Julius Caesar Exposition Paper Chris Hadfeild once said, “Ultimately, leadership is not about glorious crowning acts. It's about keeping your team focused on a goal and motivated to do their best to achieve it, especially when the stakes are high and the consequences really matter. It is about laying the groundwork for others' success, and then standing back and letting them shine.” This quote is relevant to my topic because the traits and qualities of a leader are the key to being a good leader. Leaders come in all different ways, and they all have the same goals; to lead. First, you will be informed about what qualities make a leader a good one. Second, you will learn about what it takes to become a good leader. Lastly, you will be able to understand what goes through the mind on a good leader. …show more content…
A leader is a person that not only tells others what to do, but he shows you how to do it. Leaders never let anyone down. They always do whatever they are doing to the best of their ability. Leaders never put anyone down, but they are always bringing people up with them and helping them out. That is not all that leaders do, leaders have confidence in every person; no matter what. Second, you will learn about what it takes to become a good leader. Leaders do not just simultaneously pop up! They were once like the rest of us, not so good at leading. A good leader learns from their mistakes and tries their hardest to correct them. To become a leader you can not be selfish at all. Leaders must be able to cooperate and communicate with multiple types of people, and figure out the best way to lead that person to become a better person. Leaders are the people that when they fall down they get back up show no mercy and try again. To become a leader you must train your mind to lead
In the political world of Rome, Caesar was a veritable giant, yet not only did he have power, but an artful intelligence. No matter what his position, he exhibited signs of true leadership. He was patient, knowing that he would one day be the ruler of Rome. He was ruthless...
Many definitions exist on what leadership is. Despite the many differences in definitions, they all describe the leader as someone who influences others. Leaders transform individuals around them allowing them to work to their full potential. In order for a leader to be successful they must be knowledgeable, self- confident, and effective communicators. These characteristics will create a positive workplace environment that results in an increase in productivity. Leadership is not defined by titles or salary. Leaders must acquire their skills and continue to improve on them through learning. Good leaders provide a vision and help motivate others to make that vision happen. The leader must be effective and successful in creating a strong institution.
Julius Caesar has many fine examples of arrogance in leadership. We see Caesar's pretensions as quite laughable. "But I am constant as the northern star, of whose true-fix'd and resting quality there is no fellow in the firmament", and "the things that threaten'd me ne'er look'd but on my back: when they shall see the face of Caesar, they are vanished" demonstrate his pride. Shakespeare suggests that although being 'sure of yourself' is a necessary characteristic for a good leader (as it enables decisive action and 'courage'); it should also be tempered with humility.
In Shakespeare's play Julius Caesar, the main character Caesar was known as the poor young leader of Rome but yet even a good leader as well. Caesar was praised by the most people in Rome. Everyone has their own opinions on what kind of leader he was. ¨Danger knows, full well that Caesar is more dangerous than he: we are two lions littered in one day, and I the elder and more terrible.¨ (2.2.45) Although Caesar thought he was the a good leader of Rome. He used the problems of the period to create a strong army that soon fell down quickly. Caesar tried to cover up his bad qualities. ¨But I am, constant as the northern star, of whose true-fixed and resting quality there is no fellow in the firmament.¨ (3.1.58) After all Caesar got killed by other main characters in Julius Caesar, Cassius stabbing him first, for his arrogant and being a poor leader.
What is a leader? A leader is someone who takes command and leads an organization or group to success. Anyone can be a leader but in order to become a great leader you have to have to possess certain characteristics. I will be using Odysseus from the Odyssey isas an example of a leader who has suitable characteristics. You also have to know what harmful characteristics a leader may possess to determine if they are good leaders or not.
