What Is Wrong with Me?
Life is a complicated journey, and there will be times when people feel lost. When loneliness, anxiety, jealousy, or sadness occur, some people may have negative feelings about themselves. Some people may ask themselves, 'What is wrong with me? ' as they try to cope with their own difficulties in life. However, what they may not know is that these feelings of inadequacy are normal, and can be easily managed when they are recognized and regulated.

Emotional intelligence is an intelligence that has to do with understanding and discerning emotional information. Emotions communicate basic feeling from one individual to another, and they signal messages such as "let 's work together" or "I am feeling down." What low scores on tests of emotional intelligence tell us is that some people cannot pick up and understand, or appreciate the more subtle versions of those messages. Emotional Intelligence, also known as ‘EI’, is defined as the ability to recognize, authoritize and evaluate emotions. The ability to control and express our own emotions is very important but so is our ability to understand, interpret and respond to the emotions of others. To be emotionally intelligent one must be able to perceive emotions, reason with emotions, understand emotions and manage emotions.

According to Skholer, “Researchers define emotional intelligence (EI) as the ability to recognize/monitor one’s own and other people’s emotions, to differentiate between different feelings, and to use emotional information to guide thinking, behavior, and performance.” (Skholer & Tziner, 2017).
Emotional Intelligence allows one to use their intelligence, empathy, and emotions to improve and heighten your gifts. Emotional Intelligence affects our personal performance in many ways. While it is true that we must have intelligence to get the job, we must be able to perceive, use, understand, and manage our emotions in order to perform to the best of our abilities. In addition, to controlling and using our emotions, we must also be able to understand and influence the emotions of others around us. As the information presented in this class has shown us our emotions including our moods play a vital role in the amount of effort we give and the work we do. I can attest to this myself, just this week;
No one could ever comprehend the hatred I had for reading- no one. Reading to me was just like being deathly ill, stuck inside, watching the neighbors play and know you couldn't join. On Monday morning I sat down in my teacher Mrs. Daniels class. I had a strange feeling reading would be an assignment coming up soon. I was dreading what I knew she was going to say next. “Class you will have 4 weeks to complete this book.” As I heard these words come out of her mouth I lowered myself into my seat like a turtle slowly going into its shell. I felt as if I was drowning and no one could save me until my life was over. Not only did I hate reading but I hated it even more when I was forced to. I thought in my head, “Why. Why make us read a dumb book that will do nothing but take away my social life.” Never did I know the book I was about to read would have such an impact
Emotional intelligence is the ability to identify, use, and understand emotions in positive ways to relieve stress, efficiently communicate, empathize with others, overcome challenges, and to defuse conflict. By harnessing emotional intelligence, we can modify our own behavior and our interaction with other people. By utilizing high emotional intelligence, we are able to recognize our won emotional state and the emotional states of others, and engage with others in a way that draws them nearer to you (Cherry, 2015).
