Would you like to live in a segregated country, with limited rights and freedoms? I wouldn't think so. Nelson Mandela is a hero. Why you might ask, well, he freed a country from apartheid, he received the noble peace prize and he became president of South Africa.

One reason Nelson Mandela is a hero is because he freed South Africa from apartheid. South Africa was a segregated country back ten, which made it unfair to black people, so Mandela stepped in to try and stop it. He joined an anti-apartheid organization to fight back to the South African government for their rights. He also became the leader of the organization he joined and became a huge part of freeing South Africa from apartheid.

Another reason Nelson Mandela is a hero is that he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize because of his heroic actions to free South Africa. The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded to people who do heroic things to help the community be more safe and positive, and Nelson Mandela received this for exchange of what he did. Also, the Nobel Peace Prize is recognized worldwide as a prize with huge honor.

However, there are many reasons that still make him a hero. For example, Nelson Mandela did free a country from a terrible time, and he kept on trying until he was able to free South Africa and make it a better country. He was also a huge part of giving rights to the black people of South Africa, which made the country a better place for the citizens. Nelson Mandela also went to jail during an unfair time, so he really wasn't guilty of anything, the government just did not want him trying to end their current form of ruling. So, Nelson Mandela has done so many things that were beneficial to South Africa, that the bad things he did are nothing compared to the great things he has
