What My Catholic Education means to Me I remember attending St. Mary’s open house when I was in fifth grade and instantly knew that it was something special. Unlike most people, I have the unique perspective of going to both a public school and a Catholic school. St. Mary is very different from my old school. Looking back at my time here, I realize that St.Mary is a much better fit for me. It is a better fit socially, academically, and spiritually. St. Mary is a better fit for me socially. At my old school many of my fellow classmates did not treat people with respect. Not many students seemed to truly care about the well being of their peers. Whereas at St. Mary, it feels like more of a community. We all look out for each other and try to help out one another. At St. Mary we have the Peacekeeper awards. These awards are given to one student from each homeroom every month. The award is …show more content…
Mary I have grown academically. Students come to school and learn so much. We learn skills and lessons that prepare us not only for high school or college but for the rest of our lives. We learn all these things from our teachers. Our teachers care about each one of us and want us to do well. They work very hard so that we can have the education we do. They also strive to be good role models for their students. They set a good example and teach us good values. We are taught how to treat people with love and respect. What's so amazing is that not only are we taught these values but you can see the students acting on these values everyday. For example, when we went to the Camp Duncan retreat we participated in some activities that taught us some about what it means to be Christian and how we should build each other up instead of tearing people down. After these activities you could see everyone being really nice to eachother, people talking to people they usually don’t, and just using what we had learned that day. It’s so amazing to see all the ways God works in our
I have applied to Saint Ignatius College Prep because I think that it is the right school for me. Saint Ignatius is a place where I feel that I can be pushed to my limits to learn as much as I can as well as meet lots of new people. I love the esthetic of the school and how kind everyone is to each other. I believe that Saint Ignatius is the place for me because everyone is open to new ideas and others' opinions. Saint Ignatius is a place where I can excel in both learning and extra-curricular related activities. Over the summer, I took a classical mythology class at Saint Ignatius and I learned so much from Dr. Wood (the teacher). Throughout my time at Saint Ignatius over the summer, I learned so much about the school and discovered many more
...hool and work and life in general. I did not strive to do my best in high school and especially my dual enrollment classes. I was not ever thinking about my future and started not coming to classes. Once I accepted God in my life Junior Summer, all that changed. I realized I was on a negative path and God helped me turn my life around. Senior year is going wonderful so far, my grades are the best they have ever been and I am busy as ever with work, school, church, and volunteer work. I love it this way, I believe staying busy requires me to stay on task and get a lot done, that is the lifestyle I have to take to college. Although that bad patch in high school lowered my grades and performance, making it more difficult to get into college, I am thankful it happened so I could learn from it before heading off to a new chapter in my life, hopefully at Auburn University!
My Catholic education means a lot to me. If your beliefs are included in everyday life and tasks, your faith in God grows stronger. You will practice your beliefs to help you get through moments in your difficult emotions, thoughts, and problems in life to get a better solution and answer. When God is in your heart, anything can be achieved. A Catholic education helps you understand how God will help you in times of need and that He will always be there. It helped start new beginning in our faith every time I made a mistake because I know God will always forgive me. It has helped me in countless ways. My Catholic education is a path to God, freedom, and nourishment for my soul.
In my very first hour at Mary Queen of Peace, I felt instantly welcome. In fact, by that time, I had already made a friend that is still one of my best friends to this day. I had some pretty bad anxiety when I was younger, and making friends and feeling so welcome and relaxed at school helped me so much in the following years at MQP. This made me feel really comfortable, because I was and still am a very shy person. I know that everybody being so nice and inclusive all through my elementary and middle school years has had a lot to do with being in a Catholic school environment. I also think that a huge part of why I loved coming to school is because of my teachers. I have no idea where I would be without the amazing teachers that have taught me at Mary Queen of Peace. Every teacher I have ever had has given me so much knowledge that I use in my daily life, or that I know I will use later in life.
From early childhood up to adulthood, many people attend school. We spend most of our time in class being lectured and working on different subjects. The point of this is for us to obtain knowledge by learning. Learning, described as a 'biological process' by Robert Leamnson is what a person who pays attention in class will do for much of their life. Becoming a junior in highschool this year, I am familiar with my strengths and weaknesses as a student. Experiencing school each year makes me more aware of the type of student I am. I can reflect that I am a student who willingly wants to learn and do good in school, although I am not perfect I do try my best and believe that education is key to a successful future.
