Which two metals combined together give the higher voltage when reacting with acid
Introduction
In this investigation we will find out which two metals combined together give the higher voltage when reacting with acid. The metals used will be:
· Aluminium
· Zinc
· Iron
· Tin
· Lead
· Nickel
· Copper
To make a prediction on what metals will be the ones that give the highest voltage when combined together you need to find out if the position in which the metals are at in the reactivity series would make a difference, and if it does, how? You also need to find out how the metals react with acids.
We know that the higher the metal is in the reactivity series, the stronger it will react with an acid.
Theory
Batteries have chemicals inside to store energy. When two different metals that are connected by a wire are placed into an acid, a potential difference (voltage) is produced. This occurs because the metals react with the acid forming Hydrogen acid, a metal salt solution and an electric charge. The charge flows from the most reactive metal to the least reactive metal.
Equipment
The equipment used will be:
· Acids
· Metals
· Wires
· Voltmeters
· Beakers
· Measuring cylinders
· Stop watches
· Sandpaper
Method
Collect all the equipment and place it as it is shown on the diagram above. Choose around 10 pairs of metals and place one pair in the beaker, and connect them both with a wire. Put them in for a few seconds, and voltage will be produced when the two metals react with the acid forming hydrogen, a metal salt solution and an electric charge. This charge will flow from the least reactive metal to the most reactive metal. Measure the voltage with the voltmeter and write it down. Do this for every pair of metal you have chosen, and then find out which ones are the most reactive and which ones are the least. Prediction
I predict that the highest metal in the reactivity series and the lowest metal in the reactivity series from the metals we are using will produce the highest voltage. I think this because voltage is also called potential difference, so this shows that there is more power when the difference between the metals is larger. This means that the voltage in the metal which is lower in the reactivity series must have a higher voltage to the metal that is most reactive to make my prediction correct. I think that the highest the difference = the higher the voltage.
I also predict that changing the acid will change the ending result. I think that the stronger the acid, the higher the voltage.
This is important because, this gives the readers a since of real life examples so that they themselves are able to relate to the content. If the readers are given graphs, maps, and grids, then they are forced to see Owens and Sawhill 's argument through real life examples and demonstrations. They state that, "Study after study reminds us that higher education is one of the best investments we can make, and President Obama has called it " an economic imperative" (Page. 208 Para. 1). Sawhill and Owens are showing emphasis of the ethical approach by stating that President Obama says that it is extremely crucial to the economy that higher education is the best investment we can make, when they used President Obama it really makes a solid connection to the reader because then they are able to relate to this statement because President Obama is an important leader of the country. They also use research accomplish their purpose of their argument in "Should Everyone go to College?", "Research suggests that additional education improves overall wellbeing by affecting things like job satisfaction, health, marriage, parenting, trust, and social interaction. Additionally there are social benefits to education, such as reduced crime rates and higher political participation" (Page. 210 Para. 3). This really makes the readers think about how much
... an education. No longer will there be a shortage of class time, no longer will there be crowded classrooms full of despicable, worthless students bound to be the scum of mankind in the future. This plan will positively influence students in setting higher expectations and eliminating crude behavior at school, as horseplay proves to be for those who don’t consider their education as top-priority. GPA and test score averages will be on the rise as more and more outstanding students strive to make better role models. A 3.0 average is not hard to attain, and if students don’t maintain this GPA, they obviously are not trying and don’t care about their education. Putting those idiots who don’t care to go to school to work in the salt mines will not only improve our economy and bring change for the better in the education system – it will be the start of a better future.