According to Dictionary.com, a leader is a person who guides or directs a group, but I believe there is so much more meaning to that. It takes key qualities to be a true leader. A leader should be self-motivated, encouraging, ambitious and determined; they should carry as sense of critical thinking and optimism in all that they do. Most imprtantly, Leaders are strategic thinkers; they are constantly thinking about how their ideas, thoughts and actions can affect the world. People who are leaders are visionary people because they look for the "big picture". Before this class, I would have said that there are plenty of synonyms for a leader thinking that words like manager, director, or ruler would suffice. I have learned now that those words don't even come close to the definition of a leader. A leader does things with purpose and has a passion for what they do and who they serve. A manager or director would just want to get the job done without looking at the beauty of it.
The assassination of Julius Caesar was just because Caesar was a vengeful tyrant that became much too powerful after defeating some of Rome’s greatest adversaries; however, some believed that Caesar was a forceful leader who took necessary actions for a man in his position. Caesar was often seen as vengeful and spent a greater part of his dictatorship defeating his enemies and expanding his own power. In fact, Caesar’s tyrannical dictatorship even extended to his own peers. After defeating a great deal of his most prominent enemies, most of which happened to be Roman senators and generals, Caesar declared himself ruler for life. This declaration and the events that ensued left 60 Roman senators and politicians no other option than to remove Caesar from his throne. However, some saw Caesar as a just ruler despite his harshness, and say his actions were appropriate for a man of his time and social ranking.
Leadership is all about having the right amount of heart and determination to help make a difference in someone’s life. It takes certain qualities to be considered a good leader. A leader should want to help inspire others to make a change and to be the best that they can be. A true leader does not need to feel powerful, instead they empower those around them. Throughout my life I have come across various leaders who have made an impact on my life. It takes a very special person to inspire and touch people’s lives. Leadership is so much deeper than having power and bossing people around.
Therefore, it is seen that Caesar is overconfident and egoistic, which would negatively affect the people of Rome if he were to be their leader, thus proving that Brutus would be a more worthy leader of Rome as he is neither arrogant nor overconfident.
Charisma Without charisma, a person cannot be an efficient leader. There are many reasons why this statement is true in the real world and in the play Julius Caesar. Most of the leaders in our world do not just sit there and expect the popularity and shine to come to them. These leaders perfect their attitude and charm to inspire others to follow them. Julius Caesar started with nothing and grew to become a huge leader of Rome.
A leader is described as a person who guides others and has authority and influence over others. They work to influence others into meeting certain goals. There is no right or wrong definition of a leader and there is no recipe that ensures effective leadership. Successful leaders have a good balance of vision, influence, and power. Leaders gain their authority from their ability to influence others to get the work done; because of this, anyone has the potential to be a leader. (Finkelman. 2012, p15)
Leadership is never handed out to any customary person for showing up, or doing what is asked by their boss. Ambitious and charismatic people are usually over achievers in the today's society. Many characters in The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, written by William Shakespeare. The political and social leaders of Rome show a tremendous amount of charisma in many of their main speeches; persuading and moving people onto their side. Many leaders in the nation today have charisma as well; even though some may use it in a negative way many still have it.
To perform well as a leader, the leader must identify individual strengths, weaknesses, and potential; acquire knowledge of leadership, power, influence, and authority to get the right things done at the right time.
To be a leader you need to be able to inspire others, get people motivated, and set an example to other people. A leader needs to do all of these because if one of these aspects fails people don’t look at the leader...
Throughout my life I have encountered the chance to experience position of being a leader. Being part of groups in university for class presentations, being the organizing secretary of my campus fellowship, being a youth leader in my church and the church admin, also being part of a family. Leaders are charismatic, inspirational and trust worthy. I have gained some important qualities of being a good leader through these experiences. Most of the valuable leadership’s characteristics that I obtained and strengthened are: learn to become a better leader every day, how to be a team player, to be a better listener, to be an effective communicator, to have more patience, not afraid of constructive criticism, to be outspoken, and to be a problem solver. Even though I have gained a lot, I still have more things to learn to become a better leader such as being more assertive, being more disciplined, becoming a better public speaker, and learn how to be realistic and not too optimistic. You are a leader if someone else choses to follow you.
