Argumentative Essay: Should Assault Weapons Be Banned

People that have lost their lives, might have lost their lives from not being able to defend himself with a gun. Many people have been debating about how assault weapons should be banned. They are trying to prevent gun violence by banning the guns, which hasn’t worked very well. First, the laws that have been passed to try to prevent gun violence. Next, many people think these guns are bad because of their looks. Finally, the criminals should be stopped because they are the ones actually controlling the gun. The gun violence being lowered has been attempted by passing laws.


Many laws have been passed to lower the amount of gun violence that occurs. According to Lois Beckett, “ weapon ban... law allowed… to keep their weapons,” which means when the law was signed, all the criminals who had already an assault weapon could keep it. That’s not the only problem with some gun bans. According to Lois Beckett, “ the ban had [not] contributed to the decline,” which means that before the ban expired, it had worked, but after the ban the crimes went right back to where they were to begin with. That’s not the only thing that is misunderstood of rifles. According to Adam Winkler, “Many people mistake these firearms for machine guns,” which means people think that these guns can fire multiple rounds of ammunition by just pulling the trigger. Military rifles aren’t the only guns killing people.
