Do you watch football? If so I am sure you have heard of the Green Bay Packers, and if you have heard of them, i’m sure you know who Aaron Rodgers is. I believe he is a hero and have research to back it up… but do you? Throughout history, many heroes have affected society for the better. Aaron Rodgers is a significant hero. This is seen through his passion, determination, and leadership skills. While he may not be saving lives, chasing bad guys, or changing the world he holds many heroic traits that I think should qualify him for being a hero, as he is too many people. The first thing I think of when I think heroic characteristics of Aaron Rodgers is his passion for football. Aaron has been passionate about football since he was very young. …show more content…
Bio.com states, that at the young age of three he would already sit and watch whole football games with intense focus and a ready understanding of the game. Also, by five years old, he could throw a football through a hanging tire swing and identify any and all formations used by the San Francisco, California 49ers. This passion for the game is what drove him to get better at the game he loves and put the practice in so he could get himself drafted into the NFL by the Packers in 2005. When Aaron Rodgers is on the field he just always has a good time, it’s not so much of a job for him as you can tell from this quote of his after a great victory, “Someone asked me if I was nervous before I went in. I was like, 'What do I have to be nervous about?' It was a lot of fun out there” (thinkexist.com). While Aaron has an obvious passion for football, he also has a fierce determination. One of the next major characteristics I think of when I think of him is determination and how well he overcomes challenges. Aaron overcame many challenges in all stages of his life. Gale’s March Article, tells us that Aaron pushed himself to athletic excellence to keep up with his brother Luke, who was a little over a year older than Aaron. He was absolutely tiny in high school, and at the start of his freshman year he weighed 130 pounds and standing at a short 5’ 2. Jockbio.com says, that despite the challenge of overcoming his size, Aaron still managed to earn the starting quarterback position his Junior year of high school with intense work. The march article about Gale group also tells us, that despite his failing to get a scholarship for football out of high school he managed to get a scholarship to California after attending Butte College and finally getting noticed. Aaron Rodgers also had to overcome the pressure that Green Bay Packer fans were putting on him to replace Brett Favre, he was constantly booed and the fans wanted Favre back, all he had to say about this was, “The only reason they were talking about that is they were expecting us to have a losing season. And I don't. So I just hope nothing gets to that point because that'd be tough for both of us” (thinkexist.com). Aaron Rodgers is very determined, but I believe one of his most heroic qualities is leadership. The other main characteristic I see in Aaron Rodgers is that he has always had a natural instinct of leadership and even as a kid, he displayed the qualities of a great leader.
As a kid he sometimes let his leadership be a little too strong and got a little bit bossy. As Jockbio.com states, he was frequently scolded in school for bossing his classmates around in sports and other group activities. Many times his teammates would try to get Aaron to change plays in the huddle, one of his greatest dilemmas was a play a teammate wanted to change, but Aaron made a justified decision and later explained with this simple statement, “I had a dilemma. Ferguson kept telling me to change the play in the huddle to a go route. But I couldn't do that” (thinkexist.com). This is something I credit to his leadership skills. In his NFL career, though, this leader like way of his doing things was a great asset to the Green Bay Packers team. With his contribution of skill, talent, and leadership he led the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl win in …show more content…
2011. So while some people may not believe he is a true hero, Aaron Rodgers has many heroic traits that earn him the respect of many people who watch the Green Bay Packers games or even if they just know Aaron in general.
In this essay I have only shown three, but there are so many more and the traits of a hero are not only restricted to people who save lives, chase bad guys, or change the world. He overcame constant pressures with his determination, led a whole team with his outstanding leadership, and never gave up thanks to his passion. He is a hero to many, no cape, or superpowers needed. So now it’s up to you, is he, or is he not, a
hero.
Every generation has its own heroes that display, what they believe to be, ideal characteristics. While each is different in their own way, many of these role models share similar qualities. Most tend to have courage, strength, compassion, or another respected trait, but this is not necessarily why they win the adoration of their followers.
Who is a hero? In contemporary times, usage of the term has become somewhat of a cliché. Over the years, the term “hero” has become representative of a wide variety of individuals, each possessing differing traits. Some of the answers put forth by my colleagues (during our in-class discussion on heroism) as to whom they consider heroes pointed to celebrities, athletes, teachers and family members. Although the occupations differed, each of their heroes bore qualities that my classmates perceived as extraordinary, whether morally or physically. Nonetheless, Webster’s defines “hero” as “a person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities.” Thus, it is worth considering that individuals become heroes relative to the situation with which they’re faced.
... is not simply defined by his/her strength or looks; it is also their inner strength and beauty that is truly important. A hero can have many qualities but when they show true understanding for something even without proper education, they are accepting of those around them, and breaking rules when the time is at its most important. While there are true heroes, there are also anti-heroes which have the opposite qualities that of the true hero. Furthermore, there are many kinds of heroes but a true hero is defined by inner qualities that of outer qualities.
