Izenberg, N, Human Diseases and Conditions, New York, 2000

Summary
The first main point in the book is about the definition or description of a disease or condition. Whenever a disease is listed, there is a definition/description that soon follows. An example is,”AIDS is the most severe form of disease caused by HIV (human immunodeficiency virus), a virus that damages the immune system, leaving a person open to many life-threatening infections.” (Izenberg 25). After the disease is stated and a new section about that disease or condition starts, the definition is stated.
The second point is information on symptoms and causes. In the section about the disease or condition, the causes and symptoms of that disease are listed. An example of the section describing what the cause of cavities are is, “Cavities, also known as caries, are areas of decay on the teeth that are caused by bacteria.” (Izenberg 186). The symptoms of the disease/condition will also be listed throughout the section. …show more content…

An example of a section stating how to diagnose and treat a disease is, “The simplest test is a digital rectal exam,” (Izenberg 230) and, “The three main types of treatment for colorectal cancer are surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy.” (Izenberg 231). These examples describe how to diagnose and treat the disease.
