Movie Analysis: White Chicks If you’re a fan of crime and comedy then White Chicks is the perfect film for you! White Chicks was a hit film from 2004 directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans. The top stars in White Chicks include Terry Crews as Latrell Spencer, Marlon Wayans as Marcus Copeland, and Shawn Wayans as Kevin Copeland. The movie begins as the main characters, African-American FBI agents Marcus Copeland and Kevin Copeland spoil a drug bust. In return to spoiling the drug bust the agents are forced to escort caucasian celebrity girls to the Hamptons where they are going to be used as bait for a planned kidnapping. The celebrity girls get wind of the FBI’s plan and refuse to go. After refusing to go, the agents have no other choice but go …show more content…
undercover as the girls and become the bait.
The entertainment value of White Chicks is one of its strongest values. White Chicks is a film that gets right into the plot from the first scene. The beginning starts as the main characters, FBI agents spoil a drug bust and then quickly get put on the hot seat by their advisors and then sent to due grunt work. Just like the plot is initiated from the first scene, so is the humor. In the opening scene in the movie, the agents are undercover posing as mexican beverage shop owners. As the potential drug bust candidates walk through the door to sell ice cream the agents start playing the maracas and speaking in terrible spanish accents to offset suspicion. Most of the humor comes from when the agents are dressed as people they are not such as shop owners or the girls. Humor can also been seen when the agents were dressed up as the girls and find themselves in dressing rooms with the girls friends and even trying on thongs were they will get wedgied by the girls friends and hurt their crotch. Or even when the agents dress as girls and go on a car ride with more friends and sing “Making my way downtown” even though they do …show more content…
not know the lyrics. The most hilarious part of the movie for me was when the girls had gotten volunteered to be auctioned off on a date to the winner of the auction. It’s clear to say that the main characters Kevin Copeland and Marcus Copeland have chemistry in the comedic sphere which brings a lot of humor into the film. The film also has a crime theme which will allow for TR sequences such as the first scene where the agents pull their masks off as mexican shop owners and pull out their badges on the ice cream salesmen who they think are drug dealers. TR sequences also can also be found in scenes like the one where Latrell Spencer takes one of the agents dressed as the girls home and tries to get to second base but is interrupted by the pitbull who can clearly sense something is wrong. White Chicks is a movie that's main focus is in entertainment such as comedy so the intelligence value in this movie lacks. As explained previously, White Chicks is a film that gets right to the point and sticks to the point even though there is a series of curveballs thrown at the agents while they try to pull off their task of arresting the kidnappers such as being hit on by several males at an “all-white party” where the agents break disguise and use their deep voices to scare the males off. Plot twists in the movie can also be seen when the actors have to hold the mold of their disguise by doing things that weren't on the agenda such as going on dates with Latrell Spencer and going shopping with a group of females or even singing songs in the car that they do not know. Some things in the movie that were heavily emphasized and exaggerated were how celebrities act behind the scenes. The girls in the beginning of the movie got into a car crash while being escorted to the Hamptons and got some bruises and then made a fit by calling several people and refusing to go because of the bruises. Or when the girls came to the party even though they were not suppose to show up and almost blow the cover of the agents dressed as the girls. White Chicks does not have a lot of history in the movie due to it being a strong comedy with a pitch of crime in it but it does reflect human nature. Throughout the film, people are generally happy such as the girls singing in the car, people dancing at the all-white party but even with happiness comes downfalls such as when one of the agents breaks promises with his wife due to work issues and has his marriage put on the rocks because he has to work and miss events with his wife. Even though White Chicks may lack in the intelligence value it thrives in the director’s craft value.