Being a hero means to be willing to risk your life for others. Such as, Pat Tillman. Pat Tillman was a fantastic football player and he loved playing it too. Despite that, Pat Tillman turned down a 3.6million dollar contract to the Arizona Cardinals to go fight the war against terrorism. He ended up dieing from friendly fire. All this goes to show how brave Pat Tillman was to risk his life and give up his football career to go fight in Afghanistan to help protect the American people. Likewise, the people that helped evacuate New York City after the
Dictionaries’ definitions of the word hero are exceedingly vague. A standard dictionary limits the definition of a hero to, “a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities” (Dictionary.com). Heroes are people, not just men, who are generous, courageous, and take every event as part of the whole stream of life rather than as a critical moment. Humanity, endurance, and perseverance are other critical characteristics of a deserving candidate for such a title.
Most of the heroes today encompass at least these three qualities. Many movie characters will have one or two of these characteristics but may not have all three. If the character does have the three, they are usually not simultaneous. These qualities are hard to embrace in the world today. Anyone that can integrate compassion, courage, and loyalty in one personality is a true hero.
Over the course of history the definition of what makes a hero has made many changes. Beowulf, Superman, and firefighters are all examples of heroes, but they are very different when broken down. Today’s society defines a hero by his values, his strength, and his journey.
Anyone could be a hero. Age, race, religion, and personalities do not limit one from being a hero. A hero is someone people admire for their actions. One moment they could be admired by people, in another moment, they could be despised. Donald Trump is a fine example of this.
What defines a hero? Is it the amount of courage and individual has that makes them a hero? Could a person become known as a hero simply from their achievement? Are noble qualities required of a person that is considered to be hero? The definition of a hero lies in the eye of the beholder. In my eyes, Hershel ‘Woody’ Williams displayed amazing courage, accomplished outstanding achievements, and had noble qualities, and that is why I believe that Hershel “Woody” Williams was a true hero.
A man who spent 20 years trying to get home. A father who took his own life for his family. A woman who risked her life to free strangers. True heroes give anything they can for the sake of other, something as small as a helping hand, or something as big as losing their own life. Heroes aren't bullies, they won't push you down just for their entertainment, they will pull you up back onto your feet. There are many types of heroes we all consider, Odysseus and Harriet Tubman are obvious while Rumpelstiltskin isn't as clear to see. Most of the time, heroes are not the stereotypical ones found in stories; real traits that define a hero are love towards one another, selflessness for others, and a strong devotion for what they believe in.
Those characteristic traits are what I think makes a hero. We come in contact with heroes everyday. We may not know they’re heroes but whether we know or not doesn’t matter as long as the person they protected believes they are a hero. Just like the people serving our country...heroes, they are pure, true heroes. They have the courage to serve, they have the integrity to serve for America’s morals, they have the fidelity to keep their promises made to this country, and they have the determination to stand and fight for the United States of America. To me those qualities make a
I consider a hero someone that has done great things. There are different opinions in what a hero is but to me , being a hero is one who accomplishes hard goals, standing up for their own rights, doing things that are extraordinary. Muhammad Ali-Cassius Clay is someone that fills my standards of a hero. Muhammad Ali has accomplished hard goals by getting medals in the Olympics. Muhammad Ali had to stand up for his rights when he started to box. He has accomplished things in his life that would be very hard for me to accomplish. Muhammad Ali has done things that I think are very magnificent. The thing Muhammad Ali has done makes him a hero to me.
Some examples from the text have gave me the conclusion that he is no hero, but he is cowardly. Even a back stabber, at some moments. He hides behind closed doors, instead of standing up to try to make a difference. His attempts of heroism are not actions that would result in any changes of the social system.
When I think of a hero I immediately think of someone who is strong, intelligent, handsome, and daring. Upon closer examination, many different qualities than these become apparent. Courage, honesty, bravery, selflessness, and the will to try are just a few of the overlooked qualities of a hero. The definition of heroism changes with the context and time. Heroes of the past are not necessarily heroes of present time and vise versa.
To better understand what a heroic quality is it may be easier to describe what a hero is not. Nearly everyday on television people talk of athletes and celebrities as being heroes, but are they? To put it mildly, they are not heroes at all. Possibly role models, but for the most part, not in possession of heroic qualities. When Michael Jordan and Bruce Willis, by risking their lives, save an abandoned child from a typhoon they will possess the qualities to be called heroes in my opinion. Policemen and firemen are at times classified as heroes. Until they prove themselves they are just ordinary people. The title heroic is not given by occupation, rather by achievement.
