocent people are involved, but sometimes guns are used improperly that’s why the U.S. should legalize guns, but with a strict restraint against how they have to be stored and carried.