I had never attended a Catholic school. I would go to mass on Sundays and school on weekdays and that worked for me. For my choice of high school, I could continue to attend my private school or attend Arizona’s only Jesuit school, Brophy College Preparatory. I made my decision to attend Brophy because of its reputation and my private school’s high school program was just too new.
Though I struggle to put the amount of growth I’ve experienced into words, I have undoubtedly taken huge leaps in my faith upon being at MCC. My first semester here, I had wide eyes. I was frantically searching to grasp onto this vision I had of new friends, a degree, new ministries, discovering who I truly am, digging into deeper into a relationship with the Lord and ultimately embarking on what would become my future. I learned a few lessons the hard way, but I’m convinced we grow the most through the tougher times of life. I’ve grown to narrow my focus on Jesus, and to see my situation through a perspective of the one who is far greater and bigger than my situation. I no longer
I wouldn’t be able to be the student I am without the drive and motivation they instilled in me. I wouldn’t volunteer like I do if they didn’t teach me that you can’t just stand by and let injustice happen. I fight for the people who need fighting for because they taught me to stand up for others.
As a student, positive thinking has made things so much easier in dealing with the stresses in the student life. In his book, The integration of Faith and Learning, Robert Harris says, “Successful integration is a powerful way to strengthen your faith and bring you to a greater love of learning. Once you understand how knowledge and learning and faith really work, you begin to discern how the world really works” (Harris, 2004). Harris says this, and I have come to agree with this position the more I learned about the Bible, having faith and changing how I think. Stresses like exams, papers, presentations were something that was dread to me. But now when I incorporate the biblical principles that I’ve learned along with positive thinking makes
The following essay will evaluate the importance of the journey that takes place from Systematic to Practical theology; this view will be explored through Ronelle Sonnenberg’s research done regarding ‘being together’ in a youth setting. This essay will first build on the basis of Practical Theology; furthermore addressing the importance of the community aspect within a youth setting; this will lead to the process that takes place between a Systematic stance, leading to a Practical theological stance.
I would say being an accepted and attending Mount St Joseph was a blessing. I actually did not find out about Mount St Joseph until my senior year. I was looking to attend another college, but I knew the Mount was the place for me once I had my first campus visit. I felt like I was at home and that I will be able to accomplish my goals and plans that I set for my career. The Mount was the best decision for me and it really came out of the
Having the opportunity to go to mass every week as a whole school is a blessing that I fully didn’t recognize until eighth grade. I got to experience God with my classmates and friends. One of my favorite parts about all school masses was getting to participate by doing a reading or petition. During my time at Mary Queen, there were many opportunities to become closer to God. Through advent programs, masses, and prayer circles I got to grow with God in my faith. The religion classes at MQP are very interesting and where I got to learn about my faith all the way from kindergarten. Overall, the faith at Mary Queen of Peace is very strong and is a great part of my school
Coming to Holy Cross was one of the best decisions my family and I have made. One reason I decided to come to Holy Cross was because my classmates picked on me through 6th grade and all 7th grade. Known for its family atmosphere, my parents and I knew Holy Cross was the right fit for me. Finding a school with a close student body was the most important factor when I was picking the right high school because of my experience in middle school. I definitely agree that Holy Cross’ student body and staff are both welcoming. My favorite part about coming to Holy Cross is that I enjoy coming to school every day to be with my new friends.
Sacraments are observed in order to make God’s love visible. The sacraments are common experiences of worship in the Christian experience. In the same way that our calendars point to who we are as a people, the sacraments that we have in place also point to who we are as a people. If someone were to observe one of our sacraments, it would be easy to distinguish us from other religions. Therefore sacraments are another way of identifying worshippers of Jesus Christ.
“The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education” (Martin Luther King). My education developed my intelligence, attitude, and character. I am thankful to all the people who contributed to helping get to where I am today. I have many teachers, tutors, and role models that have influenced and assisted me in my scholarly journey. I owe it to them to become successful and to use there examples as educators for myself.