The main focus of the movie is when the agents go undercover and get their cosmetics applied and get completely done head to toe in makeup to make them look like caucasian females. Over half of the movie has the actors in this disguise which is heavily, heavily cosmetic including facial molds to get the actors to look like females. However, even though the actors are in a disguise for over half of the movie, that is not the only time cosmetics were applied. In the beginning of the movie the actors had a mask and fake hair attached to the mask to make them look like mexican shop owners. Cosmetics was a big part of the movies focus however a part the movie also lacked was CGI. CGI was absent during this film. As CGI was absent, pyrotechnics was limited. The only pyrotechnics in the film occurred in the all-white party scene where the gunman fired the gun hitting Latrell Spencer who dove in front of Kevin Copeland who was dressed as a female. The editing and cinematography served the same focus throughout the film, focus on the main part of the scene. The camera shots and cuts throughout the movie almost solely focus on the main parts of the scene. Scenes such as the dance showdown keep the camera focused on the main dancer and not the crowd surrounding the dancer in the club. This can also be seen in the auction seen where the focus of the camera is on the stage instead of the
bidding crowd. Like the camera shots, the editing was to the point as well. The editing would cut to parts with backup actors such as the ones in the dance off but only for a few seconds, the cuts would be quick back to the main focus of the scene. The overall reason I chose White Chicks is because it has a combination of my two favorite things in a film, comedy and crime. Throughout the movie there is countless events of comedic things, even multiple in one scene. Also the movie carries suspense because it keeps you guessing when the crime will occur and when it will be a spoof. While comedy is definitely the strength of this movie, the movie lacks history and CGI. History and CGI are not a part of this film and for me that is a bummer because history is one of my favorite topics. Other weaknesses of the film include star power. The only notable star in the movie for me is Terry Crews the other actors in the movie I have never even seen before. To wrap this up, would I recommend this movie to you? Only if you have a large range of humor and don’t get annoyed easy.

There are types of main techniques such as zooming, craning, tracking and lighting. Zooming is one on going motion, the camera moves from an area to a close up shot. Tracking is when you move the camera towards or away from the film and it is designed to make the actor feel like they are part of the scene or is removed from the scene. And Craning is when the camera angel is place on a crane to make better interest to the location of the film. Last but not least is Lighting. Lighting is when the light changes throughout the film and draws attention to the objects and also lighting can be used to create their facial expression when it’s light or dark. The characters in the film wear a costume to represent the movie and to show the character personality of what they doing. Also in this scene you can see many other many cinematic techniques in this set. As it appears Dave has more lighting than Gail. That’s because since Dave was white and Gail is black. Black and white people can’t be in a relationship or get
For as long as there have been jokes, there have been people saying that women can’t tell them. For over a century figures in popular culture have publicly peddled this claim of misconception. In 1884 Richard Grant White, one of the most powerful cultural critics of the 19th century, wrote, “a sense of humor is the rarest qualities in a women”, to Jerry Lewis in 1998 stating he “cannot sit and watch a lady diminish her qualities to the lowest common denominator”, and more recently in 2012 Adam Carolla, arguing, “The Reason why you know more funny dudes than funny chicks is that dudes are funnier than chicks” (Moss). If there is anything that can put these men in their place it is the cinematic success of Paul Feig’s 2011 film Bridesmaids. Since its release, the film has been nominated for 24 different awards, won 6, and has generated over $288 million in sales worldwide, making it the highest-grossing-R-rated female comedy of all time (Buckley 5). Bridesmaids, thus, represents how the symbol of women in the space of cinema is being challenged and changed.
Throughout the film, the audience is also exposed to many different comical scenes. Many situations and even dialogue are humorous. For example, one of the three killers sleeps with a Teddy Bear. Additionally, Nobody calls Blake a “stupid fucking white man.” This is funny purely because it is not something that would be expected from his character.
