What´s Behavioral Psychology?

1163 Words3 Pages

As we all know behaviorism is also known as behavioral psychology. This is based on the idea that behaviors are acquired using conditioning. This occurs when a person interacts with his or her environment. Behavior can be studied in a systematic manner only considering the observable and not including the internal thoughts of the person. Behaviors are influenced by external factors from the conditioning of parents to situations in the environment. Behaviorism is concerned primarily with the observable and measurable aspects of human behavior. The behavioral approach is based on the concept of explaining behavior through observation, and the belief that our environment is what causes us to behave differently or suffer illnesses. Therefore when behaviors become unacceptable, they can be unlearned. Behaviorism views development as a continuous process in which children play a relatively passive role. It is also a general approach that is used in a variety of settings including both clinical and educational.
Our first interviewee, Ms. Maryan Duritan, is a graduate of AB Multimedia Arts at the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde. She now works as an animator and illustrator at WikiHow, and as a part-time art teacher at BeMe -- a company that holds art workshops for toddlers and kids.

When we asked her about any problems she has encountered with her co-workers so far, she mentioned that she has not experienced any conflict or argument between her co-workers and her boss, thus, we asked her that if ever she did have any conflict with them, how would she deal with it? She told us that she would just calmly answer her co-worker or boss, and if push comes to shove, she would ask why the person is acting that way.

Of course, with that principle, almost all workers would strive to meet quotas, expectations, etc. This kind of principle helps motivate workers, not just because they can get something, but because this something can help them;first, financially, second, with connections to their families and finally to themselves. But this kind of system has a downfall. It can create fear to the workers because they will think that if they fail to do their jobs something might be removed from them or their jobs and workloads might be added. All the worker’s reaction would vary depending on how they take the severity or lightness of the situation. Workers are forced to do tasks because they need to.
