Are mistakes truly a key part of discovery? I believe mistakes are a key part of discovery.Some people might argue they aren’t and you can discover lots of things without making mistakes but I think you can also discover more things with mistakes involved. Firstly,mistakes can be bad but they can also be good and lead to major discoveries.For example,in the first story,Heinrich Schliemann thought he knew exactly where the ancient city of Troy was so he started digging up trenches of dirt.He did make a mistake and dug too close and although artifacts were broken,he and Frank Calvert still found many unbroken artifacts and discovered where Troy had been.In conclusion,mistakes can do bad things but people can get some good things out of it,like big discoveries. Secondly,mistakes can lead to discovery and even not do anything bad to artifacts or anything.For example,in the second story,Percy Spencer had made a Magnetron and while standing near it,he noticed his chocolate in his pocket melted.He then had a moment of realization and asked for some popcorn kernels and put them near the heat.A few minutes later,he had officially made

It’s okay, because humans design technology therefor technology is not perfect because humans are not perfect either. Throughout Michael Crichton’s book he progressively makes his characters go through a lot of events in which technology failure and human error occur probably to induce a thrill, also to continue to be realistic with his novel, since it is science fiction. It is realistic because human error and technology failure occur every day in the real world. Not usually do they decide life or death, unlike in The Andromeda Strain. Where the errors that occurred were putting many lives at a high risk of danger. The scientists are working with an extremely dangerous contaminant at first before the organism mutates into a different organism. The lab was not foolproof for that type of organism since the world had not even been exposed to it before and knew nothing about it. Therefor the reader almost comes in reading the novel knowing that some type of mechanical or technology failure will occur as well as human error. It was a first time for those scientists so it was very obvious that the mission would be extremely sloppy, and readers can just assume that because they know how often errors occur in everyday life for humans and

By studying these works, we can gain insight into ancient cultures, and even hypothesize about the past. If a work is highly historically accurate in other respects, it might lead one to believe that the other accounts in the work are accurate. Through this method, we may discover some of history through works of literature, history that records may not contain. Yet through this method we can only speculate, we cannot be certain of the accuracy of our results.
People may say that mistakes just hold scientists back and provide obstacles. John Denker says, “scientists worked to avoid mistakes.” He says that scientists did not just make one mistake that led to a big discovery, but they invented their products little by little, trying to make it perfect. In Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, the concept of "discovery" is paradoxical: initial discovery is joyful and innocent, but ends in misery and corruption. The ambitions of both Walton and Frankenstein (to explore new lands and to cast scientific light on the unknown, respectively) are formed with the noblest of intentions but a fatal disregard for the sanctity of natural boundaries. Though the idea of discovery remains idealized, human fallibility utterly corrupts all pursuit of that ideal. The corruption of discovery parallels the corruption inherent in every human life, in that a child begins as a pure and faultless creature, full of wonder, but hardens into a self-absorbed, grasping, overly ambitious adult. Only by novel's end does Walton recognize that he must abandon his own ambition (the mapping of previously uncharted land), out of concern for the precious lives of his crew.
Throughout Frankenstein it is evident that Victor and Robert express their thirst for knowledge, which often leads to destruction. Through analyzing Frankenstein it is possible to find many examples that illustrate the fact that wanting to have more knowledge can be extremely dangerous. Firstly, as Victor is creating life he is able to create a humanoid monster, unfortunately he is appalled by his creation and becomes very ill. Afterwards, when Victor is completing the female companion for his original creation, Victor realizes that this will only create more destruction. Finally, as Walton is on a journey to the North Pole he encounters difficulties that nearly kill him and his crew. This shows that Victor and Walton are repeatedly searching for more knowledge even though it is dangerous.

An article by Robert I. Sutton of the Harvard Business Review, talks about a method of learning from failures. Dr. Everett Piper describes in the article ‘This is Not a Day Care. It’s a University!’ that students who do not repent their sins can not learn from them. In the speech ‘This is Water’, by David Wallace he explains how learning to think is in a way knowing what to think about. An article by Bob Lenz titled ‘Failure Is Essential to Learning’ addresses the notion that failure is a key importance in the process of learning. Everyone, at some point in their life, has made a mistake. Sometimes we get lucky and only falter a little, making it through the problem relatively intact. Other times, we mess up a lot and have to fix what was damaged over a long period of time. However, the same is true for most, if not all cases—those who make the mistake learn from it. Often times, our failures teach us valuable lessons that we only gained because of the experience we gathered after messing up. I have personally achieved a wealth of knowledge and experience just from all of my own little mishaps, and a few major ones.