David Leonhardt’s op-ed, “Make Colleges Diverse” (December 13,2016) enlightens the benefits of Michael Bloomberg’s American Talent Initiative, and how it will create diversity in the country’s top colleges. Leonhardt states how he has high hopes for this program, and he also mentions how a teenager, Jeffrey Valdespino Leal, made it to college because of the program. The purpose of Leonhardt’s op-ed is to persuade to the readers Bloomberg’s new idea, in which to add more diversity in colleges and universities, and in order to do that, colleges must admit more low-income students. He presents his opinion in a casual and formal way, that attracts the attention of seniors in high school that come from middle class and low-income families, and also
Murray and Graff certainly feel change needs to be made and they have two different ideas on the specifics of that change, but they stayed true to the fact that being aware of talent and interest in relation to success can be massively beneficial to people undecided on the future of their education. People are likely to be more successful at the things they are good at and interested in, which if you are aware of it, can be supremely beneficial in making college related
because evidence indicates that among other benefits, it is associated with improved access to health care for racial and ethnic minority patients, greater patient choice and satisfaction, and better educational experience for health professions students” (Why Diversity Matters in the Health Professions
In my humble opinion, higher education institutions, change the world for the better, helping people to be encouraged, and more optimistic about life in general. As a person from an uneducated family, an education beyond high school has always been just a dream until now. As a whole, in the United States, higher education is seen as a necessity for most people to be successful, to be gained through university as apposed to self-taught. According to the president of Harvard, Drew Gilpin Faust, "Higher education generates broader economic growth as well as individual success." (Faust, 2010). Providing students with the knowledge to have a successful career, is not the only accomplishment of higher education, it also enables students to see the world with more clarity and understanding. Therefore, creating a more dynamic and open
Sadly, this effect is usually not positive. According to the article “School Sucks: The Problem With Our Education System”, the author points out how although he does love learning, he has always hated school, so much that he even stopped going. The author goes on to explain how education is drilled into students so much that it becomes routine and uninteresting, which is the way that thousands of students across America also feel. The author asks, “Is there a difference between receiving an education and learning? I think there is. I think there is a definite disconnect between what’s going on in classrooms today and what constitutes actual learning” (Awosika, 2015, para. 2). This is a great point made by Awosika, meaning that there is a distinct difference between how a person learns in public school and how they learn when they are in college or after they graduate. The American education system is centered around reading, memorizing, and testing, which is not an effective way to teach young people. In response to this method, most middle and high school students will only learn information to test over it, and then immediately forget about it. This is not the way our students should be taught, especially since each student learns in their own individual way. Another great point made by author Danielle Ronquillo is that college is overemphasized and sometimes pushed too
Improving healthcare in underserved communities is extremely important, because many people within these communities do not receive the quality of healthcare that they deserve. Therefore, there needs to be more initiatives to improve these conditions. I believe that this starts with mending the broken pipeline between minorities and their pathway to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine degree. It is paramount to have more minorities in the healthcare profession, because this will contribute to an increased quality of care among the underserved populations. Thus, I am a strong believer in enhancing diversity in healthcare.

Among my numerous ambitions, one in particular rises above the rest and eclipses the others: I want to make a positive impact on the world. This is the goal that ultimately led to my interest in political science, as I feel it would put me in the best position to make my community a better place .Upon researching the Political Science major at Northwestern, I found an exceptional program suited to the difference makers of the world.
Does the types of extra curricular a student is involved in matter to their level of satisfaction?
The mere fact that one is a North American college student is an advantage because they are receiving a college education in one of the most powerful countries in the world. College students live in an intelligent community which strives for higher knowledge. Academically, students learn about injustices and ways of helping fix them. This knowledge, for some, mandates action. The most compelling courses contain material that is applicable to daily life. College students often learn about a topic in class and continue their education of the topic outside of class. Students become impassioned by class material, which adds to their commitments to social movements. College campuses are rich in resources. They provide libraries, professors who have studied topic ...
Kids can attend school more often by not being tired everyday when going to school.
Extracurricular activities have proven to be advantageous toward young athletes in the educational system. Research has verified that children who participate in extracurricular activities are less likely to drop out of school. Children who are at risk of failing have also been proven to benefit from extracurricular activities. One study done in 1997 examined the correlation connecting extracurricular activities and early dropout rates. Another study carried out in 2003 found that participation in one of the five areas of extracurricular activities had drastically lower dropout rates than those who did not participate in any activities at all. Athletes were the only one of the five categories that had noticeably lower dropout rates than students who did not participate. While they all had low dropout rates, athletics seemed most successful. In agreement, a study done in 2011 also found that extracurricular activities have an effect on dropout rates. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, the dropout rate for 16 to 24 year olds declined from 12 percent in 1990 to 7 percent in 2011.
I do not agree that these Ivy League schools are the only schools that are able to begin and make the changes in higher education. As in many aspects of higher education changes begin on the bottom up. More grassroots programs and projects have enacted change than Presidents or Chancellors. The moral role of higher education and its leaders to provide their students an education that shapes character can be affected by their misguided ideas of merit. If higher education institutions do not begin to realize the importance of character versus merit, society as a whole, will continue to place the individual over the collective good and social injustices and inequality will continue to be prominent