After World War II, “ A wind is rising, a wind of determination by the have-nots of the world to share the benefit of the freedom and prosperity” which had been kept “exclusively from them” (Takaki, p.p. 383), and people of color in United States, especially the black people, who had been degraded and unfairly treated for centuries, had realized that they did as hard as whites did for the winning of the war, so they should receive the same treatments as whites had. Civil rights movement emerged, with thousands of activists who were willing to scarify everything for Black peoples’ civil rights, such as Rosa Parks, who refused to give her seat to a white man in a segregated bus and
People of Filipino decent have a rich culture that emphasizes tradition and family; as well as allows for a political and sociocultural movement for Filipino immigrants in their new countries. Theme one focuses on the concept of culture and how Filipinos present themselves as a race. Although they reside in the United States, it was rare for most informants to identify themselves as Americans. Rather, they viewed their culture as being morally correct and righteous and American culture as deviant or aberrant. Explicitly, the issue with Filipinos in terms of American culture was their concept of family and the U.S. families’ lac k thereof. They argue that in their culture family is a dominant aspect that preaches assistance and care for one another. Additionally, they disagree with the ideology that American families have in terms they raise their children. Filipinos take care of their children and continue to offer them resources and shelter regardless of their age. Conversely, they believe that American parents lack in care for their children and ultimately get the same from them in return. Filipino culture also emphasizes gender roles and restrictions, particularly female gender. Females are expected to take on the role of the
Overarching research on women of color (African American, Native American, Latina/Hispanic, Pacific Islander American, and Asian American) and the impact of racism and sexism as interrelated constructs on their academic aspirations is limited. A few scholarly pieces that explore racism and sexism as intersecting constructs, primarily focus on understanding the relationship between these isms and the mental health of women of color (DeBlaere & Bertsch, 2013; DeBlaere, Brewster, Bertsch, DeCarlo, Kegel, & Presseau, 2013;Martin, Boadi, Fernandes,Watt, & Robinson-Wood, 2013).More specifically, extant literature suggests one of the major consequences women of color experience in relation to racist and sexist events is psychological distress, which can be understood as concerns including depression, low self-esteem, and self-hatred, among others (King, 2003; Hipolito-Delgado, 2010).
This fieldwork aims to sociologically analyze gender roles and expectations within the movie White Chicks. In this film brothers, Marcus and Kevin Copeland, play the role of two black FBI agents looking to get back into good graces with their superior after they accidentally ruined a drug bust. They are assigned to escort two rich white females, Brittney and Tiffany Wilson, to the Hamptons for Labor Day festivities. While traveling they experience a minor car accident, leaving the girls with a single scratch each on their face. Because of their socialite status, the sisters no longer wish to continue their trip in fear of humiliation. The agents fear losing their chance of redemption, so they decide to disguise

The purpose of the film was to show that no matter what skin color you are what only matters is who you are on the inside. The movie fails in this attempt to display a political statement in a comedic manner in the sense that in reality it depicts that people need to be aware that we should be equal regardless of skin color but it makes a mockery out of the fact that we are not equal in a non-hysterical manner. This movie is not a comedy in the sense that the jokes are funny because they truly are not funny especially for those who face these discrimination issues daily. The movie is basically promoting conformity in the idea that we all know that equality is a far stretch and that we are not there yet so let us just deal with it and turn it into a mockery.

The construction of a movie is much more then a good script. A good director takes part in each part of the film to help create a strong and powerful atmosphere. This includes creating scenes that will captivate the audience based on where they are watching. In the case of this film they managed to create a film atmosphere that provided angles that left viewers to use their imagination. For example, in the opening scene we are watching from the eyes of the air traffic unit allowing the film to take captive of the mind and become better connected with the
The Best Business Advice Oprah Winfrey Learned According to the media mogul, Oprah Winfrey, the best advice she ever heard in business was the saying “Run your own race.” Before she got to where she is right now, she faced a lot of challenges and competition during the late 80’s and early 90’s in day time television talk shows. What kept her focused was to just continue to stay in her lane and avoid worrying too much about the rest of what others are doing. She also taught her staff the same principle.
Boaz Yakin used different angles and shots throughout movie so it didn’t seem like a plain movie that has one shot the whole time through. Most of the shots that were filmed were mostly high angles and low angles. There wasn’t really many fast cuts throughout the movie that caught my eye, but the director use what he thought was best for the movie and he made a very good movie with the different angles and cuts and when it got to the more dramatic parts he pulled the camera in closer so the viewers focused on what the main character in that scene was saying so the viewers of the movie go follow the story easily. Special Effects/Makeup- The movie used no special effects or make up at until Gary one of the football players got into an accident and has cuts and scars all over his body.
